The Sentinel

Continuity mistake: At the very beginning of the movie, when Kim Basinger is in the bedroom and walking towards the mirror, the movements of her reflection do not match her movements. She stops moving and her reflection continues to move. (00:04:25)

Continuity mistake: When Merriweather is shot, the killer is several meters away and down the stairs. But Garrison finds a shell casing right next to the body.

Factual error: The Presidential helicopter(s) is only called Marine One, when the President is on board. Like Airforce One - there are several aircraft of the same type, but the code name is only applied to the one carrying the President.

Factual error: When Garrison takes a phone call at the Mayflower, the person on the other end tells him to "walk 3 blocks east on Massachusetts Ave., take a left on 12th Street, Las Palmas coffee shop." The Mayflower is at Connecticut Ave. & L Street, about 6 blocks directly west of Massachusetts & 12th. Massachusetts Ave., which runs diagonally, does not form a logical route between the two locations. (00:34:45)

Factual error: When Marine One is shot down, it is depicted flying alone. In reality, Marine One always flies in an air motorcade, to prevent exactly what happens in the film.

Factual error: The President goes to the G8 summit in Toronto at the end. The G8 is comprised of Canada, United States, Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and Russia. In the room there are a number of non-G8 countries represented.

Continuity mistake: When Eva Longoria first appears on screen, you can see her on a CCTV monitor, she then passes through the door, and the camera moves slightly to show her physically going through the door. You can still see the CCTV image and can see the door is closing, but when you look at the physical door she goes through, it's not moving. It's supposed to be the same door. (00:08:25)

Revealing mistake: In many of the scenes, particularly when Michael Douglas is leaving the cafe, you can see onlookers staring into the camera. A possible explanation is that few extras were used.

Plot hole: Right at the end when Pete calls for the "Hard Car" to evacuate the president, he gives very specific orders as to the evacuation point. Considering he was to be arrested on sight, there is no way he would know any of the security arrangements and they would surely have changed them radically because he was such a senior agent. The Secret Service is constantly changing their security.

Factual error: At the very end of the film, the camera zooms out from the White House revealing the Washington Monument behind it, however in reality, the monument would be to the viewers left of the White House and would not be viable in this shot.

Polygrapher Medina: Have you received adequate training for your profession?
Agent Davies: No. But I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express.

Question: Is it really true that when you use a silencer the bullet slows down and is not as strong as if you did not use a silencer?

Jason Riley

Chosen answer: Sometimes. A suppressor, known commonly as a silencer, works by reducing the sound of firing by manipulating the escaping propellant gas, and sometimes by reducing the velocity of the bullet. It all depends on the type of suppressor that is used.
