Journey to the Center of the Earth

Factual error: Trevor - a Professor of Geology - boasts about having an article published in Scientific American, and that is not something any scientist would do. Scientific American is looked upon with slight disdain by the scientific community, considered to be a populist crowd pleaser. It is not even peer reviewed. Considering that he has just turned the geological and archaeological worlds on their heads he would have been better off publishing in Journal of Geological Research or Geology, both prestigious professional journals.

Factual error: Hannah's full name is Hannah Ásgeirsson. Icelandic surnames are (Father's name) sson for boys and (Mother's name) dottir for girls, so Ásgeirsson would be the surname of the male child of a man named Ásgeir. Her name should be Hannah Sigurbjörnsdóttir.

PEDAUNT

Continuity mistake: At the beginning where Trevor is looking through Max's stuff, he sets the glove on the table. In the next shot the glove is back in the box. (00:07:10)

Continuity mistake: After Trevor and Sean clamber out of the lagoon that they landed in, they begin to remove their jackets because they are soaking wet. However between sudden shots, the beanie hat and headlight that Sean was wearing on his head instantly vanishes, with no time for him to have removed it himself. (00:37:40)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: As Trevor is telling Sean to check his watch in order to time how long it takes for the glowstick to reach the bottom of the chasm, Sean removes the torch from under his neck and points it onto his watch. Suddenly in the next shot the torch is back under his neck. (00:22:50)

Continuity mistake: After trying to tidy up the lounge area, Trevor gives up and resorts to throwing a large blanket over the central table, which he grabs from the sofa. After he picks up the blanket, between shots the position of the items on the sofa changes and also a cushion appears from nowhere. (00:04:10)

Hamster

Factual error: While magnesium is the seventh most abundant element in the Earth's crust, it never occurs naturally in the uncombined state because it is too reactive. Therefore, there are never veins of magnesium metal to be ignited. Magnesium metal (uncombined state) will burn if ignited.

Noman

Continuity mistake: After Trevor saves Hannah from underwater and they are all laying on the rocks, Hannah's wet stringy hair keeps on changing position and the wet hair that is stuck to her right shoulder keeps disappearing then reappearing back on her shoulder during the scene. (00:38:15)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: When Sean is jumping around the floating, magnetic rocks, a piece breaks off and falls. Why does it fall? It would just float next to the big one - held up by the magnetism. It might even float higher up, since Sean's weight should affect the bigger piece a bit.

Jacob La Cour

Continuity mistake: After the glowstick has been dropped down the chasm; and the shots goes back and forth from Trevor to Hannah as they talk, you can see from shot to shot that the torch in Sean's right hand keeps disappearing and reappearing. (00:24:05)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Sean is walking by the large dinosaur bones, he disappears for a second as if he has become invisible, but he reappears in the next shot. (01:00:00 - 02:15:00)

Suggested correction: It was a skip in time in the movie. He was further ahead on the sand in the same shot. Which then changes to beside him.

Other mistake: When sitting on the beach looking at Max's notes, they mention that it is 95F. But nevertheless none of them appear to be sweating. Their skin is dry, and Trevor is wearing a big sweater.

Plot hole: We don't see any herbivores in the underground world - just fish and little birds. A T-Rex would need lots of big game to survive.

Jacob La Cour

Continuity mistake: After Trevor, Hannah and Sean are forced out of the mountain (inside the T-Rex skull) by the pressure of the geyser, as they fall back down to the ground, they begin to slide through shrubbery. Between shots as they slide through, the amount of greenery and leaves that is inside the skull keeps changing from hardly any, to a lot, etc. (01:18:20)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Sean wakes up on the beach, he is lying face down in the sand beside a fish, and he is wearing gloves. In the next shot they are gone and reappear again in the following shot. (01:00:20)

Continuity mistake: After Sean lands on the beach after being carried away on the kite, the position of the ropes that are attached to the sail, laying on the beach keep changing position. Also, Sean removes the ropes that are wrapped around his arms after he wakes up, but after he drinks some of the beach water, the ropes are wrapped back on his arms. (00:58:00)

Hamster

Factual error: When Trevor, Sean and Hannah enter the cave full of emeralds, rubies and diamonds, you can clearly see that these precious stones are not in their rough, natural forms. Instead the diamonds are crystal clear and look shiny and polished. In reality they would be rough and have a murky yellow tint to them. (00:32:40)

Factual error: It is impossible to receive a cell phone call at the center of the earth. There is no way that a signal can penetrate thousands of kilometers underground like that.

Jeremy Wood

Continuity mistake: When Trevor finds the copy of 'The Journey to the Center of the Earth' inside Max's box, although the title is spelt this way on the front cover of the book, as he looks through the pages, on the insides of the book you can clearly see the headers spelling the title as Centre instead of like Center on the front cover. Continuity mistake: Trevor is going over notes scribbled in Max's copy of the book on the airplane. As he talks to Sean about the notes and how he is trying to decipher the Sigurbjorn Asgeirsson notes, in the first few shots of these notes most of them are written in clear jet black ink, nice and new. But in the closeup as Sean runs his finger down the notes, the same writing is now differently written and the ink looks much more faded. (00:12:00)

Hamster

Sean: Oh, we're in deep schist.
