Visible crew/equipment: When Neil (De Niro) breaks into Van Zant's apartment and shoots him, watch as Van Zandt flies backward. You can see a wire running up through the bottom of his sweat pants.

Continuity mistake: When De Niro confronts Ashley Judd in her motel room, he knocks all but a few hangers off of the metal coatrack. While the camera goes back and forth while they argue, the remaining hangers disappear and reappear several times.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Ashley Judd is giving Val Kilmer the "risk versus reward" speech, her hair goes from being neat to messy between shots.

Add time

Other mistake: In the scene where Pacino is talking with Albert outside, when Pacino starts singing, the soundtrack on Albert's dialogue is way off.

Visible crew/equipment: In the drive-in shootout scene, the camera and crew are visible in the rear view mirror in the cab of the white Dodge pickup fleeing De Niro and Kilmer.

Revealing mistake: In the scene when Pacino leaves the police station to go to his hotel for a shower, the camera is pointing up a tree lined street. Watch the pedestrians - they are all standing still until the car comes into view then someone obviously shouts action and they all start walking.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Neil is coming out of the elevator at the hotel Waingrow is staying at, you seem him switching his flashlight to his right hand while he reaches up with his left hand to set off the fire alarm. In the next shot, we see a close-up of his RIGHT hand setting off the fire alarm. The shot after this, you seem him lowering his LEFT hand from setting off that alarm, with the flashlight still being held in his right hand.

Add time

Visible crew/equipment: When Neil is sneaking up at Van Zant's house, you can see both Neil's and the camera man's reflection in the glass windows on the house.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the agents are doing surveillance on the hotel room, they have a camera connected to the "peep hole" on the adjacent door. There is a TV monitor that the agents are watching. When the agents open the door to leave the room, the door with the camera on it opens, but the picture on the monitor stays the same.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Vincent is sitting at the table drinking whiskey and talking to Justine, the remote control, the bottle, the glass, the bottle cap, and the chicken leg all keep changing positions. Yes, he does pick up some of these items, but right after he drops the chicken leg to the table, the camera switches to Justine. 2 seconds later, it goes back on Vincent and all those items have moved at once.

Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie, after the shootout between De Niro and Al Pacino, De Niro's character is dying. Al Pacino's character holds his hand and you can see, in different shots, the blood on his shirt changes.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Robert De Niro finds Val Kilmer in the apartment and they are discussing Kilmer packing it in. Kilmer is all stressed out, and decides to light a cigarette - using a Zippo lighter. The sequence of events is: Val Kilmer grabs a cig, smoke rises from the cigarette, THEN you hear the click of the Zippo lighter.

Add time

Visible crew/equipment: When Vincent Hanna decides Neil is already gone, he heads to his hotel room. He enters the room and walks out onto the balcony. The shot of him approaching the balcony and opening the sliding door is shown from outside, on the balcony itself, and the cameraman (wearing a white shirt) and camera are visible reflected on the left side of the sliding glass door. It is more evident as the shot progresses, because the cameraman shifts position and the reflection moves further to the left, becoming larger.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Al Pacino is confronting Hank Azaria about his relationship with Ashley Judd, the position of the knot in his tie changes during the scene. (I saw this error noted under "corrections", but if you watch closely, the knot is almost completely under the left collar tab of his shirt between shots.)

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Neil & Co. are in the restaurant after the armoured car robbery, they all get up to leave to deal with Waingrow. The next shot is from the parking lot of them leaving the restaurant. Right as the shots switch, they are all standing still lined up at the door for a second, and then they start to move out the door (once the director yelled "Action" I'm sure).

Add time

Heat mistake picture

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Hanna and Casals break into Hugh Benny's apartment, when they break down the door it can be seen that a stuntman is filling in for Pacino.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Neil sets off the fire alarm in Waingro's hotel, there is a little red sign above the fire alarm when shown from far away. When it shows his hand up close pulling the alarm, the red sign is gone.

Add time

Heat mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the shootout scene when they drive away in the car, De Niro is seen in slow motion as he realises there are cops in front of them as well as behind. He raises his weapon and fires, knocking the rear-view mirror off the window. In the shot directly after he is seen still firing his weapon and the mirror falls off the window again.

Add time

Factual error: As Al Pacino is catching up to Robert De Niro on the freeway he uses his walkie talkie to get an update on De Niro's location. He does not take his finger off of the talk button and therefore would not be able to hear the helicopter pilot's response.

Add time

Continuity mistake: At the very beginning of the scene when Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are in the coffee shop talking about when De Niro was in prison, De Niro's top shirt button is buttoned in the first shot, then it becomes unbuttoned a second later.

Continuity mistake: The ambulance that de Niro steals at the start of the film has a red stripe on the sides, but for the remainder of the film there is also a silver 'L'-shaped graphic as well.

Continuity mistake: After De Niro beds the woman from the bookstore, he leaves to get her a glass of water. When he returns, there is a different cover on the bed than when he left.

Add time

Continuity mistake: While Chris is searching the armored car, Waingro stands there with his gun out. In the background, you can see the spike strip already pulled across the road . A few seconds later, they show the spike strip being pulled out across the road.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the final airport chase, when Pacino and De Niro are at the end of the runway, an airplane lands. It is first filmed nose-on, then the shot switches immediately to a from-behind shot after the plane has passed overhead. The plane in the nose-on shot is a Boeing 747, evidenced by the "bulb" above the cockpit area. The plane in the from-behind shot is definitely NOT a 747 - no bulb.

Add time

Continuity mistake: After the first wave of police cars does the "demolition derby" across the spike strip, they show some cops running out to stop the next group of cars. When they do that, the spike strip is not in the street. Then the scene shifts to a close up of the cop cars skidding to a stop directly in front of the spike strip, which has now re-appeared.

Add time

Heat mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When they torch the ambulance, you can see a dealership emblem that says "LEADER" right above the Chevrolet emblem on the back door of the ambulance. It is visible right after Chris puts the bomb in. In all other shots with the ambulance, this emblem isn't there. Obviously the "LEADER" ambulance is a "fake" that they used just to burn and destroy.

Add time

Factual error: In the shootout scene, De Niro loads the injured Kilmer into a stolen Ford wagon, drives backward pushing yet another unoccupied car out of the parking lot. Despite that second car being unoccupied in a parking lot, the car rolls backward (which it can't do in park or with a park brake applied), and after a few car lengths, the pushed car suddenly turns sharply (which doesn't happen with a locked column, which is standard equipment that self-activates when the ignition is shut off). Now, if the car were left running, in neutral, with no brake applied, everything that occurs would be possible. But the combination is very unlikely, especially right behind the car that a fleeing bank robber will choose to steal and ram into it.

Continuity mistake: In the shoot-out after the bank heist, Vincent's rifle starts out as an AR-15 style with a carry-handle, but by the time he catches up to Mike, it switches types and has no carry-handle.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Neil talks to Chris about Chris' marriage, Neil's hand holding his coffee cup moves up and down between shots.

Continuity mistake: When the crew's black van is in front of IGM, Trejo turns the parking lights off and there's a shot of Neil coming out the door to hide in the corner. Then they switch to the police monitor where Vincent is watching Neil, and it shows the van's lights are still on.

Add time

Factual error: When Vincent enters the nightclub, you can see that a woman is walking through the metal detector, but the security guard is scanning her with a hand-held wand at the same time. This is totally unnecessary. The hand-held should be used only if the walk-through is triggered.

Continuity mistake: In the scene when De Niro kicks down Waingrow's hotel door, on the police TV you see the sign on the door handle fall off. However when De Niro enters and hits Waingro in the face, the sign is back on the handle.

xx:xx:xx

Other mistake: In one scene, Vincent asks one of his subordinates how he is after getting shot. The reply is "Banged up, but I'll live," but the subtitle reads "Hang up, I'll live."

Continuity mistake: The armored car robbery takes place in the early morning. Waingrow pulling on his clothes, the light in the sky all say early day. By the time Pacino arrives to survey the scene it's pitch black and all the bodies are still on the ground.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the armoured car robbery, when the explosive charge is fired, the windshields of the row of nearby cars all explode outward toward the blast instead of inward away from the blast.

Add time

Factual error: At the end of the movie, Pacino is chasing De Niro amongst the Navigational Aids at the airport. As a jet approaches, the approach lights are turned up to full brightness. Full bright is only used during decreased visibility (not the case in this scene).

Add time

Continuity mistake: During the shootout scene, De Niro is in the passenger seat of the getaway car and attempts to shoot out the windshield. He empties half the magazine from his automatic AR-15, yet when the camera changes to a front view, there are only 4 bullet holes in the windshield.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: During the scene in Edie's house in which Neil first asks Edie to go away with him 'somewhere', when the camera shot faces Neil he is shown wearing only his white shirt. When the shot changes to the camera facing Edie over Neil's shoulder, we see the dark border of Neil's suit jacket in the lower corner of the screen. This continues throughout the scene, as the shots repeat back and forth with Neil in white shirt only as he faces the camera and wearing his jacket as he has his back to the camera.

Add time

Continuity mistake: After the last security guard is shot in the armoured truck robbery scene, his arm positions change from being by his side to spread wide apart.

Continuity mistake: When the three guards are removed from their armored car the one standing in the middle has blood caked all over his face, however 4 seconds before Waingro shoots his victim the middle guard's face is mostly clean.

Revealing mistake: In the gun battle following the bank robbery, Drucker fires his shotgun at Cherrito. A female pedestrian in the background (unaware she's in the shot) can be seen acting casually, without any reaction to the shooting taking place.

Add time

Other mistake: Drucker is able to shoot out a tire on the getaway car at a distance of at least 30 yards, probably more. Later in the scene, he fires at Cherrito from a much closer distance and doesn't even graze him. Apparently shotguns have selective range.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the parking lot, when Waingro escapes being executed, Neil and his crew spread out and look for him. It is nighttime and the sky is clear. Yet when Neil looks out to the distance, it is raining in the last shot.

Add time

Allister Cooper, 2011

Continuity mistake: In the bank robbing scene, they enter on the street level and since no elevators or stairs are used by them the bank must be on that same level. However, looking out of the windows during the scene it appears they are on an upper floor in the building.

Neil McCauley: Roger Van Zant?
Roger Van Zant: Yeah, who's this?
Neil McCauley: You know who this is.
Roger Van Zant: Yes I do, yes I do. I sent a guy to deliver the package. He didn't call, is everything all right?
Neil McCauley: Tell you what, forget the money.
Roger Van Zant: What?
Neil McCauley: Forget the money.
Roger Van Zant: Wh...it's a lot of money. What are you doing? What do you mean, forget the money?
Neil McCauley: What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone.
Roger Van Zant: I don't understand.
Neil McCauley: 'Cause there's a dead man on the other end of this fuckin' line.

Trivia

The final shoot-out scene at the airport with DeNiro and Pacino running across runways, avoiding being run over by jets, and winding up in the brush is an homage to the final scenes in 1968's 'Bullitt'.
