Balls of Fury

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Randy is playing table tennis on the stage at the restaurant, just after he has finished hitting the ball blindfolded and says, "Thank you", you can see a man in the background getting up. The shot then switches to the boy with the man in the background still sitting. The shot then switches back to Randy and the man is getting up again.

Factual error: Karl Wolfschtagg's Olympic uniform should have read 'DDR' (Deutsche Demokratische Republik, the German name) rather than 'GDR', the English name for East Germany. Olympic country names are customarily rendered in their native language.

Deliberate mistake: When Randy is playing with Agent Rodriguez's gun (after first meeting him), when he accidentally fires it, you can tell the film inexplicably cuts forward a few frames into the same shot, as Randy's body suddenly shifts position and the gun is facing upwards, rather than at an angle as it was the frame before.

Other mistake: In one shot, a man is leaning over Feng and speaking in Chinese to him. The woman sitting next to Feng translates and says that it means the man has to go to the bathroom. Feng explains where it is and sits down. After, it switches shots to show the man leaving Feng's "throne" in the backround and sitting down, not going to the bathroom.

Continuity mistake: When Agent Rodriguez sits down next to Randy, when he tells Randy he has a plan B, he's holding a bowl with a red thing sticking out and sets it on the table. In the next shots of the table, the bowl is gone.

Factual error: On the USA Today page from 1988, where it called Randy a loser, on the top left corner is USA Today's website.

Character mistake: When Randy is introduced for his semi-final match, he comes out to "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard. The announcer says the song is by the "supergroup" Def Leppard. A supergroup is comprised of band members who were previously successful solo artists or band members prior to joining this band. Def Leppard is an original band. None of the band members were famous or successful prior to this band. (00:03:00)

Suggested correction: At best, this is trivia. Perhaps if the announcer was in the music business and knew the music jargon, it could be seen as a character mistake. I myself never knew "supergroup" had a specific meaning until you mentioned it. To me, it sounded like he just thought Def Leppard was super. Like calling them a totally radical group, despite no members being radicals - someone who wants complete political or social reform.

Feng: Less talkie-talkie, more ping-pong.
