Continuity mistake: In the scene in which Hugh Marlowe and his fiancée are on the alien ship, speaking with the aliens, his arm is over her shoulder when shown from the front, but down and he is about a foot away from her when shown from behind. The shots alternate back and forth, front and behind, so that the mistake is fairly obvious.
Continuity mistake: At Carol's barbecue a soldier drives up in a jeep with a message for Dr. Marvin stating that they lost contact with rocket No. 11. Dr. Marvin holds the message and an envelope in his hand as they look up and see the rocket burning up in the atmosphere. He never puts the message back into the envelope but when he sits down the envelope is alone and the messages is gone.
Continuity mistake: As the aliens announce their intentions to the people of earth Dr. Marvin walks up to a radio in the back of the lab and says, "If I'm right they'll sail into Washington in broad daylight ". If you look closely the radio is pointing to a different station that it was when we saw it previously in the scene even though no one has gone near it.
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin tries out his new improved magnetic interference unit and an alien craft is spotted flying around inside of the Belmont lab above their heads. Before the craft takes a dip down at them they're standing on the right of Dr. Marvin's magnetic device, but when we see them again they're standing on the left of his device.
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin walks in as Carol sleeps in their hotel room and then proceeds to call the aliens on his shortwave radio. By the time he walks out of the room to meet with them by the Chesapeake Bay the items on top of his dresser have moved, without anyone going near them.
Continuity mistake: Carol and Dr. Marvin are locked in the underground bunker at "Operation Sky Hook" as the power goes totally dead. Somehow in total darkness without any power we still hear the sound of the aliens speaking which is strange because if you look at the tape recorder it's not running at all.
Continuity mistake: Carol and Dr. Marvin are locked in an underground bunker at "Operation Sky Hook" and the doctor makes a tape recording of himself as the power goes out and the lights start to flicker. He says, "The batteries are failing, the recorder's not running up to speed" but if you look at the tape recorder it never slows down and keeps running at the same speed.
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin runs out of their hotel room and proceeds to his meeting with the aliens by the Chesapeake Bay. Carol calls Major Huglin in his room and we see that the filmmakers used the same room for both shots with items such as paintings, beds, lamps and water pitchers moved to different spots.
Continuity mistake: At Operation Sky Hook, Gen. Hanley tries to get Dr. Marvin to stop the launch, but he can't. We see the rocket several times on the doctor's video screen and the rocket that actually blasts of is not the same one we first see, as the tail fans are painted differently.
Continuity mistake: After they've destroyed the alien craft spotted flying around inside of the Belmont lab, Dr. Marvin and the others decide to pack up and leave. Even though the sound has been edited out, the car and truck are already running with their headlights on before anyone gets into them.
Continuity mistake: After they pull over to the side of the road and look at the UFO, Dr. Marvin gets back into the drivers seat and hands Carol a Chesterfield from his shirt pocket. In the previous shot he didn't have anything in his shirt pocket, in fact he didn't even have a pocket on his shirt.
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin and Major Huglin leave The Internal Security Commission meeting together and drive from The Pentagon to the doctor's hotel. Even though we just saw Carol and Dr. Marvin fly into Washington in an airplane he's driving the exact same make and model car that they were in at"Operation Sky Hook". Even the California license number AV-35-B7 is the same.
