Manhunter (1986)

Factual error: When Reba is in the darkroom with Dollarhyde she mentions that he speaks very well but avoids fricatives and sibilants. In linguistics sibilants are a form of fricative and Reba would have known that since she'd obviously studied linguistics. The writers likely meant that he just avoids sibilants (to avoid sounding homosexual) but wanted it to sound more technical. Sibilants in English are the 's' in "see", 'sh' in "shout", 'z' in "zoo", and the 's' in "pleasure". Fricatives would include sibilants as well as the 'f' in "fine", 'v' in "vine", 'th' in "that", and 'th' in "thing" (01:17:30)

Continuity mistake: In the scene just after arriving at her grandparent's home, Lena is drawing and you see a good portion of the picture shaded in and yet the next shot of the drawing is only the penciled outline of the shaded areas. (00:52:40)

Knowing (2009)

Revealing mistake: In the scene where John first discovers the patterns of numbers, he writes all of the numbers on his whiteboard. He circles the numbers he finds online with a colored marker. When he circles the number 2708 with the blue marker, he passes over the 8 with the marker, but the original black 8 and part of the 0 appears on top of the blue, showing that it was done using some overlay technique. This same effect is shown several times including when the blue and red pens mix but are still behind the black. (00:24:55)

Suggested correction: Black marker is never on the top of the blue, blue marker is simply transparent, so you can see black marker through it.

Revealing mistake: While breaking into the vault Gabe and Ripley use two ratchets to pull the large block that they cut out of the wall. The block moves as they pull the ratchet arm back. The block however moves only at the end of the pull for the second pull which makes no sense. This was an obvious timing error from whatever was really doing the pulling. The ratchet itself would've only pulled the block an inch at best. Additionally, when the block is almost out it shifts unnaturally showing that it was not made out of concrete. (00:56:45)

zephalis

Plot hole: While breaking into the vault, Gabe and Ripley use a reciprocating saw to cut a block from the concrete wall. The block is several feet thick, quite beyond the reach of a saw of the sort. The view after the block is cut also shows no holes where they would have had to drill to get the cut started. (00:56:00)

Just Friends (2005)

Revealing mistake: After the first "day date", Chris gets into the Porsche and spazzes out while Jamie watches. She can't hear him because the windows are up, but as the camera moves into frame and into the car you can tell that the passenger-side window is down, presumably to allow for sound and camera entry.

Continuity mistake: Carrie's skateboard is broken in half after she sneaks off with Flicka to ride it in the city. Later, when she's sitting on the couch depressed about Flicka being gone, the skateboard is in perfect condition. Adding to this is when she gets a new board near the end of the movie. Flicka 2 (2010)

Plot hole: Near the end of the film, Carrie gets a quarter pipe. The problem is that there is no pavement anywhere near the farm which was expressed explicitly earlier in the film. Because of this, she won't be able to use the quarter pipe anyway, especially since it is about 2 ft at the base so they would definitely need to build the rest of the ramp. (01:14:00)

Hardwired (2009)

Audio problem: Drake places the tea kettle on the stove having just finished pouring the water into his cup. The kettle whistle dies down as he places it on the unheated burner. The problem is that the whistling would've stopped soon after lifting the kettle from the hot burner, and certainly wouldn't have gone on while he was pouring. (00:57:10)

Jurassic Park (1993)

Question: Hammond gets Grant and Satler to go to Jurassic Park by saying he will fully fund their dig for 3 years. Since Grant says he isn't going to endorse the park, does he still get the grant money? In other words, was the grant dependent on Grant and Satler visiting the park, or on their endorsement?

zephalis

Chosen answer: Hammond's proposal appears to be that Grant only had to visit the park and render an honest opinion about it, although Hammond is confident Grant will endorse it. It was never actually revealed whether or not Hammond continued funding Grant after his refusal to endorse the park (which was sarcasm). However, since Hammond agreed with him, it seems likely he would probably fund Grant's dig in appreciation for everything Grant did (saving his grandchildren) and also to compensate Grant for nearly getting him killed.

Bad Boys II (2003)

Continuity mistake: Just before smashing through the wall in the Cadillac vs. funeral van chase, the van apparently hits some vegetation before smashing through a fake brick wall. The attached vegetation changes between shots and is completely missing in some. (01:24:15 - 01:27:00)

Bad Boys II (2003)

Deliberate mistake: During the car chase in the Cadillac, the van being chased crashes through a concrete block wall. Even if you can look past the unlikelihood that the van would even be drivable after going through, it is impossible that it would come through without any damage. Surely the windshield would be cracked, the headlights broken, etc. This was obviously not done with a real brick wall and they didn't think to damage the van before running it through the wall. They do show a dent and a messed up grill in a closeup later, but the damage doesn't match the wall scene. (01:02:10)

Transporter 3 (2008)

Plot hole: In the large chase scene, Frank hits the shoulder at 140kph (~85mph) but the car doesn't shake, slide, or act in any way like it should. Later, when he's moving around 220kph (~135mph), he somehow manages to end up on two wheels. To top it all of when he ends up between the semis he appears to be moving just barely faster than them which would mean he had to slow down somewhere. When his wheels make contact with the one semi the car doesn't jump or skip as expected because it's not moving very fast compared to the semi. I know this scene is for effect, but they could at least attempt to make it somewhat based on real physics.

Miss Congeniality (2000)

Plot hole: Just before playing the water glasses, Gracie plays a couple notes, one of which is very high. She drinks some water out of the glass to lower the pitch. The problem is that the pitch goes up when you remove water from the glass, not down. Drinking out of the glass would've made the note sound higher. Some people and websites will make you believe that the pitch is going down due to an increase in the size of the resonant chamber but singing glasses have nothing to do with cavity resonance. Glass singing is caused by the molecules in the glass vibrating in resonance with each other. More water dampens the motion, slowing it down and lowering the pitch. Some of the confusion comes from schools not teaching children that liquids and gasses are both fluids. In the case of water in glasses, the water is not changing the cavity as much as one thinks, just damping it. And finally, if you don't believe me, don't Google it, try it.

Stick It (2006)

Character mistake: At the very beginning, when Haley is in court, the cop says that the property damage from the previous scene looks to be about $14,000. Although we can't expect a cop to know the true cost of the property, the only things damaged were the large window and maybe the metal framework supporting it. The window couldn't be any more than $1000.

Factual error: When Novalee is locked inside Wal-mart during a storm she looks out the front. Water is streaming down the front doors. The problem with this is that the doors of the Wal-mart are very far under an awning and would never see that sort of rain. The awning is shown a minute or so before and is a standard Wal-mart feature. (00:16:45)

Revealing mistake: When the monkey is on the autopsy table and the screen is split between the rat and the monkey, the fingers on the monkey's right hand flex twice. Of course the monkey is an actor and not really dead but he's supposed to be dead in the movie. (01:16:55)

Ransom (1996)

Other mistake: During a chase, Gibson makes a left turn at an intersection causing two girls to suddenly lunge backwards to avoid getting hit. The girl with the long black hair turns to her friend and smiles. This was most likely because she just successfully played a part in a big movie, but I don't think she'd be smiling at that moment. Most of the people in that shot don't react normally but are more explainable given the New York setting.

zephalis

Other mistake: During the scene where the German Soldiers mow down an entire village, there are many shots of people crying and whimpering before the shooting begins. One little girl starts out with a sad face but then gives a big smile after looking to her left. (01:54:45)

Role Models (2008)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Ronnie steals the Jeep, he makes a large oval out of the parking lot and back in. The outside shot is of him going counter clockwise (turning left), although a shot of the steering wheel shows a large right turn. Note that although this could be explained as turning the wheel to straiten out the car, it happens at the wrong time and the steering wheel's in the wrong starting position. (00:27:00)

Metro (1997)

The Pacifier (2005)

Other mistake: When Shane is installing the security cam, he looks to verify the image, but we are shown a standard quality image that you would find in a typical security cam. If he was on a top priority project for the military, the video quality would be way above what we see. It would also most likely not look like an off the shelf video camera (i.e. it would likely be less detectable than what he put up).

Meet By-Product - S2-E17

Deliberate mistake: At the beginning of the episode, when Doug and Carrie are in the shower, you see their silhouettes. The first mistake is that for the silhouettes to show like that they have to be evenly backlit which wouldn't make sense in the shower. The second mistake is a little more subtle; you can see the outline where the actor's bathing suits are (inevitably) slightly larger than the bodies. There is also a slight darkening in the areas where the bathing suits cover skin. (both of these things are much easier to see on Carrie than Doug because of her smoother figure and skin tone).

Banshee (2006)

Revealing mistake: Right after Sage plays chicken with the cops, the cop car is shown peeling out in reverse to follow her down the alley. The dust from the burnout is ejected towards the back of the car. Being a Crown Vic, the car has rear wheel drive but the dust should be moving opposite the car's direction. What this shows is that the car was actually being pulled backwards as it attempted to accelerate forwards. What's more is that even the sound is of a car spinning its tires opposite to being dragged. (00:12:50)

Casino Royale (2006)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where James is giving Vesper CPR, the water is seen churning and bubbling through the skylight, and flowing over the roof but the building was no longer sinking at that point so the water would've settled. Also, everything around the building that sunk is perfectly dry. (02:14:15 - 02:16:30)

zephalis

Visible crew/equipment: When Kumar peels out backwards at the whorehouse, you can see the tow line attached to the undercarriage go slack. It disappears when the camera angle changes. Deliberate mistake: During the final montage, we see Erik and Joyce in bed together, and the next sequence is of Teddy talking to his baby brother. This was to show that they got back together and had another kid. The mistake is that Teddy would've been a year older by that time, and so would've looked a little bigger, although there is also the fact that the actor who played Teddy (Dakota Goyo) was between 7 and 8 for the filming. Counterfeit Reality - S1-E7

Factual error: The Secret Service agent says the bills are counterfeit because you can see the watermark under a uv light, which is completely wrong. The uv reactive strip is not a watermark, it's a plastic strip embedded between the two layers of the bill and fluoresces under uv as a security measure. In older bills, it glows blue as in the film. In newer ones, it glows yellow to orange and is on the right half of the bill. A fake bill would be the one that does not glow. (00:07:20)

Deliberate mistake: In the facial morph, the faces don't come anywhere close. The face was morphed with no feature of either resembling the other. Factual error: The second time Frank speaks with Booth, the line is being traced. When Frank switches over, Okura tells him to keep Booth on the line until they get the ANI (automatic number identification). Assuming the secret service has access to the phone company's internal computer (since you have to have toll-free service or be a customer of an ANI outsourcing company to receive the subscription based info), ANI only says who the phone is registered to and since the call was being tapped they would've had the ANI information before the call was picked up. This still holds true if the ANI is faked by a well built PBX system (as said later). (00:24:10)

Factual error: When Frank talks to Booth the first time on the phone and realizes he's at the phone outside, he runs to find him, only to find the handset swinging and the phone emitting the periodic screech that is heard after 1 minute of leaving a phone off hook. Seeing as how the apartment is three stories max, there's no way that sound would be playing by time he got there even if Booth somehow hung up first. Furthermore, even if it did take that long, the handset wouldn't still be swinging. (00:14:45)

U.S. Marshals (1998)

Audio problem: In the scene when the plane slides down the hill into the water you hear the classic Hollywood sound used for jumbo jet engines dying out by hitting water. Factual error: The nickel from the phone booth is fake. Unless it was a special minted edition. It doesn't look like any nickel I've ever seen from that era. It is also reflectively discolored compared to the proper coin to its left. It actually looks more like an '01 coin. (00:31:20)
