Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: When Aladdin is being held prisoner in the palace dungeon, he is seated on the floor with his hands secured above his head. A very thick heavy metal chain hangs on the wall in an arc directly to the left to his hand irons. The chain is shown bolted twice to the wall Aladdin is against in the first long shot looking down. The next shot showing Aladdin in this position and the chain is much closer to his shackles, now just inches away. After Abu picks the lock on the shackles, the heavy chain vanishes altogether. The shackles also shrink in length throughout the scene from over 2 feet long at the beginning to under a foot as Abu picks the lock.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: The reddish orange canopy belonging to the Melon Merchant's stand that Aladdin and Abu are seated on when Jasmine enters the marketplace changes its structure. When Aladdin is seated upon it, it doesn't look strong enough to hold him, but when you see underneath as Abu is snatching a melon, you can see many wooden cross supports. But the fabric sags noticeably between them, the fabric is smooth across on the top when you see Aladdin seated on it. We see the wooden cross supports in other underneath the canopy shots, then near the end when Jasmine is accosted by the Apple vendor, you can now see under the canopy and it now lacks all structural support and is sagging under Aladdin's weight.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: When Jasmine first enters the marketplace and is noticed by Aladdin. Abu and Aladdin are on a reddish awning belonging to the stand of the Melon Merchant. The stand next door sells apples and has a yellowish canopy. When Jasmine is accused of stealing the apple and the vendor has raised his sword to cut her hand off, she is positioned directly between the right side of the Apple sellers stand and the Melon Stand (melons visible behind Jasmine's head as she is exclaiming NO). Aladdin stops the sword and takes it away from the apple merchant and passes it to Jasmine. They start walking past the neighboring melon stand, then suddenly they are on the far left side of the apple stand.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: When Aladdin is first speaking with Jasmine on the palace balcony dressed as Prince Ali. Genie's lamp is under Prince Ali's silk hat (during the point when Genie is a bee). Aladdin is threatened by Rajah and he removes his hat and holds it by the top center (open part facing down) to shoo away the tiger. The Genie lamp is not on his head or in the silk hat. Shortly thereafter, the Genie as a bee goes back into the lamp under his silk hat and it is plain to see how large the lamp is and that it would be impossible for it not to be seen with the hat off. Then Ali and Jasmine fly off on the "Magic Carpet Ride". After the ride, Jasmine, suspecting Ali is Aladdin, unexpectedly rips the hat off his head to reveal his hair. No lamp again. But when he returns to the palace and Ali is snatched by the guards, the lamp is under his hat when the hat falls off as he is thrown into the ocean.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: After the famous scene in which the Sultan, Jasmine's father, is stacking the toys which includes the "Beast" from Beauty and the Beast. Jafar enters the room and the force of the door shutting startles the Sultan, causing the stack of toys to fall. After the point in their conversation when the Sultan pulls out his magnifying eyepiece to study the law scroll, the table and toys that fell disappear for the rest of the scene. This is very clear when the sultan jumps up to view the Prince Ali parade.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Throughout the "One Jump" scene, the Guards chasing Aladdin have their swords drawn, except when they are moving the sheep out of the way. When Abu snatches a sword from the mouth of the sword swallower one Guard exclaims in fear "Look, He's got a sword!" The Lead Guard exclaims "Idiots, we've all got swords!" Then he draws his sword, followed by the rest of the guards. Their swords were already drawn and above their heads at that point in the chase. Also of note is the dramatic metal against metal sound as the swords are being drawn from the cloth or leather belts at that moment. Other people had determined that the swords were simply kept in their belts not scabbards. What is causing the dramatic metal against metal sound if not a scabbard?

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: The appearance of Aladdin changed dramatically during film production. I was an artist of licensed Disney products at the time. I constantly received updated appearance drawings of Aladdin as he was re-developed. Originally Aladdin was a boy about 12 years old. He was made older after a substantial amount of the film had been done. In the process of re-animating the film to match the now 16 year old Aladdin, some parts were overlooked. Particularly in the "Friend Like Me" segment. Compare the size of Abu to Aladdin. In some spots Abu is almost half the size of Aladdin(long shots). When this happens, look at the childish proportions of Aladdin's body. In the film Abu is normally about 10 percent of Aladdin's size.

Aladdin (1992)

Other mistake: The original Aladdin theatrical release poster shows Aladdin and Jasmine on the flying carpet. In error, the top half of Aladdin is dressed in "Street Rat" attire, (vest and cap), while the bottom half of Aladdin is dressed as "Prince Ali", silk pants and silk shoes. The artist also represented Aladdin with a tiny nose, not the nose used in actual production.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Jasmine and her father are speaking by the fountain about the law preventing a princess from marrying anyone except a prince. As they walk towards the fountain in a dramatic downshot, it is apparent that the water in the fountain has no lily pads floating in it and the water is rapidly moving from the water spilling into it from above. When Jasmine swishes her hand through the water in a closeup shot, the surface now is covered with lily pads and is still.
