Continuity mistake: When Pee Wee gathers everyone together in his basement to discuss his stolen bike, there's a shot of his dog Speck sitting in front of a person wearing horrible plastic pink or orange boots. It's Pee Wee's friend, Dotty. In the next shot, Dotty comes down the stairs...
Continuity mistake: In the pet store fire scene, you see an aquarium full of fish. At one point Pee Wee stops to rescue them by scooping them into a plastic bag filled with water. While he's doing this, the aquarium is nearly empty. In the last scene of the sequence (as he's running out of the store with the snakes), the aquarium is again chock-full of fish.
Revealing mistake: After Pee-Wee tears through a Godzilla production in the Warner Bros. studios with his bike, he exits the stage, ending up on an alley where he turns left to evade the props and security guards on his tail - one of which has a motorbike. On the pavement beneath him is a curved skid mark from a previous take, not unlike the one left behind by the motorbike seconds later.
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee finds the Alamo, he is shown holding a San Antonio travel brochure. Notice how his right hand grips the bottom near a crease and his left hand holds the left side. In the next shot he lowers the brochure and starts to chuckle out loud, but now his right hand is positioned on the right side instead.
Continuity mistake: As he leaves his house, PeeWee manually turns on his 'sprinklers' (the Water Wiggle toy) and warns his neighbour he is about to start watering the lawn. He then goes to the rear of the property to retrieve his bike. When he returns to the front yard (just a minute or so later) the sprinklers are no longer running.
Factual error: Towards the end when Pee Wee is being chased through the sound stage, he comes out through the open doors and the red light is flashing that indicates that filming is going on. But if the light were on, the doors would not be open. They also take a while to open, so it's not like they could have just swung open right before Pee Wee got there.
Visible crew/equipment: When Pee-Wee is riding the bull, the announcer finishes saying "He's going for a new world record", and at the bottom, middle/left you can see that Pee-Wee is not riding an actual bull. If you have a quick eye, you can see he's riding a mechanical bull like the one from the movie Urban Cowboy.
Continuity mistake: After Pee-Wee loses the Warner Bros. security crew on his tail, he sees a burning pet shop and decides to rescue the animals inside. Take a look at the early '80s red and black Chevy Suburban parked by the entrance. Whenever Pee-Wee runs outside, the amount of sunlight cast on the vehicle changes (sometimes lots of light, very little light or none at all) as though the scene were filmed at different parts of the day, then pieced together.
Continuity mistake: Early in the Warner Bros. studio chase sequence we see a team of security guards in pursuit of Pee-wee. Somehow the guard in front switches from using a golf cart to a bicycle, all within a few brief cuts. This is the same guard who pulled the right handle from Pee-wee's bike moments ago.
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is on the roadside trying to hitch a ride to Texas, the sun casts a shadow behind him which is mostly parallel to the road. But in the subsequent shots of oncoming cars, the sun is casting a long shadow on each one's passenger side - obviously implying a different time of day.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Andy chases Pee-wee down with a dinosaur bone, we can see Simone in the background flailing her arms and screaming Andy's name. At first she's walking towards a nearby staircase on the dinosaur's left side, but between cuts she quickly repositions and is now standing in front of the dinosaur's large foot instead.
Continuity mistake: When Pee Wee walks up to the bums at the drive in, the soda falls over in the holder in his right arm. When he steps in to give them their snow cones, it's instantly standing again only to see it fallen over again when he watches the fight scene with the ninjas on screen.
Revealing mistake: Throughout the studio scene where Pee Wee is shot from the front being chased by security, the fact that his bike is on a rig can be seen by how rigid the bike is when he pedals it and it doesn't move side to side like it does when he's riding it freely in all the other shots.
Continuity mistake: After throwing the candy to the bikers, Pee Wee is holding a box of Milk Duds and a candy bar. After he watches himself in the movie, the candy bar disappears then reappears behind the Milk Duds between shots. Then in the next shot of him skipping towards Dottie - all of the candy disappears completely.
Continuity mistake: When Pee Wee is dressed as a nun on the sound stage, he looks impatiently at the bike - we see only a shadow from the bike on the left side. Then from the front shot, there is now the shadows of the actors right all behind the bike which weren't there in the prior shot.
Revealing mistake: The entire snack bar cartoon sequence shot at the drive-in theater during the world premiere of "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" is actually a montage of different shots patched together, and it almost looks completely seamless until you focus in on the car farthest right. Notice how the passengers change positions every time the shot changes on the drive-in screen.
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is wandering through the Warner Bros. lot in search of Kevin Morton, he asks a feminine-toned crew member for help. The member grabs his helmet with the left hand, saying "Gee I don't know." But in the next shot he reaches for the helmet all over again.
Continuity mistake: At the police station when Sgt. Hunter tells Pee-Wee that hundreds of bikes are stolen every month and very few are recovered, her hands change positions between shots. Initially she's holding them together while talking to Pee-Wee, but then her right hand is waving a blue pen around.
Revealing mistake: In the scene where Pee-Wee is face to face with Professor Tanaka asking for Francis' whereabouts, the background behind Pee-Wee turns into an obvious painting on a set between shots. Notice how all sunlight and wind vanishes when he shouts "Where are they hosing him down?"
Continuity mistake: During the Warner Bros. chase sequence, Pee-Wee blasts through a studio that's filming a beach-themed movie. Upon exiting into the alley - where only a couple of idle trucks are present - he's pursued by a security guard driving a boat with two skiers in tow. But in the next shot, a station wagon and three actors emerge in the alley from out of nowhere.
Factual error: When you see Large Marge's memorial in the diner it says that the day she died was January 11 and when Pee Wee goes to Texas and is running from Andy there is a Día de los Muertos parade going on. That holiday actually takes place on November 1st and 2nd, that's a major time difference of ten months.

Visible crew/equipment: Near the end of Pee-Wee's chase scene at the Warner Bros. studios, he activates a launch mechanism on his bike and soars over a barb wire fence onto a roof. As he shouts "Geronimo," there is a crew member on the lower right hand side of the screen sporting a pair of sunglasses in front of a platform just staring towards the camera for a few seconds (best viewed on the matted widescreen DVD release).
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is in the car with Mickey, some shots are shown from Mickey's point of view and you can see the background behind Pee-Wee. If you look carefully, you can see that in the background there is a road that comes into the main road they are driving on. This smaller road appears twice, as if they have not moved anywhere.
Other mistake: Just before Jack and Pee-Wee start singing in the rail car, their train passes by some empty farmland. Pay particular attention to the buildings on the horizon, though. After a few songs, Pee-Wee can't take it anymore and decides to cover his ears and bail out - but where he lands is the very same location described before the singing began (note the exact same buildings and distance to them, which hasn't changed at all), as if the train didn't cover any ground.

Continuity mistake: After Mickey and Pee-Wee evade the highway patrolman, Mickey takes a good look at Pee-Wee in the outfit and smiles. Before the scene cuts away, you can see how the convertible is missing its rear-view mirror. Soon Pee-Wee sends the car over a cliff's ledge and, as they're screaming together on the way down, a rear-view mirror is hanging from the windshield all of a sudden. But once the car hits ground, the mirror is no longer there.
