Star Trek Beyond

Plot hole: When Kirk and Jay-lah appear on the bike they are already travelling at speed. This is impossible, as they would have had to enter the transporter room at speed, not possible with the Franklin's transporter.

Suggested correction: In the first movie, the transporter was used to rescue Kirk and Sulu in the middle of a long fall...They didn't splatter on the transport pad when they materialized, so it's reasonable to assume the transporter can compensate for relative velocity of the object being transported...And it also would be reasonable that an object can be beamed giving it a relative velocity as well.

Character mistake: When the elder Vulcans inform young Spock of the death of the older Spock, they show him a tablet that has him listed as "Second Officer - USS Enterprise." Spock was First Officer.

Other mistake: When the saucer of the Enterprise finally crashes, all sorts of dust comes into the bridge through the big window at the front. Two mistakes here: 1. The very next shot shows that the dust cloud never actually reaches up to the bridge (which is in the middle of the saucer) and 2. Later in the movie, Kirk and Chekov escape the bridge, but to do so, they need to shoot the window out. So the dust couldn't have got in even if it had reached the bridge. Which it didn't.

Trivia: The song ("Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys) used by Kirk and his officers to disrupt an alien attack on a Federation starbase is the same song that Kirk played in Star Trek when he stole his uncle's Corvette as a child, hence him saying "Good choice."

Question: When Chekov and Kirk step into their escape pods while on the Enterprise there are wearing their yellow uniforms, but when arriving on the planet they step out of the escape pods and are now wearing a completely different outfit. All of the other crew that used escape pods have not changed outfits. Where did they get the new clothes from?

krissrush

Chosen answer: The outfits were in the escape pods they escaped in. The other crew members didn't change outfits because they were all captured and were unable to. Chekov and Kirk were not captured and were also the only crew on board who successfully escaped in the designated escape pods, so logically they would be the only people wearing different outfits.

Question: If the characters are younger versions of the original crew, why does the picture young Mr. Spock views when he is told that ambassador Spock has died include all of the original crew members? Who are they supposed to be?

Chosen answer: Those are the personal effects of the old/original Spock. He lived a full life with the original Enterprise crew, as documented in the TV shows and movies, then came back in time to the new/altered timeline.

Question: Why does Spock use his left hand for the "live long and prosper" greeting to the older Vulcans?

Docuniversal

Chosen answer: Presumably, it must have been much easier for him to use the left hand to do the Vulcan salute over his right hand. Though most people in Star Trek do the Vulcan salute with their right hand, there is no rule saying which hand someone has to use in order to do the Vulcan salute with.
