Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Sultan has just entered Jasmine's room and announced that he has found her a suitor - "you will wed Jafar". All of the pillars in Jasmine's room are a deep bronze tan color with wide dark red bands, edged by bright gold. We see several of them as Jafar and Sultan enter Jasmine's room. The pattern is very obvious when we first see Prince Ali leaning against a column with this coloration. As Prince Ali storms up to Jafar to declare "he tried to have me killed", the pattern and color of ALL the columns in Jasmine's room have changed to gold with much smaller and lower bands of pink, and now each column has a large hanging lantern. The columns stay with the new pattern and coloration until the end of the scene. The lighting in the scene hadn't changed to account for the new coloration, and even if it had, that couldn't account for the difference in layout, design and lanterns on the columns.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Sultan runs out of the palace to have a talk with Jasmine, by the fountain, regarding Rajah biting off the seat of the suitor's pants. As Sultan exits the building and runs down the stairs, we can see that the two peacocks on the top of the fountain are back to back with one pointing directly to that staircase exiting the palace and the other pointed directly away. Later after night falls, we can see Jasmine in disguise sneaking by the fountain in an overhead long shot. We can see that the peacocks on top of the fountain have made a one quarter turn, so that neither one points at the palace.

Aladdin mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Abu threatens the chasing guards with the sword pulled from the sword swallower's mouth during the "One Jump" chase scene. The Head Palace Guard yells "Idiots, We've all got swords." The Head Palace Guard pulls his sword with his left hand from the belt on his right side. When they chased Aladdin past the firewalker just seconds before, we can see that the Head Palace guard was leading and was wearing his sword on his LEFT side, and should have needed to use his right hand to pull it. Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Sultan runs out of a wing of the palace to confront Jasmine about Rajah biting the Suitor pants. The opening long shot establishes that the bird cage is on the right side of the fountain,( looking towards the palace). Later that night, when Jasmine is sneaking away through the garden, The bird cage is shown in the long panning downshot to be on the other side of the garden, and now a TOWERING structure as well. In the birdcage's place is a gazebo of some sort.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Jafar is being reprimanded in the Throne room by Jasmine and Sultan for having Aladdin beheaded. Jasmine quickly leaves the scene for a door to the left of the scene. This is the same doorway Sultan and Jafar went through to view the Ali Parade and it dead ended at the balcony. However, we must guess it also leads to a stair case as Jasmine and her father appear at the fountain when Jafar and Iago look down off the back balcony moments later. Jasmine and Sultan made it to the fountain in 20 seconds flat. The balcony is at least 150 feet above the fountain estimated by Jafar's observation point. The fountain is at least 200 feet from the Palace in earlier scenes. How did Jasmine and her father make it so fast without jumping.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Prince Ali and Jasmine are taking off on their "Magic Carpet Ride". Just before Prince Ali begins to sing, They swoop over the top of the gates exiting the palace grounds. The massive brackets leading to the hinges on the palace ground gates are on the inside of the door rather than the outside where they belong. As a special note. these are the Brackets and hinges shown during the Prince Ali parade entrance. One of three distinctly different variations shown in the film. Also, the staircases used by Jasmine and Prince Ali the very next day, leading to the reviewing stand above the palace grounds gates, are missing as well.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: While Aladdin is in the stranded in the frozen wasteland, the scene cuts back to the newly evil Palace now sitting on the hilltop. You can see stairs leading up to the throne room doors. When Aladdin returns and flies by this same spot, the stairs are gone. An interesting note here is that both of the mentioned views only show the Palace itself on the mountain top, without the surrounding walls and gardens. When Jafar has become a Genie and is being sucked down back into the palace, (on the mountain top), the shot looking down at the palace shows it to have it's walls and gardens still attached. Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: Prince Ali and Jasmine are on the Chinese Palace rooftop after the "Whole New World" song. A rare "Off Model" character error happens with the Jewel in Aladdin's turban. When they are discussing royalty going out into the public in disguise. The Jewel begins to shrink steadily in size throughout the scene. After Jasmine flicks the feather up on Ali's turban, the jewel is now 25% of it's normal size. Extremely noticeable as Ali leans towards Jasmine. The shot cuts to carpet for a second and when we see Ali and Jasmine again, the jewel is restored to nearly correct size, but then we are treated to a rare "Swimming" animation error. The jewel in Ali's turban very noticeably migrates up at least 2 inches in a second.(as though it were alive and moving), The jewel actually leaves the band on camera. The bottom third of the jewel is supposed to be attached to the gold hat band, with the fabric in the front supported and swagged by it to keep the turban high in the front. So the movement can't be caused by the fabric falling in the back pulling it up. The jewel in Ali's turban is correctly drawn and scaled when they return to the palace in the next scene, so that you may make an easy size and placement comparison.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: The decor changes so much in Aladdin's rooftop hideaway between the time we first see it and the next day when he takes Jasmine to see it, that it is too difficult to list them all. Some examples, The curtain is now much shorter and much more jagged on the bottom. A boarded up window has appeared to the left of the large window.

Continuity mistake: During the " Magic Carpet Ride", the rug swoops down to a pool of water, Both Jasmine and Aladdin look to see their reflections. Another sharp eyed viewer already noticed that Jasmine's flower is on the wrong side, but didn't mention that Aladdin's hair in parted on the wrong side in the reflection as well.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: When the scene first showing Jafar and Jasmine opens, The fact that there is a thin crescent moon in the shape of a reversed letter "C" with points to the left, is established. The "Magic Carpet Ride" happens two nights later. When we see the crescent shape as a reflection in the water, the "C" is now the incorrect shape for the reflection. Even as a reflection in the water, the crescent moon still would have looked like a reversed letter "C" with points to the left.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: When we first see into Jasmine's room from the balcony, we look through a pair of open doors in an expanse of latticework in front of sheer curtains. The doors are flanking an opening of about 5-6 feet, judging by the size of the lattice pattern, compared to Jasmine standing next to it later. After the "Magic Carpet Ride", Jasmine looks back while walking through the sheer curtains to get one last look at Prince Ali. The doors and latticework on each side of the opening on the VHS tape version don't even show, and the opening shown is at least 15-20 feet wide which is definitely an error. Once the widescreen DVD comes out this fall we will find out if the doors and latticework are lacking altogether at that point.

Continuity mistake: After Aladdin and Abu have given their bread to the hungry street urchins, they step towards the street to see the commotion. Aladdin looks up at the Suitor for the Princess and looks at the LEFT side of the Prince. When the street urchin kids run past Aladdin into the Prince's path, Aladdin is on the RIGHT side of the prince, across the street.

Aladdin (1992)

Continuity mistake: There are several balconies used in different scenes: Jasmine's sitting room, Jasmine's bedroom, the Sultan and Jafar's balcony during the parade, the balconies behind the throne, and the Genie's balcony in the end. However, no shot of the palace shows any of these or their flanking columns, though the ones with a view of the parade should be located on the front.

Continuity mistake: When Prince Ali and Jasmine are resting on the Chinese Palace, Aladdin says, "I really am a Prince," and tilts his head and body toward Jasmine. Pause this frame. Aladdin's head is enormous compared to the size of his body. Later, as he and Jasmine cuddle, his build is almost exactly the same as hers, though in other scenes he is much more muscular.

Continuity mistake: When Aladdin is talking to the ladies after his fall through the clotheslines, he has a beige fabric over himself as a disguise. The guard grabs a big handful of the beige fabric with the back of Aladdin's vest underneath. One sixtieth of a second later, the guard has managed to grab Aladdin, get rid of the beige fabric between his hand and the vest, turn Aladdin completely around and have Aladdin held in the air by clutching both halves of his open vest in the front with one fist.
