Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie where Stark, Rhody and the Senator is taking a photo, Stark's hand is supposed to be behind the senator but when the scene switches to the zoomed out view, his hands are by his side and when it switches back again, his hands are behind the senator.
Continuity mistake: The scene in the Monaco lounge when Tony Stark and Justin Hammer are sitting down at a table with Christine Everhart to give an interview, Hammer sets his drink on the table while he's standing but then the shot immediately cuts to him sitting down with the drink still in his hand.
Continuity mistake: Before Hammer starts eating dessert (and thus much before the "moving spoon and cherry" continuity mistakes), there's a back angle where he dips his spoon into the dessert and starts eating. The angle cuts to a front view with the spoon laying spotless on the saucer, and Hammer saying "I'll start with dessert", and then repeating the whole previous scene as if it were the first time.
Continuity mistake: In the beginning when Tony's press conference is on TV in Anton Vanko's home, the dialogue exchange between Tony and Christine Everheart has more talking than that same scene in "Iron Man" at the end. In "2", Christine mentions that Tony hates body guards in the exchange, but, this is never said in the first "Iron Man".

Continuity mistake: During the Monaco part of the film, when Hammer and Christine Everhart are talking at the table and the camera is angled towards her,Christine is holding her phone in her right hand and her recording device in her left. When the camera changes angle to face Hammer and Christine stands up to leave, the phone and recorder change hands.
Continuity mistake: When Hammer breaks Ivan out of prison and they have dinner together in the aircraft hanger after, the butler fills up Ivan's glass with red wine but in the next shot both glasses (wine and water glass) are full and he has a bottle of vodka even though we don't see the butler give him the vodka or fill the water glass.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the Whiplash-Iron Man racetrack fight scene in Monaco, Whiplash has Iron Man hooked with his right hand whip and Iron Man is down on one knee. The shot switches to focus on Whiplash's face and it appears as though his left hand is forward and hooked to Iron Man. This can also be seen in the 'suitcase suit' clip.
Factual error: As the credits roll, the songs are featured. The song 'Highway To Hell' by AC/DC is printed as Written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Brian Johnson. It was not actually co-written by Brian Johnson as he was not yet the lead singer of the band. It was actually written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott, nee Ronald Belfort 'Bon' Scott, who was the lead singer then until his death in 1980, after which, Brian Johnson was then hired as the new lead singer.

Deliberate mistake: Whiplash's Orange jumpsuit defies physics. The scene shows Whiplash powering up his harness at the race track, which burns off the top section of the jumpsuit, however the jumpsuit then mysteriously and impossibly appears tucked under the harness's belt. If the belt was in the inside of the jumpsuit, the jumpsuit would just fall to the ground and leave Whiplash basically naked, and not be tucked under the belt. If the Harness belt was placed on the outside of the jumpsuit, then the remains of the jumpsuit would have draped over the belt covering it up. There is no way the jumpsuit can end up tucked under the belt, but its done so Mr. Rourke and the movie can remain PG.
Deliberate mistake: The whole Monaco race sequence is totally (but deliberately) ludicrous. First no driver would be allowed without a fireproof mask and rest of required security measures, as Stark does. Second, the real-life security controls are very strict: When an accident occurs a safety car shows up, flags and audio advices signal the racing cars for them to lower their speed and avoid accidents. Nothing to do with the wild, uncontrolled race depicted here.
Continuity mistake: The executive toy on Pepper's desk is moving around throughout their conversation, but the positions don't always match as the camera angle switches - keep an eye on the longer bit of metal, which is sometimes pointing upwards then is suddenly upside down in a different shot.

Continuity mistake: When Whiplash and Hammer are in the hanger, the butler comes in and removes the same thin wine glass twice. Other glasses disappear and reappear and move position between camera angles. Also one glass fills instantly between shots with water when no-one was nearby to fill it.
Revealing mistake: There are obvious differences in the appearance of the "Ironman" and "War Machine" suits throughout the movie, as pertains to them showing a digitally-rendered suit vs an actual physical suit that the actor/stuntmen wear. Whenever a real suit is shown on an actor, it is quite bulky, most noticeably around the abdomen/stomach areas, and the size of the head-piece.The digital versions are much slimmer in the abdomen areas and the headpieces are much smaller and more compact.
Revealing mistake: Just after the scene where Tony meets Justin Hammer, Tony is looking at himself in the bathroom mirror and the supposed 'mirror' Tony raises his hand to suck on his bleeding finger. However, we can see the back of the also supposed 'real' Tony, he also raises his hand as the camera zooms into the mirror, but his hand movement is much later than the hand movement of the 'mirror' Tony. Therefore proving that both Tony's are two completely different actors so when zooming in, the camera could create the illusion of a mirror without the camera filming itself.
Continuity mistake: Ivan's scar changes drastically from the beginning of the movie. When his father dies and he is building his whiplash suit during the opening credits his facial scar lays on the surface of the skin trailing down his face from the outer corner of his left eye. Throughout the rest of the film it is a smaller, deeper scar about a quarter inch to the right of the original scar.
Factual error: The fake passport that Ivan is given along with the tickets to Monaco has several mistakes that show it to be fake to someone with basic ID training. The passport number, date of birth and expiry date do not match the Machine Readable Zone at the bottom of the passport. Also, one of the chevrons is reversed, and there are too few of them.
Continuity mistake: When Mickey Rourke is introduced to Sam Rockwell, they sit down for a rather lavish lunch in the Hammer aircraft hangar. As Sam drones on in his introductory remarks, the camera watches a waiter starting to pour red wine into the glass directly in front of Mickey Rourke. The camera cuts back to Sam, and Mickey's wineglass is already full. Camera cuts back to Mickey, and the full wineglass has moved about a foot to Mickey's right, although he hasn't touched it.

Revealing mistake: In the scene where the Senator is presenting the awards at the end of the movie, one of the microphones (third from the left) on the podium does not have a cable plugged in, which can also be seen in the next shot. In the proceeding close up shot, the mistake cannot be seen. In the very final shot before the credits roll, the same mistake can be seen.
