Revealing mistake: When Bob has difficulty with his seat belt at the start of the road trip, the side-view mirrors have a translucent finish, just as in other shots throughout the film; however, the mirrors' surfaces are normal in the rest of the shots. Deliberately done to obscure the reflection of the crew. (00:13:20)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When the RV rolls into the lake, the side-view mirror is intact. Next shot, as Bob rushes to rescue the sinking RV, the entire side-view mirror is suddenly gone. Later, after they pulled the RV from the lake, that side-view mirror is intact again. (01:15:35 - 01:29:55)Super Grover
Revealing mistake: After the RV rolls over Bob, in the overhead shot as he lies on the ground, there are two tire tracks - one to Bob's left and another to his right. Problem is that the RV has four rear tires, which actually should have left the imprint of four tire tracks. (01:12:40)Super Grover
Factual error: When the family is beginning their trip, Bob has difficulty putting the RV in gear. We hear gears grinding despite the fact that the vehicle obviously has an automatic transmission (as evidenced by the column shifter). Automatic transmissions do not contain the same type of gearbox as manual transmissions, and it is impossible for an automatic to create a gear-grinding noise. (00:13:30)
Revealing mistake: When Bob is on the bus' roof there are interior shots of the bus and all its right side (viewer's left) sliding metal framed windows are visible and intact. After Travis stops short, in the following exterior shots four of the double sliding windows have been deliberately removed from their tracks, so the camera's view of the kids is unobstructed. (01:23:10)Super Grover
Revealing mistake: When Bob hangs upside down on the Gornicke windshield, in the shot facing the bus as he begins to fall, we can see the driver's and front passenger's seats and Travis, his wife, and Jamie are all gone. Of course they are back in the following shot. (Only visible on fullscreen DVD.) (01:23:15)Super Grover
Revealing mistake: When Bob throws pitches to Carl while he barbecues, the close-up of the grill shows Bob's arm holding the tongs as he fiddles with the food. Problem is, it is not Robin William's notoriously hairy arm and hand in the close-up. Things on the grill differ between shots as well. (01:01:10)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: After the Big Rolling Turd has rolled backwards over the grocery carts, in the shot of the RV heading down the highway the back center window curtain is hardly open. In the following interior shots, as they sing, the entire curtain is open, but in the last exterior shot it is hardly open again. (00:17:15)Super Grover
Revealing mistake: The Munro's RV has a large pop-out (slide-out) on its left side, behind the driver. When the pop-out is closed one side wall should be directly behind the driver's seat, but that wall is gone - it has been deliberately removed. As a side note, when the Munros rush to leave before Mary Jo Gornicke reaches them, that wall (with a small window) is seen in the exterior shot, as it slides in. (00:19:15 - 00:39:30)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Bob is on top of the Gornecke's RV, and they stop suddenly, you can see that the gates of the Alpine beverages company are a distance away. However when they walk around the front of the bus in the next shot, it is as though they pulled up right in front of them. (01:19:50)
Continuity mistake: When Mary Jo begins walking to the RV at 6:00 AM, Bob and Carl remove the tire blocks outside, while Jamie closes the "stupid pop-out thing" inside. In the exterior shot, as it slides in, Bob is sitting with his hand on the steering wheel - though it isn't until two shots later that Bob actually gets back to the driver's seat. (00:39:25)Super Grover
Other mistake: After Todd phones Bob and tells him about the rinkle-dinkle regarding Larry's request, when the Munros sing about the Rolling Turd, in the close-up, as the RV drives past the camera, the sideview mirror is deliberately turned all the way around so as not to see the crew's reflection. This also occurs when Bob asks the Trooper about the traffic jam around Mt. Watson. (01:14:00)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Bob drives up Diablo Pass and ends up teetering on the mountain, his seatbelt is strapped across his chest. After the first close-up of the speedometer, his seatbelt is off as his foot steps on the accelerator, but after second close-up of the speedometer his seatbelt is still on. (01:09:45)Super Grover
Visible crew/equipment: When everyone is singing their own song (except Robin Williams), the last shot of this scene shows the back of the RV. As the camera pans down, you can see several cars reflected in the window, one of which is the crew's truck with the camera crane erected above it. (00:18:35)MooCow
Continuity mistake: When the Gornickes catch up with the RV, its shadow is cast to its right, but after Cassie tackles Carl to the ground, there's an exterior shot of the RV and bus as they both cast long shadows to their left. This drastic change in shadows continues in following shots. (00:57:00)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: After Jamie pinches Carl's ear because he spills their destination, when Mary Jo walks toward the Munros, Billy's back faces the camera as he stands on the ground, away from the bus. However, in the next shot Billy faces the camera as he stands on the stool while leaning on the bus. (00:35:10)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Bob is chasing the Gornickes on the bicycle, the bus turns right onto the highway. In the next shot, it is turning left. (01:12:00)
Continuity mistake: At the very end when the Munroe family gets stopped by the police, they walk directly behind the RV. A moment later when the RV rolls down the hill (and runs over the police car) it is facing toward them. For it to do this it would have to run over them.
Other mistake: In the scene where Bob is trying to get reception on his pocket PC, he is on a rock and the pocket PC beeps, indicating that there is no signal. But when it goes to a closeup of the pocket PC, you can see in the top left hand corner that the signal is full.
Continuity mistake: In the RV, Jamie puts stacks of dishes away in the overhead cabinet - second from right, when Cassie moves Carl off the couch. When Bob makes the sharp right turn, the dishes pour out of the overhead cabinets, but the ones that come out of the second cabinet are not the same dishes that Jamie put away. (00:12:20 - 00:15:00)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Earl gives Cassie the list of places that sell organic health food, in the close-up she holds the papers with her right hand at the top and left hand at the bottom. However, in the next shot it's the opposite way, her right hand is at the bottom and left at the top. (00:44:05)Super Grover
Revealing mistake: When Bob is riding the pushbike down the steep hill to get to his family and the Gornickes at the bottom, in some shots you can blatantly tell that a stunt double that looks nothing like Robin Williams is riding the bike. The stuntman is also visible later when Bob is on the roof of the Gornickes' bus.
Continuity mistake: Just forward of the right rear wheelwell, a small dent disappears and reappears throughout the movie.
Continuity mistake: When they arrive at a campsite to take in the view of the lake that Bob saw with his family as a kid they leave the door to the RV open with the stairs down. After some dialogue the RV rolls into the lake with the stairs up and the door closed.
Continuity mistake: After Bob comes home with the RV, when he and Jamie walk into the kitchen there is a butcher block cutting board laden with items, at the edge of the counter. However, when they speak beside that island counter the cutting board is gone. (Even more noticeable on fullscreen DVD.) (00:10:20)Super Grover
Visible crew/equipment: After Bob urges Alpine not to merge, when Carl flips Todd there is a huge straight edge shadow where they stand, however, there is absolutely nothing near the seated people that would cause such a shadow - only the crew's equipment. (Even more noticeable on fullscreen DVD.) (01:29:20)Super Grover
