Corrected entry: How was it possible for Dr. Selvig to build a fail-safe into his machine while he was brainwashed? Doesn't that imply that Loki secretly wanted it there?
Corrected entry: Loki throws Tony Stark out of the window, obviously breaking the glass, but right after he begins falling the glass window is perfectly fine until it is damaged again when the Iron Man suit flies in.
Correction: If you look closely you can see the suit is going through the glass next to the original hole Tony went through.
Corrected entry: When Iron Man tells the others what he intends to do with the missile, Captain America says that it's a "one-way trip." But, once he aims the missile at the Chitauri ship, Iron Man could have let go and returned through the portal. The missile would have kept a straight course at the ship; he wouldn't have had to keep flying with it.
Correction: The idea was he would guide it to the alien ship to be sure it would hit it and the portal would close before he could let go. He got lucky.
Corrected entry: Right after the second engine goes down on the shield Helicarrier, the altitude reading on Iron Man's HUD shows just over 15,000 feet for the altitude. A short time later, even though the helicarrier has been falling since the engine went down, the altitude on the helicarrier's bridge shows the helicarrier falling through 18,000 feet.
Correction: 2 independent systems showing different values for altitude is not a continuity mistake, it merely shows that the systems are not calibrated for the same ground level or, more likely, that both systems don't operate under the same physical conditions. E.g. Helicarrier in "normal" air vs Iron Man inside an engine that produces heat and pressure changes while moving, thereby falsifying his readings.
Suggesting Iron Man's suit is giving falsified readings because of pressure and heat is ridiculous. Iron Man's suit is controlled by an advanced AI, you really think it wouldn't notice strange readings?
Just because you notice a strange reading does not mean that you can correct it on the fly. Or, as suggested, Iron Man has simply calibrated his altimeter for a wrong/virtual ground level as a signal for him to get out of there in case his plan fails. The main point of my suggested correction is that the Helicarrier and the suit are two independent systems that do not necessarily need to show the same values and the views of Suit's HUD in them self are consistent insofar as that the altitude drops from 15000+ to 13000+.
You're right. 2 independent altitude meters can give separate altitudes. The correction is solid.
Factual error: During the scene on the Helicarrier where Bruce Banner "Hulks out" and jumps at the F-35B hovering just outside, we see the F-35B fire its guns, one inside each of its intakes. The F-35B has only one gun, externally mounted to underside of the fuselage. It would be impossible to mount a gun inside an aircraft's intakes.
Suggested correction: We can only assume it's a F35B but it's never stated at being one. It's a universe with a flying aircraft carrier. That could have similar looking planes with far different technology and specs.
I dunno... I feel that's a very weak correction. It's too nebulous and opens up too many holes. What's to stop people from applying that to every other mistake? (Ex. "Oh, well this movie's universe, blah-blah-blah, therefore nothing could be considered a mistake.").
Other mistake: What special "something" does Nick Fury use to pick the Cosmic Cube up at the beginning of the movie? All I saw was that he had on a glove, but in Captain America it was said only people with special abilities could handle it, and even later in the The Avengers when Banner is moving the cube, he uses a gadget and he's the Hulk! Did I miss something?
Suggested correction: Captain America and the Hulk are both more cautious than Fury, and it's revealed in Captain Marvel that Fury knows more about the tesseract than most and had dealt with it before. We know that the cube is just a vessel holding an infinity stone. The danger is what the cube contains. The fact his character decides to risk it based on previous experience isn't a mistake.
Stupidity: At the beginning after Loki steals the tesseract he could easily uses his magic to make a portal in order to disappear from there.
Suggested correction: Loki has never been shown to have the ability to form portals.
Never? He used the Tesseract in Endgame to disappear.
The original entry is saying that Loki could have used his own magic to create a portal. He has never been shown to have that power. If he did, he would have been able to escape the portal Doctor Strange trapped him in in Thor: Ragnarok.
Suggested correction: Loki is a trickster and only has the ability of creating illusions making anyone see what he wants them to see.
Suggested correction: Loki does not possess the ability to create portals with his magic. He could potentially use the Tesseract to do so, but it's possible he believes it needs to be connected to a machine or in some other kind of housing to be safely utilized, since that is how the portal opened that allowed him to come to Earth, and then later allowed him to open the portal above Stark Tower to allow the Chitauri to invade.
Correction: Loki simply ordered him to build the machine. Selvig otherwise functions as a normal person, and his scientific imperative would have led him to create an emergency shut-off just like he would with any other kind of potentially dangerous machine he would normally build. If there was a scene in which Loki is shown instructing Selvig not to build a fail-safe into the machine, then it would be a plot hole.
