Morbius (2022)

Trivia: A couple times in the film, Morbius can be seen wearing a black coat with a purple lining. These are the colors of the updated outfit he acquired in Morbius #1.

Trivia: SPOILER: Doctor Strange sarcastically asks Reed Richards if the Fantastic 4 had chart-toppers in the 1960s. This is likely a reference to the Fantastic 4's comics debut being in 1961.

Trivia: SPOILER: This is the first MCU film to feature characters from Fantastic 4 and X-Men (Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's association with X-Men in the comics notwithstanding). These properties were previously unavailable to Marvel Studios, as their film rights were held by Fox prior to their acquisition by Disney in 2019.

Trivia: Patrick Stewart revealed in January 2021 that he had conversations with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about reprising his role of Professor Charles Xavier in the MCU. Stewart claims to have declined, reasoning that he felt his appearance in Logan was a fitting end to his time as the character, but it appears that he was either fibbing, or later changed his mind.

Trivia: The version of Doctor Strange seen at the very beginning of the film has been dubbed "Defender Strange." This is because his outfit is taken from the comics when he was a member of the Defenders.

Trivia: SPOILER: The woman who approaches Doctor Strange in the mid-credits scene is Clea, who in the comics is one of Strange's disciples and love interests. She is also Dormammu's niece, in the comics at least.

Trivia: The 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that is featured in nearly every Sam Raimi film can be seen floating in the air when Doctor Strange and Christine first arrive in the universe of the corrupted Doctor Strange.

Trivia: When Professor X first appears onscreen, he is accompanied by the theme from the 90's X-Men animated series. This is the first live action film to adapt this theme. The Fox X-Men films ironically never used it, despite also producing the aforementioned animated series.

Trivia: SPOILER: Prior to his appearance here, John Krasinski was a popular fan pick to portray the MCU version of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. His wife Emily Blunt has also been a popular fan pick to play Reed's wife Susan Storm/Invisible Woman. Blunt has said the role does not interest her, but actors in past MCU projects have been known to mislead about their involvement.

General questions

As of this writing, there are 28 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Is this the record for the most films in a franchise taking place in the same continuity, and if so, at what point did it become the record? I know there are over 30 Godzilla films, but I haven't seen any of them, and I can't easily find a definitive answer on how many of them are in the same continuity.

Phaneron

Answer: According to wikipedia Godzilla is the longest running live-action movie franchise with 36 films since 1954, but not in the same continuity. They rebooted several times. But, there are several Japanese and Chinese movie franchises that have between 40 and 60 movies, one even 123. Many are for kids (power rangers style, not counting anime) and their continuity is doubtful at best. There is also a western series called "The Durango Kid" that had 64 movies and the western series "The Three Mesquiteers" with 51. I'm sure India's Bollywood has a couple as well.

X-Men '97 (2023)

Trivia: Jennifer Hale is taking over the role of Jean Grey from Catherine Disher. Hale previously voiced Jean Grey in Wolverine and the X-Men. She also previously voiced Felicia Hardy/Black Cat and Julia Carpenter/Spider Woman in the 90's Spider-Man and Iron Man animated series, respectively, which take place in the same continuity as this show.

King Richard (2021)

Trivia: Will Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the film. However, his award was overshadowed by an altercation with Chris Rock earlier in the evening, which saw Smith slap Rock in the face after Rock made a joke about Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith (which Will initially laughed at). As a result, Smith was given a 10-year ban from the Oscars ceremony, and also lost consideration for upcoming film roles.

Suggested correction: The Spider-man trilogy aren't technically MCU films although Spiderman has appeared in MCU films and characters from MCU have appeared in this. As Spider-man is still own by Sony...at this point its just character cross-overs and little else. MCU still don't have full ownership of Spider-man yet.

Gavin Jackson

That's incorrect. All 3 films were co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony. Tom Holland's Spider-Man IS part of the MCU because Sony shared the rights to the character and the films are not only set in the MCU, but part of the franchise. It should be noted that Marvel Studios and the MCU are two separate things. The MCU doesn't really own anything because it's the setting, not the company.
