Continuity mistake: In the first shot of the dead man hanging form the tree, his head appears to be about 12" from the tree limb. After Mattie climbs up to cut him down, his head is several feet from the tree limb.

Continuity mistake: When Mattie crossed the river on horseback, she was submerged to her chin. When she exits the water on her horse, her clothes, gear, boots and hair braids should have dripping wet. They appeared dry. When the ranger pulled her off her horse onto the ground, her wet clothes would have caused the dry dirt to cake on her like mud.
Other mistake: Research in the end credits is misspelled "Reasearch."
Trivia: Josh Brolin cut his hair with a knife in order to accentuate Tom Chaney's unkempt look.
Rooster Cogburn: You go for a man hard enough and fast enough, he don't have time to think about how many's with him; he thinks about himself, and how he might get clear of that wrath that's about to set down on him.
LaBoeuf: You give out very little sugar with your pronouncements. While I sat there watchin' I gave some thought to stealin' a kiss... Though you are very young, and sick... And unattractive to boot. But now I have a mind to give you five or six good licks with my belt.
Mattie Ross: One would be just as unpleasant as the other.
Rooster Cogburn: We'll sleep here and follow in the morning.
Mattie Ross: But we promised to bury the poor soul inside!
Rooster Cogburn: Ground's too hard. Them men wanted a decent burial, they should have got themselves killed in summer.
Question: At the end, who was part of the travelling circus that Mattie didn't like?
Answer: Rooster Cogburn. She considered him a legendary lawman, like Wyatt Earp. She felt bad that he was reduced to being a sideshow attraction in a circus.
Question: After Rooster carries the snake-bitten Mattie back to the cabin and fires shots to alert the people inside, he collapses. What does he say then, was it, "I've grown old?"
Answer: Yes. He groans, "I've grown old."
