Continuity mistake: When Benjamin is running up the stairs of his rooming house with a stack of presents and a big bouquet of flowers, the flowers are pointing down held by his left hand with the presents in front of him. When he rounds the corner of the stairs, the flowers are upright in front of both him and the presents.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin follows Elaine and meets up with her on a bus as she's going to the zoo to meet her boyfriend. After Elaine and her boyfriend walk off and leave Benjamin alone he looks over at two monkeys sitting in their cage. The first time we see them they're sitting next to a window, but in the next shot of them we're looking at two different monkeys that are not sitting next to a window.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin uses the cross that he pulls off the window to keep the wedding guests away from Elaine and himself. Right before they exit the church he charges the bystanders one last time then turns around and holds the cross as if he's going to swing it through the door. In the next shot he's just holding it outstretched in his hands.
Continuity mistake: Mrs. Robinson sits at the bar and asks Benjamin, "Did you know I was an alcoholic?" and the silver shaker bottle with the large ring on top of it moves from the back of the bar to being between Mrs. Robinson and the radio she turns on, on the left wall. A few shots later it moves back again.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin breaks into the Robinson's house and runs upstairs looking for Elaine but finds Mrs. Robinson instead. As she picks up the phone to call the police we see nothing on the bed except a blue pillow. In the next shot there's a lot of other things now covering the blue pillow.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin says to Mrs. Robinson, "I'm going home now, I apologize for what I said" as he walks out of Elaine's room. In the next shot as Mrs. Robinson walks out, if you look very closely everything on the three shelves to the left and right of Elaine's picture has been rearranged.
Continuity mistake: As Benjamin approaches their house, Mrs. Robinson gets into the car and threatens to tell Elaine about their affair. Benjamin gets out of his car in the pouring rain and runs to the Robinson house and if you look closely he runs out from under the rain making machine about thirty feet from the car.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin pulls a cross off the window of the church and uses it to lock the people inside the church. If you look closely when we see the church from the outside the cross is not there and before he pulls it off the window there's a curtain in front of it, which disappears between shots.
Continuity mistake: In the last shot of Benjamin and Elaine inside the bus he's facing forward and she's sitting slightly to the right of the center window divider on the back of the bus. In the next shot he's sitting sideways with his arm resting on the top of the back seat and she's moved about eight inches to the right.
Continuity mistake: After Mrs. Robinson corners him in Elaine's room, Benjamin runs down stairs and picks up his drink just before Mr. Robinson walks through the front door. When we saw the drink earlier as he put it down just before they went up to see Elaine's picture, it was half full, now it's empty with a few ice cubes in it.
Audio problem: When they play the "Sounds Of Silence" and get to the verse "And the people bowed and prayed", "and the people" was left off of the closed captioning. In the verse "And the sign flashed out its warning", "and the sign flashed out" is left off. In fact half of the song is left out.
Continuity mistake: Mr. Robinson sits in Benjamin's apartment waiting for him by the window as he smokes a cigar. In the first shot of this scene the cigar is lit, he never puts it out but several seconds later we see it again and it isn't. Then in the shot after that we see smoke blowing through the air as we look at Benjamin face.
Revealing mistake: After he bangs on the second floor church window, Elaine screams his name and Benjamin runs down the steps to the main floor of the church. Mr. Robinson meets him halfway down as they fight and if you look closely Benjamin's white windbreaker was made to just fall apart as Mr. Robinson tugs on it.
Audio problem: When Ben and Elaine go on their first date, they're driving really fast in his car and talking. When each of them talks, the wind noise is evident in the audio. This means they used the original audio on scene, instead of replacing it later (known as ADR). The cuts in the audio here are very noticeable.
Continuity mistake: As he leaves the apartment Mr. McCleery tells Benjamin to, "get out of here". If you look closely at the light fixture over the pay phone in front of him you'll see it only has one light on it. In the next shot as he rounds the staircase we see it again and there are two lights on it.
Continuity mistake: In the hotel room Mrs. Robinson makes Benjamin promise that he will never take Elaine out. If you look closely the purple chair in the middle of the room has been moved out about a foot away from the wall so that it's now blocking her line of sight and obscuring the bottom of the lamp that's in front of the window. When we saw this spot before as they were lying in bed the bottom of the lamp could easily be seen from the bed.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson have a rendezvous and while they're in bed he gets her to talk about where Elaine was conceived. She turns out the light and the conversation continues a while in the dark until Benjamin indicates that he might take Elaine out on a date. She turns on the light again and gets ready to rip his head off and two drinks appear where there were none before under the lamp on the left of the screen.
Continuity mistake: After Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson have a fight about Elaine she sits on the side of the bed putting on her stockings as she gets ready to leave. Benjamin says, "Oh no, look I like you" and in the next shot as the camera shifts angles a chair appears in front of Mrs. Robinson that wasn't there before.
Continuity mistake: Mr. Robinson pours Benjamin a scotch and puts the large black liquor bottle back down facing outward the same way as the other one. As Mr. Robinson hands him his drink Benjamin says, "thank you, thank you very much" and if you look closely at the label the black bottle of scotch has been rotated 90 degrees to the left and is no longer facing them.
Continuity mistake: Mr. Robinson leaves Benjamin's apartment and calls him filth and scum as Mr. McCleery the landlord sits at the top of the steps listening. The painting on the wall to the left of the steps is not in direct light but in the next shot when Benjamin walks by the lighting has changed and a dark shadow cast by the frame against the wall is visible.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson have a rendezvous and while they're in bed in the dark he tries to get her to talk about her life and her husband. If you look closely after she turns the light back on the drapes on the window behind the lamp in the rear of the room have been rearranged without anyone going near them. This happens a couple of times throughout the scene.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson have a rendezvous and while they're in bed he tries to get her to talk about her life and her husband. If you look closely at the top of the nightstand to her right there's only a pack of cigarettes and the switch to turn off the lamp. They speak in the dark for a few seconds that she turns the light back on and the nightstand is full of all sorts of other stuff that wasn't there before.
Continuity mistake: Benjamin brings up Mrs. Robinson's purse who says, "Put it in Elaine's room, where we were". He proceeds to put it next to a vase on the first shelf to the right of her picture. We've seen this shelf a few seconds before and all that was there was a cup and a pink basket that are now gone.
