Continuity mistake: Birdie and Justin are dancing to a song and when it ends the band announces, "We are going to take a short break and leave you with some fine tunes on the jukebox." The song "To make you feel my love" starts, but as they are dancing you can still see the band playing and someone singing.
Continuity mistake: When Bernice's father is leaving after the funeral he is putting things in a green car and after he pulls away you see a red car going down the road.
Bernice Pruitt: At home we had a pet skunk. Mama used to call it Justin Matisse. Do you think that's just a coincidence? All day long she would to scream, "You stink Justin Matisse!" Then one day she just picked up a club and killed it.
Justin Matisse: Now that's a sad story.
