Continuity mistake: At about the middle of the film, when the Ghostbusters are rising to fame and are appearing on the front of newspapers and magazines, the photograph on the front of the New York Post is taken from the end of the film, just before the four of them cross the streams from their proton packs.
Revealing mistake: In the ballroom scene, when Slimer is flying around the chandelier, he disappears for a few frames when he reaches the far side. [This animation is mentioned in the DVD commentary. The film makers were generally unhappy with the entire animation and the fact that the representation of the apparition did not resemble those previous and that the movement was very unconvincing.]
Revealing mistake: Near the end of the film when the Ghostbusters take cover in a small corner and come up with the "cross the streams" plan, look closely at Peter's proton pack, you can see that it is a foam "stunt" pack as there is a small sticking out part that keeps squashing against the wall behind him.
Continuity mistake: When Winston gets hired, Venkman and Stantz have just come back from a job. They're covered in slime and Venkman's smoking. Ray gives Winston an armful of traps. We then cut to Venkman chatting to Dana after a rehearsal, so we assume it's later, maybe even a different day. After that scene though, we then cut back to Stantz showing Winston (wearing the same shirt) what to do with the traps, and Venkman talking to the guy from the EPA. Venkman's got the same slime pattern on his shoulder, and is still smoking. Looks like the Dana/Venkman scene was in the wrong place.
Plot hole: The Ghostbusters cross their proton pack streams which results in a tremendous explosion. The next scene shows the blast pushing Mr. Sta-Puft away from the building. A second later another scene shows the explosion radiating outward from the roof. The only part of him shown over the edge of the building is his head and his right hand. To get all over the Ghostbusters, marshmallow would have to be blown in the opposite direction against the force of the blast. It makes sense that there was marshmallow all over the street, but how did it land on the Ghostbusters?

Revealing mistake: The first time the heroes use their proton weapons (in the hotel sequence), you can see (using slow-motion) that the rays don't actually come of the weapon, but from their target. The rays were "drawn" during post-production and, apparently, it's easier to start drawing from the target to the weapon. (According to MM rules the use of slow motion IS permitted for viewing something significant, such as a 'revealing' mistake.)
Continuity mistake: In the scene when they are emerging after the Stay-Puft explosion, we see Ray with marshmallow on his face and a small amount on his chest. He wipes his face, but in the shot following his apology for the burnt dog hair comment, his front side is completely covered in the stuff.
Continuity mistake: When the hotel manager refuses to pay the bill after the Ghostbusters capture the green ghost (Slimer), you can see he is putting his handkerchief into his top pocket with his left hand, but in the very next shot he can be seen putting the handkerchief in the pocket with both hands.
Continuity mistake: At one point in the movie we see the end of the hallway in Dana's apartment and the end is of a window and the wall around it is red like the end near Dana's door. However, (either when the Ghostbusters arrive at the end or when Louis is being attacked by the terror-hound) the whole hallway (even the other end) is all white.

Revealing mistake: A shot from above Dana Barret's apartment, from just above a statue looking down on the road below: The statue in the foreground is partially transparent. We can see the double yellow line on the street go straight through one of the statue's upper fangs, and one of the white lane dividers going through the statue's lower jaw. Viewed on Bluray disc.
Continuity mistake: When the guys blast the glass lamp in the hotel, it falls on a table and messes up the table and chairs around. In the following angle the chairs are in a different position and the area, which was dark half a second ago is now perfectly lit, without anyone having moved and, most important of all, after the big lamp has been shred to pieces.
Revealing mistake: As Dana's apartment crumbles apart to present the temple of Gozer, there is a tight shot of a gargoyle falling off an exterior corner. Carefully lined up with features on the gargoyle's face - but still readily visible - are the black strings that pull the gargoyle face off its mount.
Continuity mistake: At the Lincoln Center (that place Dana's orchestra plays at) the nerd with her has his case and they're leaving when Peter is there. Nerd-boy goes off to the side and waits. When they start off again, his case pops back and forth unhumanly between being carried under his arm and in his hand between long and close shots about 3 times.
Other mistake: After the guys decide to rent the building, the shot of New York from the park is the very same one, though with different sky colour, to that of the moment when they are about to battle Gozer. Though it's a very wide and common shot of the park, the very same people are laying on the grass in the very same position in both shots (big screen recommended to spot it).
Visible crew/equipment: When Dana arrives at the Ghostbusters' office, a crew member can be seen moving behind the filing cabinets behind where Janine is sitting. It could be Venkman, but even after Venkman walks over to Dana, there's still a rogue hand there, showing us it wasn't Venkman and was a crew member.
Continuity mistake: When the 'disgusting blob' goes through the wall above the vase of ferns after being attacked by Ray, you can see two small amounts of slime appear on the wall. In the next scene, when the food trolley crashes into the table, there is more slime on the wall than there was in the previous shot.
Continuity mistake: Venkman meets Dana by a fountain. When he says goodbye to her, first a man with a hat passes behind him and disappears in the next angle; then, in a close-up, Venkman is surrounded by dozens of people who vanish half a second later in the wide angle, where the place appears empty.
Continuity mistake: When Dr. Venkman investigates Dana's refrigerator, there is a Corning dish and a can of Coke side-by-side on the top shelf. The camera cuts twice, and there is suddenly another item (looks like lunch meat) that appears in front of the Corning dish and the Coke can.

Continuity mistake: When the Ghostbusters capture the green ghost, they emerge from the ballroom. The manager then asks,"Did you see it? What is it?" and you can see he has his hands by his side, but the next shot shows him with his left hand reaching for the handkerchief in his top pocket.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where the earthquake begins, the Ghostbusters fall into a hole. They're in two rows - in the first row are Venkman and Ray and in the second row are Egon and Winston. In the following shot, it is now Ray and Winston on the first row and Venkman and Egon on the back row.
Continuity mistake: After Louis asks if anybody wants to play Parcheesi at his party, there is a lady sporting a red vest behind him, standing in front of a wall with framed photos. Two shots later, she's standing in front of the kitchen next to a bespectacled man. The very next shot, she's teleported back to where she was initially, in front of the wall.
Continuity mistake: When Dr. Venkman is looking in Dana's refrigerator the items on the top shelf shift position, disappear and/or are replaced with other items. The large glass dish that was on the left of the Coke can is replaced by a small plate of food. The Coke can turns. There is also now a large bottle behind the Coke can. Clearly these 2 connected shots were filmed on different days and the items were stocked without regard for the previous shots items and positions.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie when everyone is waving to the Ghostbusters and Ray is backing up the car, on the light bar on Ecto 1, the outer lens is a solid blue light bar. When the car goes to drive away, it's a clear light bar with blue lens covers over each individual rotator.
