Question: When the sorting hat is speaking, can all children hear it, or only the one who is beneath it? I ask this because when the hat shouts 'Gryffindor!' everyone in the hall seems to hear it.

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: In the book, the only words the hat said out loud for everyone were the house assignments. Everything else was said telepathically with the one wearing the hat. In the movie, since we can see the hat's mouth moving the whole time, we're led to believe that everything is spoken out loud.

Question: When Harry buys his wand at Olivander's store, Olivander says 'well, give it a wave'. How come Harry already knows how to use the wand?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: He doesn't know how to use a wand at all. Ollivander told Harry to give the wand wave to test it, and the wand is reacting a bit uncontrollably because Harry does not know how to use it properly and also because that particular wand is not suitable for him. When Harry tries the wand that he eventually buys, it is reacting favorably because it is choosing Harry to be its master.

Question: In the flying lesson scene, what happened to Neville's broomstick? Was it bewitched? It did remind me of the scene where Harry had trouble with his broomstick.

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: In the books they explain that the brooms for their lessons were old and getting worn, and some of their flying charms weren't working like they use to. Neville was exceptionally nervous about the flying lessons as he had never flown before. The combination of the crappy broom and his nervousness made the broom lose control.

Chosen answer: It's not known for certain, but Hagrid apparently arrived on the flying motorcycle that was seen at the very beginning of the movie. Presumably he parked it somewhere nearby and flew back to Hogwarts on it.

Run Lola Run (1998)

Question: I don't understand the scene in the casino. She screams and the roulette ball hits her number. What happened here?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: In the casino scene, Lola breaks the "rules" several times. She doesn't have enough money for a 100 mark chip, she defies the dress code, and the scream is a manifestation of her willpower overriding the laws of chance and probability itself to make the ball land on the number 20 twice in a row.

Answer: Sewer and drainage pipes from the 19th century until only about 40 years ago were cast iron. It is a thick but fairly brittle metal, especially if it was older and beginning to deteriorate. It is theoretically possible to rupture the pipe with a rock, although probably not as easy as it appeared. Note I said "theoretically."

Answer: Well when Andy strikes the pipe, it sounds like metal.

Chosen answer: In the book the main drain pipes in Shawshank are ceramic, which is why Andy is able to break through. There is nothing in the movie to indicate the pipes are metal and not ceramic.

Cube 2: Hypercube (2002)

Question: Can someone explain me what are the waves in the edge of the rooms? Sometimes it's like something changed but we see still the same room. I also wonder what are the sounds that we hear in some rooms of people talking at a strange way.

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: If by speaking strange you're referring to Max and Julia, then it is because they are in different timed rooms, Julia is in a fast speaking time room whereas Max is in a slow speaking time room, hence the strange speaking.

Question: In the scene where the detective tells Susie's parents 'they found blood, lots of blood', how can they find blood if Susie's body was placed inside a locker?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Because he likely killed her in such a way that caused severe bleeding, and was before he moved the body and hid it in the safe.

Question: I'm not sure if I must ask this in BTTF 1 or 2 but can anyone explain me why the mall is called 'twin pine mall' and 'lone pine mall' in the other movie?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: In BTTF 1, when Marty goes back to 1955, it's revealed that there used to be a farm where the mall was located, and there were two pine trees on the farm, hence the Twin Pines Mall name. But while Marty was escaping the farmer, he runs over and kills one of the trees, thus altering the course of time and leading to the Lone Pine Mall name.

X-Men 3 (2006)

Question: I have three questions regarding the end scene. 1. How come Jean can't crush Wolverine's body? I ask this because we can see her easily kill all people who walk too close to her. 2. Why didn't Wolverine inject Jean with the cure instead of killing her? 3. What would happen if Jean got injected with the cure?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: 1) Apparently the combination of Logan's unbreakable skeleton and healing factor was enough to keep Jean from shredding him - it's possible to see his body getting damaged and repairing itself in a few shots. 2) Because, while he's capable of getting close to her mostly intact, the same isn't really true of anything he might be wearing or holding, so any cure syringe he carried with him would be destroyed. 3) Who knows? Given her extreme power level, the cure might or might not have worked, and, considering the final shot of the movie, which suggests that the cure isn't permanent anyway, her powers would likely return before long.

Question: In the Ministry of Magic when they try to get to Umbridge's locket, how does she knows that it's Harry? Did she use some magic?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Umbridge did not know that it was Harry. During the interrogation scene when they are trying to retrieve the locket, Harry is still disguised as Albert Runcorn by the Polyjuice potion. The only thing that Umbridge noticed was that Harry suddenly produced his wand from his coat sleeve. This made Umbridge suspicious and she asked "Albert" what he was doing. That is when the polyjuice potion started to wear off and Harry was transforming back to himself, but he "stupified" Umbridge before she knew exactly what was happening.

Titanic (1997)

Question: I've seen this movie about 10 times now but I always wondered the next thing. After the Titanic hits the iceberg, they knew the ship would sink. Couldn't they go back to the iceberg and survive there and wait for help? Surely there would be more places, and it would be warmer on the iceberg than in the water?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Trying to turn the Titanic and return to the iceberg would just have put additional strain on the ship's structure, likely hastening its sinking. So the only available option, short of swimming, which is obviously insane, would be to use the ship's lifeboats to ferry passengers over to the iceberg, which, given the lack of capacity, would have taken multiple trips and a considerable amount of time. Once they reached the iceberg, there would be no way to tie the boats securely to the iceberg to allow the passengers to cross over safely; icebergs usually have pretty sheer sides anyway, making boarding impossible without specialist equipment that they didn't have. Even assuming, for the sake of argument, that somehow this could be done, the passengers are now sitting on a large block of ice in the middle of the night, in, for the most part, inadequate clothing. Hypothermia would rapidly set in, leading to death within at most a couple of hours, before any help reached the scene.

Titanic (1997)

Question: In the middle of the film Mr. Andrews tells Rose that "the ship will sink, don't tell anyone to cause any panic and go to a boat, quickly!" After that he says "you remember what I told you?" which Rose replies "yes, I understand." What was this about?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: When this happens, Rose is talking to Mr. Andrews and he is referencing a conversation they had while walking on the deck of Titanic (when Rose wears the blue dress). He said that there weren't enough lifeboats for half the people aboard because the deck would look too cluttered.

Sucker Punch (2011)

Chosen answer: Because what happens inside her mind when she is dancing is more important than the dance itself. Besides which, the whole movie takes place within her mind before the lobotomy, and most times when you dream, you don't see yourself as others see you.

Question: When Wendy takes a picture at the start of the 'Dive' thing, can somebody explain me why the 'v' in lighted off when she looks at her camera? Does this has anything to do with somebody's death?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: When the v flicks off the word letters D I and E are still lite up, DIE. it is a sign from Death that people are about to die.

Answer: Pretty much only superstitious people would think that something is wrong. Oblivious people would have thought the V had flicked at the right moment.

It says "High Die" which signifies that everyone is going to die from being on a roller coaster; something that is high up. Also, I'm pretty sure Wendy would've noticed the "V" flickering while she was taking the picture, or else she wouldn't look so surprised by it; did you not notice that she looked past the picture that every letter was fine?

Deja Vu (2006)

Question: I got a few questions regarding the 'time-equipment'. 1. what exactly was Doug doing with the red laser when he watched Claire? HOW did he do this? 2. When they observing Claire in her home, she thought somebody was watching her. Was it the bad guy standing outside the door, or was it the cops with the time-equipment?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Doug was pointing the laser beam into the past. Since Claire got the feeling that she was being watched when in reality no one was there (besides the scientists watching from the future through the screen), it can be said that the "screen" itself is a gateway to the past, an access way to the wormhole, explaining how Claire saw the red laser beam and why she felt watched.

Deja Vu (2006)

Question: Near the end of the movie, the bad guy went to start his motorcycle but he suddenly went back to the boat, can somebody explain me why he did this?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: He saw the truck Doug drove away from the bait camp in. It was parked on the street from where Doug parked it as he and Claire arrived. This was Orestadt's truck, so he knew somebody was on to him and on the ferry to stop him.

Question: Can someone explain me what's the problem when Doc went to 1885? He's got the time machine with him, so why didn't he just come back?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: The unexpected jump brought on by lightning striking the DeLorean caused the circuits to fry. Since Doc didn't have the equipment to make new ones in 1885, he decided to hide the car and resigned himself to life in 1885.

Captain Defenestrator

Question: I noticed that Harry's scar hurts when he comes close to Professor Quirrell, but why is this not happening when he meets him for the first time in Diagon Alley? Wasn't Voldemort on his head yet?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Voldemort is not on his head in Diagon Alley as explained in the books. He attaches himself to Quirrell when he learns that Quirrell was unsuccessful in getting the Philosopher's Stone from the vault, in attempt to keep an eye on him.

But in the movie when they met in Diagon Alley, Quirrel refused a handshake because it would kill him.

It's never explained in the movie that that is why he doesn't shake hands. In the books, hagrid says that Quirrel hasn't been right since he met a few vampires in the black forest.

Ssiscool

Question: Harry sees a dream of attacking Mr. Weasley as a snake, this was real. Harry sees a dream about Voldemort hurting Sirius, this is not real. Can anyone explain this to me?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Harry was able to tap into Voldemort's mind and see what he was seeing. When Voldemort learns that Harry can do this, he plants a false vision in Harry's mind that Sirius is being tortured so that Harry will be lured into a trap at the Ministry.
