Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie, when Clark is driving down the street looking at the map, there are 4 kids roller blading in the street. In one shot, one of the kids jumps onto a parkway lawn to avoid being hit by Clark's bad driving. Next shot, when they pan back to the kids, all 4 are still on the street.

Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the movie when Clark Crashes into Wayne Newton's house you can see the hood of the tour van is not damaged. A few scenes later when they pull up to the casino the hood has a lot more damage to it. (01:15:22)

Continuity mistake: In the first breakfast scene the ketchup bottle located between Clark and Rusty moves and at times vanishes between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Eddie and Clark are at the buffet, the cook has the two pots of chicken and beef, but the signs are in the wrong place. So he picks up the chicken and places it in the spot where it is supposed to go. He is about to put down the beef sign where it's supposed to go, and you see him pick up the chicken sign AGAIN and place it in the right spot, as well as the other sign.

Continuity mistake: Clark gives the blackjack dealer $200 and asks for chips. Even though the dealer never give him any chips, in the next shot we see he has chips in front of him and he's already placed one in the bet area. In the next shot the dealer asks him to place his bet and we see that the amount of $5 and $25 chips in his stack far exceeds $200. (00:14:50)

Continuity mistake: When Clark and Eddie go to the casino to get all Clark's money back, they walk up to the table and there is already a folded twenty dollar bill there. Then it shows Clark puting twenty down the same way.

Continuity mistake: When Rusty Griswold first gets his fake ID, he walks in to the Riviera Casino and goes up to the bar. When he tries to order a drink, the bartender asks for ID, right when he is doing this, he lays down a napkin, and then the scene switches and he lays the same napkin down in the same place again.

Continuity mistake: In the scene after Clark cashes a check to go to the card table Eddie orders a blue drink in a large glass. In the next shot when they walk away from the table Eddie's drink magically turns green. Then in the scene where they meet Wayne Newton, Eddie's drink is blue again.

Continuity mistake: When the mom is with Wayne Newton, after she was covered with pasta, she has a noodle in her hair. Later we see it dangling in front of her face to look more messy.

Continuity mistake: When Rusty takes his fake ID photo, he places his right hand directly over some numbers on the bottom of the "license." In the next shot, his hand has moved over significantly.

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie when Clark is driving home, he skids into his driveway where it is visible that the Ford Expedition is crooked and about three feet from the bike. In the next scene the Expedition is straight and right next to the bike, so that he steps on it when he gets out. (00:01:21)

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie when Clark and his family sit down at the kitchen table to talk about their Vegas Vacation, watch the fruit basket in the middle of the table. It's there when they go to sit down and it's gone in the next scene. Every time it shows the kids it's there and every time it shows Clark and Ellen it's gone. (00:02:32)

Continuity mistake: In Rusty's last craps scene, the croupier pushes the dice to him but Rusty picks up several chips instead - not the dice. Rusty immediately rolls the dice without having picked them up.

Continuity mistake: In the Keno scene, after Ellen fills out the Keno card, she gets up and walks to a counter to turn in the card. While that is happening, Clark has a conversation with Mr. Ellis. During close-ups of Clark during the conversation, Ellen's shoulder and the shiny sequined dress she is wearing can be seen next to Clark. Ellen is there one moment, gone the next, back again and then Ellen is shown returning from the counter to her seat.

Continuity mistake: When the Griswolds get into their hotel they meet their parents at the intersecting door Audrey is pictured by the door frame but the camera cuts off and she is sitting on the bed.

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie after Clark trips on the bike, you can see Clark put the Vegas brochure in his jacket pocket. When he goes to open the front door you can see no brochure in his left hand. In the next scene when he enters the house the brochure is back in his left hand along with his briefcase. (00:01:39)

Continuity mistake: Eddie (Quaid) takes Clark (Chase) to the casino buffet for dinner. As they fill their dish with food, Clark tells the server behind the buffet table that the chicken and beef dishes are labelled incorrectly. The server then switches the tags, placing them in each dish. In the next scene he repeats the switch.

Factual error: After checking-in at the Mirage, Clark is sitting by his hotel room window admiring the northward view of the strip. Based on the view he must actually be sitting at the nearby Treasure Island hotel.

Question: Did the old man really die at the end or was this just a ploy to give Clark the money for considering him part of the family? It all seems too fake. Winking, paramedics not doing anything to revive him, barely checking to see if he is alive, etc.

Chosen answer: Typically people don't give a knowing wink to someone when they are at death's door. I think what the paramedic says was the case. He just really wanted to feel like he belonged to a family. He met them, and they included him, so he wanted to "give back". This was the way he could.
