Continuity mistake: When Malfoy and his friends bother Ron and Hermione, Harry shows up and messes with the three boys. He grabs hold of Malfoy's feet, lifts them in the air and pulls him across the snow. In the first close-up of the soles of Malfoy's boots, not a speck of snow is on them, though he was just walking in it! Then in the next close-up, his feet still in the air, the soles are now covered in snow.
Visible crew/equipment: At dinner, just after Harry takes the plate from Petunia and as Aunt Marge says, "A bit more," referring to the brandy Vernon pours, in the left glass door of the hutch behind Vernon, there is a nice clear reflection of a crew member lowering his white sleeved arm off screen.
Deliberate mistake: When Harry drops the Monster Book of Monsters, in the first shot facing Harry's feet as the book chomps at him, he runs backwards a few steps and he stands at the foot of the bed. However, in the shot facing the fireplace, there is actually plenty of floorspace now, much more than other shots, between the rug and bed for Harry to continue to run backwards.
Continuity mistake: In the first exterior shot through the back patio door, as the Dursleys eat, the kitchen window and patio set below are visibly quite far from the white patio enclosure. Later, when Vernon falls to the ground as Marge floats away, Petunia runs to him and now the kitchen window, on a supposed brick wall, is actually right beside the white patio enclosure. Adding to the absurdity, the entire house is in the opening shot of the film and that middle part of the wall is conspicuously missing. Additionally, even the bricks and stone top of the seat wall between the tiled patio and grass have changed.
Continuity mistake: The actual width between the two front large wood bed posts in Harry's room at the Leaky Cauldron inexplicably changes between shots, as do their position on the wood plank floor! Here's what happens: after Harry removes his shoe and dangles it in the first overhead shot, there are five specific wood planks between the posts. Yet when he drops the shoe in the next overhead shot, there are now over five and a half wood planks between the two posts. The left post has moved to the right - by 1/2 a wood plank and the right post actually moved over one whole plank!!
Continuity mistake: The first time we see Hermione punch Malfoy, she turns completely away from Malfoy, then spins round and hits him. However, when Harry and Hermione watch themselves later, Hermione barely turns away from Malfoy before she punches him, and uses a different punch too. Malfoy's reaction is different as well.
01:20:05 - 01:44:50
Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's, when Harry, Ron and Hermione are there the first time in the film, there is a large birdcage, blue cup and saucer, watering can and small wood planter (with seedlings) on the windowsill. Later, when Hermione visibly throws the first stone, as the stone flies through the window the watering can and blue cup's positions differ and the wood planter and large birdcage are actually gone! When she throws the second stone they are back on the windowsill.
01:24:05 - 01:52:20Super Grover
Revealing mistake: Just after Harry attacks Snape at the Shrieking Shack, he insists on knowing about Peter Pettigrew. In the next shot, as Lupin says, "He was at school with us. We thought he was our friend," there are wedges under the wheels of the piano, however, in the following shots they're gone.
Continuity mistake: In the hospital wing, when Hermione says, "Sorry Ron, but seeing as you can't walk," the camera pans around her and Harry. BEFORE she turns the timeturner, the bed that Harry was lying in is visible and the blankets which were folded neatly in the previous shots are now off and very messy and the positions of the tall blue screen and chair near the bed are also completely different. Later, when they return, the bed is perfectly neat and the chair is pushed back again.
Deliberate mistake: It was a deliberate directorial decision to change the geography of Hogwarts, but it still grates with continuity. Most of the Buckbeak scenes happen around Hagrid's hut, which is down all those steps and near the forest. However in the Philosopher's Stone, Hagrid's hut is about 5 seconds walk from one of the main entrances of the school, nowhere near a load of steps and huge hill. Also, the Whomping Willow (which itself differs greatly) is on the grounds of the castle, as you see it on flat land when Harry and Ron land the flying car in the Chamber of Secrets, however in this one it is right away from the school next to quite rocky land.
Continuity mistake: After Hermione punches Malfoy, when he and his friends run away, Malfoy says,"Not a word to anyone, understood?" just as Hermione says, "That felt good." Then Malfoy says "jumped up mudblood" when he enters the doorway and as Ron says, "Not good," Malfoy says, "Mark my words." However, when future Hermione and Harry duck and hide, the scenario differs. As Malfoy and friends run, he says everything, "Not a word to anyone, understood?" through "jumped up mudblood. Mark my words," and that's when Hermione says, "That felt good."
01:23:30 - 01:49:50Super Grover
Visible crew/equipment: When Hermione and Harry go back in time, they duck and hide from Malfoy (after being punched) and his friends as they leave. The rectangular outline of a power pack (battery pack for hidden cordless mic) is visible at her lower back, under her pink jacket. It is visible in a few shots, including when they are at the pumpkin patch. The outline of Harry's power pack at his back is visible as well, as he bows to Buckbeak at the pumpkin patch, when they rescue him.
Continuity mistake: When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in Hagrid's hut prior to Buckbeak's execution, a stone flies in the window and strikes a pot, splitting it pretty much down the middle. There are two major shards. However, when Harry and Hermione 'relive' this moment from their position among the pumpkins, the stone (thrown by Hermione) breaks the pot in a very different pattern, with smaller pieces (and more of them). Since the same event is just being played through in time again, the pot should have broken exactly the same way both times.
01:24:45 - 01:51:15
Revealing mistake: While Hermione and Ron watch, cloaked Harry starts up with Malfoy and his two friends as they all stand in the snow. Most noticeable in the wide shot, when Harry spins the Slytherin boy, although the boy's feet visibly disturb the snow, Harry's feet do not make a mark - no footprints whatsoever.
Continuity mistake: When Harry first arrives at Lupin's office as he packs, the skulls with the horns, sitting atop the bookcase, are visible. In the following shots, the skulls not only drastically alter their positions, the one with the very tall horns is actually gone in some shots!
Continuity mistake: In Harry's room at the Leaky Cauldron, the rug and log holder's positions change. For instance, in the shot from under the bed, as Harry's head looks upside down at the Monster Book of Monsters, the rug in front of the fireplace is directly ahead. The right edge of the rug is aligned with the bed post on the wood floor. However, in the shot from the top of the bed the rug's position is now much farther to the right, use the wood planks as a guide.
Visible crew/equipment: At the end of the film when Harry is in Lupin's office, Lupin packs his bags and then he walks past his desk. He then starts saying "If I am proud..." to Harry. As he says this, he walks forwards towards Harry, passing a cabinet of skulls. Reflected ahead of him in the glass panel of the cabinet is a very large boom mic which slowly moves out of sight as Lupin walks forward. It is very visible.
Continuity mistake: When Harry is in Lupin's office, as the Professor says, "I resigned..." his cane leans against the corner of the trunk beside the doorway. Yet when Harry says, "But Dumbledore..." the cane hangs off the center of the trunk. As Harry says, "None of it made any difference," the cane is actually gone, but when Lupin says, "You helped uncover the truth," the cane hangs again. Then when Lupin says, "If I am proud of anything..." the cane leans against the corner, but wait, when Lupin leaves the office the cane hangs off the trunk once again!
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Hermione are at Hagrid's to rescue Buckbeak, Harry walks toward the hippogriff and bows. In the next shot just as Beaky bows, when his head is down low, look directly in between the right edge of the screen and the wood post, above the pumpkins. A pair of black pants quickly pass to the left; it's certainly not one of the crows, unless it grew human legs. (Only visible in widescreen.)
Plot hole: Harry never notices that the name "Peter Pettigrew" appears on the Marauder's Map, right next to "Ronald Weasley." Way beyond a character mistake, as there's no way that wouldn't be cause for interest. If nothing else, Ron's brothers who had the map for years before giving it to Harry, would most certainly have wondered why their brother was sleeping with a person named Peter Pettigrew.
Continuity mistake: Between the shots of Marge floating out of the house and later when Petunia runs to Vernon on the grass, there are many significant changes. The short brick walls that edge the Dursley garden are actually different bricks, different grout and are even aligned differently between these shots. The bushes along the wood fence are at least 2-3 ft away from the corner bricks in the first shots, but in the last shot are aligned with the corner. The height of those bushes go from being way above the top of the wood fence to being at least a foot below. In the first shots there are small metal plaques that are attached along the top of the wood fence, but in the last shot they are gone.
Revealing mistake: Right at the start when Harry is on his bed and making a light under his sheet, you can see that he is actually on something like a light panel in order for this effect to happen. For one thing, when he moves around on it, it doesn't bend like a mattress does. Also, about halfway down the bed you can just see where the sheet ends and this panel begins.
Continuity mistake: During the scene where the Fat Lady is missing, the students are gathered on the stairs and Fred and George are on the top of the stairs, right next to each other. In the shot right after Ginny says, "The Fat Lady, she's gone," one of the twins is on the left, at the foot of the other staircase. He could not have moved that fast, because the two are standing beside each other when Ginny talks.
Continuity mistake: When Harry first sees the Patronus with Sirius, from Harry's POV it is clear that the Patronus light contracts entirely into the wand, while the area around the wand is still visible, and then he collapses. However, when Harry casts the spell later into the movie, Harry collapses on the other side of the lake, while the light from the wand is still quite large.
01:41:00 - 01:57:00
Continuity mistake: When Marge insults Harry's parents, Harry gets angry and screams "Shut up." In the very next shot, from behind Petunia, Petunia turns her head behind to look at Harry. The next shot is a side on/wide shot and Petunia's head is not turned behind, in fact she is now looking in Vernon's direction. In the next shot, which is again a shot from behind Petunia, she is looking behind again.
Continuity mistake: Immediately after Remus' and Sirius' fight (as werewolf and animagus dog), a wounded Sirius stumbles down a pathway towards the lake. Harry is only a few steps behind him. When the scene cuts to the next shot, Harry is now running down a wooded slope alone and spots Sirius lying next to the lake. Sirius, in his weakened and injured condition, could not have sprinted so far and so quickly ahead of Harry. The terrain isn't steep enough for Sirius to have rolled all the way to the edge, and he wouldn't have had time to get up and continue walking.
Continuity mistake: In the Shrieking Shack, Harry grabs Sirius Black and throws him to the floor. There are many black marks on the floorboards, like paw prints etc. Although Sirius doesn't move when Harry first throws him on the floor, the black marks on the floorboard near Black's head change between the first wideshot of him on the floor and the following closeup and in subsequent shots as well.
Continuity mistake: When Sirius flies off on Buckbeak, the ground on which he takes off from is a perfectly clean stone ground with nothing on it. Yet after Sirius has flown off, Harry and Hermione run across the same ground, only now it is covered in dead leaves, grass and mud, etc.
Continuity mistake: When Hermione and Harry hide behind the pumpkins, Hermione says, "Come on! We're coming out the back door. Go!" As HRH run out of Hagrid's, Hermione and Harry run to hide behind the trees. In the shot facing the two, with the pumpkins and Hagrid's behind them, the blanket on the ground beside the pumpkins is visible, though it is gone thereafter.
Continuity mistake: When Fred and George give Harry the Marauder's Map, Harry opens it up and on the right is Dumbledore's study. In the close-up shot of Dumbledore's study, the map is drawn with much more elaborate detail for fun and dramatic flair and the actual words of the interlocking circles are written on the map extremely differently than the previous shot.
Continuity mistake: During the dinner scene at the Dursleys, Dudley is shown in a close-up watching a game-show where a young woman is putting on large headphones. But when the shot returns to the whole room, you can see the girl on the TV putting on the headphones all over again.
Continuity mistake: In the first exterior shot, as the Dursleys eat dinner, both sides of the kitchen window (above the patio set) are closed. When Harry says, "Oh yeah, I've been beaten loads of times," the right side of the window is clearly open, as the window's diamond shaped pattern is only towards the left side. It's also visible when the lights flicker and the window curtain on the right blows in. In the last shot, as Marge floats away, both sides of the window are closed again.
00:03:10 - 00:05:45Super Grover
Continuity mistake: In the first exterior shot looking through the Dursley's patio doors, as they have dinner, and later when Vernon runs after Marge, the threshold is wide, flat and all white. Below the glass on the doors the trim is narrow and at the very bottom it is wide. There is a keyhole opening (on the left door) under a particular style door handle and there is a wide double lip going round the entire edge of the left door. When Petunia runs out, the threshold is higher up and mostly brick, with a thin strip of white in the middle. The style of the patio doors under the glass is completely different, there is no keyhole, the handle style differs and there is no double lip on the door. Additionally, the large clay pots with plants, beside the doors, change from being glazed and shiney to being unglazed, its plants differ and things change position.
00:02:00 - 00:05:00Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Aunt Marge's chair starts to float up, in the close-up of her legs, her feet are at least a foot off the ground and the chair even more. However, after her necklace pops, Vernon yells, "Down boy!" at Ripper, she lets go of the table and in the next wide shot, her feet are still well under the table and the chair is still touching the floor - this shot is spliced from the earlier shot, just after Ripper first bites Vernon's foot!
Continuity mistake: As Harry reaches Lupin's office, Lupin stands by the bookcase and the front end of the valise under the desk points towards the right. However, when Lupin says, "No, no, I resigned," the front end points the opposite way. Then when Harry walks to the doorway, it's the same way as the first shot.
Continuity mistake: After Ron, Hermione and Harry run out of Hagrid's they hide behind the pumpkins, while the other Hermione and Harry look on as they hide behind trees. When Hermione comments about her hair, the tree branch she moves away is completely different between the shots facing her and the shots facing Hagrid's.
Continuity mistake: In the first shot at dinner, when Marge says, "Finish that off for Mommy...Rippy-pooh." she places her plate down on the carpet for Ripper. In the view under the table, Harry's and Vernon's legs are visible and Vernon walks past Dudley. In the next shot, Vernon comes from the side and walks past again.
Continuity mistake: While Harry and Hermione try to coax Buckbeak to follow them, Hermione has the rope with the ferrets around her neck, which differs between shots. After Hermione tosses Beaky the second ferret, in the shot facing her she takes hold of one of the two hanging on the rope, on her left and dangles it, yet in the next wide shot she dangles both ferrets, in her hand.
Continuity mistake: When Potter spots the dog at the bus stop he stumbles backwards and falls onto the pavement. Then we see the bus light come at him. When it cuts we see the bus come around the corner. How could the light be shining on him when the bus wasn't coming at him at all?
Continuity mistake: After leaving the Dursleys, Harry sits down on the pavement beside his trunk, with no room between the two. When he turns to look at the squeaking swings, in the shot from behind him, there is at least a foot of space between Harry and the trunk. Yet in the next shot that faces him, the trunk is beside him once again.
Continuity mistake: When Vernon holds Marge's hands as she floats up, in the shot just before she yells, "Don't you dare!" Dudley stands behind Petunia with the napkin hanging from his collar. After she floats away screaming, in the close-up of Dudley the napkin stains differ and it now has a glob of white cream which he promptly wipes off and eats.
Continuity mistake: When Harry, Hermione, and Ron are hiding behind Hagrid's pumpkin patch in an attempt to hide themselves from Fudge and Dumbledore, Hermione turns around at the sound of a 'crack' in the forest, she then turns to her left and runs with the others. Later, when seen from Hermione's view reliving the past, Hermione at the pumpkins turns to her right before running with the others.
01:26:20 - 01:52:20PoPEyE
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hermione are back in time, Dumbledore, Fudge, the Executioner and Hagrid come out of Hagrids hut to execute Buckbeak and they find Buckbeak has gone. Then Dumbledore says "I don't think the minister's suggesting you had anything to do with this" and in the wideshot Dumbledore steps up onto the bottom step of the stairs leading to the hut, and stands right by Hagrid. Yet in the following closeup as Dumbledore says "How could you..." Dumbledore is now not on the bottom step, but standing on the path much further away from Hagrid.
Continuity mistake: When Ron gets Scabbers back in Hagrid's hut, immediately afterwards Hermione says, "I think you owe someone an apology". Later, when future Harry and Hermione hide behind the pumpkins by Hagrid's hut, you can see Ron getting Scabbers back. So right after this Hermione should be saying, "I think you owe someone an apology." But future Harry and Hermione talk for a little bit, and when they're done, Hermione says the line. Shouldn't this line have already passed? (This can be easily checked on the closed captioning.)
01:21:25 - 01:47:00
Continuity mistake: After Potter and Hermione have escaped with Buckbeak, Dumbledore says, "I don't think the Minister's suggesting you had anything to do with it." At that time you can see three crows on the roof above Hagrid, and one of the crows takes off. When the scene cuts back there are still three crows on the roof.
Continuity mistake: When Harry falls backwards onto the pavement, after seeing Sirius the dog, in the shot facing Harry the trunk lies halfway up on the pavement. However, in the next shot as the Knight Bus nears, only the very top edge of the trunk leans on the pavement. Yet in following shots it is halfway up the pavement again.
Continuity mistake: During Hagrid's class, when Malfoy stands before Buckbeak as the Hippogriff rears up, in the wide shot facing Buckbeak, Malfoy lifts HIS left arm with his right arm still down at his side. However, in the next close-up facing Malfoy, HIS right arm is now lifted high up. (This has nothing to do with camera angles.)
Continuity mistake: When Harry falls back after being startled by Sirius the dog, the Knight Bus headlights shine glaringly bright light all over Harry and the trunk. Yet in the next shot facing the oncoming Knight Bus, Harry and the trunk are barely lit by the headlights, which are nowhere near as bright. In the previous shot the light is obviously provided by spots.
Continuity mistake: When the ghost comes through the window on his horse we see him riding into the hall before the headless ghost comes through the window and pursues the first ghost. Then it cuts from inside the hall and we see the first ghost come through the door again. By this time it should be the second ghost coming through the door, not the first.
Continuity mistake: In the Shrieking Shack, Snape enters the room brandishing his wand at Lupin and Black, and both Lupin and Black back away from Snape. Lupin and Black both lean back on the big piano that's in the room. Yet when the shot changes Lupin is still backing away from Snape, and neither Black or Lupin are in front of the piano, let alone leaning back on it.
Continuity mistake: When Potter is messing with Malfoy and the other two kids outside the Shrieking Shack, as Potter drags down the cap on one of the kids, you can see the kid's scarf is suddenly tied. It wasn't tied in the earlier shot, and Potter could not have tied it that fast.
Revealing mistake: In the scene in which Harry, under the guise of the Invisibility Cloak, is dragged by the Weasley twins into the castle by his arms, it's obvious that the twins are miming a person in between them. There is one point when they round the corner right before throwing him onto the stairs, the twins are pretty much side by side, there is absolutely no room between them for a person at that point. They then widen the space again right after they round the corner.
Revealing mistake: When Hermione fakes reading the crystal ball, Trelawney insults her and Hermione knocks the crystal ball off the table. As the crystal ball leaves its stand it turns over and the tube used to create the smoke effect inside the ball is visible. Then as the ball rolls toward the stairs, there are no tubes visible.
Continuity mistake: When Harry picks up 'The Monster book of Monsters' you see him holding his right hand at the top at the book. When it cuts to a closeup of the book while he is holding it, you can see his hand is on the middle of the book. In the following shot his hand is on the top of it again.
Continuity mistake: When Harry arrives at Lupin's office the tall dark ornate chair sits directly in front of the corner of Lupin's desk, with one of its chair legs right beside the desk leg. However, in the wide shot when Lupin explains that he resigned, the chair is much further away. Then after Lupin leaves, when Harry walks towards the door, the chair is beside the desk again.
Continuity mistake: In Lupin's office, the chair, vase on the floor, etc., between the window and fireplace significantly change positions. Noticeable when Lupin says, "This time tomorrow the owls will start arriving..." then continues, "Dumbledore has already risked enough on my behalf," to the close-up when he magically packs his belongings in the trunk and thereafter.
Continuity mistake: During CoMC class, after Hagrid coughs, says, "Ta da!" and gestures toward Buckbeak, there is a shot of the students and Hermione's Monster Book of Monsters lies open on the huge rock. In the next close-up of Hermione, her book is closed and partially buckled. When Ron asks, "Hagrid...what is that?" her book lies open again. Books lying near Hermione's change in consecutive shots as well, including the one held by the girl beside Neville.
Other mistake: When Harry is talking with Arthur Weasley at the Leaky Cauldron, the number '301' (colored in white) digitally pops up right underneath the wanted poster. The composite people neglected to remove it. Sirius Black's number is '390' (colored in black) - it's written on the paper that Sirius holds in the poster. (This occurs in the widescreen version).
Continuity mistake: When Stan Shunpike begins, "Welcome to the Knight Bus emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard...," in Harry's close-up the lamppost is directly behind Harry. However, in the shot from behind Stan when Harry says, "I fell over," the post is about 6 ft away, to Harry's left.
Continuity mistake: When Hagrid is telling Harry, Ron and Hermione that Buckbeak must be executed, you see Harry in the background sitting on a rock, then stand up when he hears the news and walk away from the rock behind him. In the very next shot from behind, Harry is sitting down again (the water ripple from the small stone is visible at Hagrid's left).
Revealing mistake: When Neville opens his 'Monster Book of Monsters' he falls to the ground. Then he is lying on the ground and his book is attacking him again. We can see the pieces of pre-cut papers, that should be coming out of the book's mouth, actually come up from the ground, when Neville is holding the book above him. Obviously it's not real.
Continuity mistake: The first time Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave Hagrid's hut before Buckbeak gets "executed," Hermione opens Hagrid's back door and all three are peeking out of it before Hagrid opens his front door. The second time, when Harry and Hermione are watching from the pumpkin patch, Hagrid opens the front door at about the same time that Hermione opens the back one, and Ron and Harry aren't even seen yet. Because this is the same event in time from two different points of view, it should be absolutely synchronized.
Continuity mistake: In the Boggart scene, right after Professor Lupin tells Parvati to go and face the Boggart and it shows Harry high-fiving Ron, in the background you can see Seamus start to walk towards the front of the classroom, but he is standing behind Dean Thomas seconds later in the next shot.
Continuity mistake: At the Shrieking Shack, when Scabbers tries to run away, as he runs towards the small hole in the wall, the shape of the hole differs in the shot facing the rat's hind and the next shot facing Scabbers, just as he enters the hole. (Obviously before the hole enlarges to accommodate Peter.)
Continuity mistake: When Harry storms into the pub in Hogsmeade, the camera follows his footprints to the door, and at the door is a large clearing where there is no snow, because the ground is sheltered by the door's porch. Yet in the following shot the clearing has decreased greatly.
Continuity mistake: While everyone is in the Dursley's dining room, before and after Aunt Marge's inflation, the plates, cutlery, food, etc., on the table and kitchen counters change positions in subsequent shots, depending on the camera angle, not due to anyone touching them.
Continuity mistake: Just before the Knight Bus starts to squeeze between the two double decker's, watch the annoying Shrunken Head at the front of the bus. There's a long shot as the bus is just about to squeeze, and the head turns round to face Harry. There's a shot of Ernie pulling the leaver, then a close up of the head as it turns round again, and says, "Mind your head."
Revealing mistake: In the first overhead shot as the Dementors swoop down towards Sirius and Harry, Sirius lies in a particular position. During the Dementor attack his clothes move, then after Harry's Patronus repels the Dementors, Sirius breathes again and he now lies flat. After Harry collapses, in the last overhead shot, Sirius and his clothes lie in precisely the same position as the first overhead shot. His position differs later, in the repeat timeline as well.
01:42:50 - 01:45:20Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Snape and Harry are in the hallway and Lupin shows up and Snape goes, "Well, well, Lupin," you see Harry in the background attempting to tuck away the Marauder's Map in his pocket. When Snape grabs for it, he reaches up more, as if Harry is holding it more by his shoulder.
Continuity mistake: While HRH sit in the Leaky Cauldron, as Ron says, "Even Scabbers enjoyed himself," and continues, "Yeah, along with the dung beetle," the stool behind Harry is straight and not under the small table at all. In the next shot as the twins get on Ron, the stool is crookedly pushed under the table.
Audio problem: In the Knight Bus, when Shrunken Head says, "Yeah, take..." in the front shot, his mouth, cheek and jaw move as he speaks. As he continues, "...it away, Ernie! It's going to..." in the back shot, his mouth and jaw do not move at all, yet when he says, "...to be a..." his mouth and jaw move as usual.
Continuity mistake: In Hagrid's hut, Hagrid gets something from a cage, and then he tosses it for his creature to eat. If you look closely, you'll see Hagrid *accidently* throws the item over the creature, nowhere near its mouth, yet in the following closeup the item is still flying towards the creature's mouth, and the creature gobbles it up contently!
Continuity mistake: When Hermione tries to coax Buckbeak to follow Harry she holds up the ferret in her hand. Between the shots facing Hermione and then Buckbeak, the ferret and its paws change the direction that it faces while she grips the hind of the animal. This is only in regards to when she grasps the ferret and does not let go.
Continuity mistake: When Harry attacks Malfoy, he pulls Crabbe's pants down. When Malfoy and Crabbe start to run up the hill, in one shot, Crabbe's pants are down by his ankles. In the very next shot, his pants are up near his waist and he wouldn't have had time to pull them up between shots.
Continuity mistake: After the Weasley's have handed over the Marauder's Map to Potter, George puts his wand on the Map while saying, "I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good." When it cuts to a closeup of the map, you can see the way Potter is holding it changes, and the way George's wand is on it changes.
Other mistake: During the whomping willow scene, Hermione does indeed say Rupert, not Ron. She says it quickly, but I am not the only one who hears her say Rupert. She definitely does say Rupert. I just listened to it 3 times to make sure. [This may differ between versions - people are equally convinced on both sides.]
Continuity mistake: When Sirius, Lupin, Snape and the rest are gathered together in the Shrieking Shack, in some of the shots we see the main double doors swing back and forth, due to light gusts of wind. However, the doors' positions instantly change in some consecutive shots, even though there is no wind between the two shots.
01:27:35 - 01:30:45Hamster
Continuity mistake: At the hotel, when Harry tries to catch the Monster Book of Monsters, a train passes and some wood powder falls from the ceiling but when Harry steps on the book, there's no more trace of powder on the floor. It can't be completely under the book, because there was powder at different places.
Factual error: When Harry is beating up Malfoy and the two Slytherin boys in front of the Shrieking Shack, he grabs one of them by his scarf and rotates him around. The center of their revolutions should be at the end of the scarf (where Harry grabs it), but as there is no actual counterweight for the boy he has to balance only his own body, which moves the center of his revolution strongly towards him.
Revealing mistake: In the Shrieking Shack, just after Scabbers becomes Pettigrew, when Sirius and Lupin pull him out of the hole, as the camera faces Pettigrew's back while they hold him, the blue tape on his 'missing' finger is visible for 2 frames. (It is necessary to go frame-by-frame.)
Continuity mistake: After Harry arrives at the Leaky Cauldron, Tom brings him to meet with Fudge. When Tom leads Harry to the chair in the wide shot, it is at a diagonal, but in the next close-up it faces the table head on. It changes in following shots as well. (This has nothing to do with the shape of the chair's arms.)
Revealing mistake: When Malfoy and his friends are beaten up by an invisible Harry, Malfoy is dragged along by Harry. In the SECOND shot when Malfoy is dragged along (which is a close shot of Malfoys legs up in the air) look closely (perhaps slow-mo) in the bottom right hand side of the screen and you can see a bare hand move into view, quite close to the screen. This can't be Malfoys because he has gloves on.
Continuity mistake: During the scene in which Uncle Vernon's sister Marge is turned into a balloon we see her floating out of the conservatory. A second before she is blown out the door we see from the shot looking into the conservatory that Aunt Petunia is to the right of the conservatory doors inside the dining room. When the shot changes, she is now standing in the doorway to the conservatory.
Continuity mistake: When Uncle Vernon is pouring brandy to Aunt Marge we see Harry picking up a plate from the floor while holding two other plates in his left hand. When it cuts Harry is still holding the two plates, but something which appears as a napkin or something has appeared in his hand as well. You can see it sticking out between the plates. Whatever it is it wasn't there in the previous shot.
Continuity mistake: As Vernon watches Marge float away, he is on his knees on the grass in the backyard, with Petunia beside him. Still on his knees as Vernon shouts, "Please!" in the shot from inside, his position on the grass is now centered with the door, so as to be visible for this shot.
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hermione are back in time, Lupin's transformation happens a lot faster than the first time. Also, the first time, Hermione shouts "Harry!", then Sirius yells "Run! Run!", then Lupin howls. The second time it goes "Harry!", then howling, then "Run! Run!"

Continuity mistake: At Snape's class when Hermione shows up and Ron says "Did you see her come in?", you see Potter turning around facing Hermione. When it cuts to Snape saying "Now, which one of you can tell me the difference..." you can see Potter is now looking at his book. When it cuts back Potter is facing in Hermione's direction again.
Continuity mistake: When Aunt Marge is about to fly out the door, we can see Uncle Vernon leaning on the table with his back against the door and the dog biting his left foot. When it cuts to Aunt Marge coming out the door, we see Uncle Vernon facing the door and the dog is biting his right foot.
Continuity mistake: When the train suddenly stops, Harry gets up and slides the door open. He pulls the door with a tight grip on the doorhandle, then he releases his grip from the handle and rests his palm on the doorhandle. But in the next shot he is gripping the doorhandle again.
Continuity mistake: The large hutch behind Vernon actually moves over to the left, closer to the lamp, during the dinner with Marge. At the start of the dinner scene, the chair beside the hutch, behind Vernon, is at least two feet away from the small table, which holds the lamp. As Marge starts to expand, the chair is right beside the table.

Continuity mistake: During the DADA lesson, as Lupin jumps between Harry and the Boggart, to their right there are two tall containers, beside one another, standing against the wall with different items in them. The items change in the following shots, including the 'mirror reflection' shot. When the balloon whizzes past the back of the class and the camera spins around, the two vases are much farther apart, but in the next shot facing Harry, they're together again.
Deliberate mistake: During the DADA lesson with the Boggart, the body double for David Thewlis (Lupin) is quite evident in some close range, head on and side shots. As a matter of fact, Emma Watson's and other actors' body doubles are very noticeable in many shots not involving a stunt.
Continuity mistake: When Harry is talking to Sirius (the first time), Hermione yells to Harry to get his attention about Lupin. In the background, you can see Hermione sitting next to Ron right as she starts to say "Harry." In the next shot, she is standing up farther away from Ron (this is visible in the widescreen DVD only).
Continuity mistake: When Marge floats off, Vernon is holding onto her, and Marge's dog is biting Vernon's trouser leg. In a closeup the dog is pulled well onto the Dursely's back lawn, as he bites Vernon's trouser leg, yet in a following wideshot the dog is dragged from the patio and onto the lawn once again, whilst biting the trouser leg.
Continuity mistake: Harry moves closer to Snape at the Shrieking Shack, as he points his wand at the professor. In the first two shots Snape stands closer to the door, yet in the close-up as the spell hits he is farther from the doorway, so he can easily fly backwards for the stunt.
Continuity mistake: After Harry boards the Knight Bus, Stan hands him his ticket. In the shot facing Stan he folds the paper and holds it between his index and middle fingers. However, in the shot facing Harry, the paper is straight and he holds it between his thumb and index finger.
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hermione travel back in time, Harry walks towards Buckbeak, planning to save him. There are pumpkins around Buckbeak and there is also a black cauldron near him too. The pumpkins and the cauldron move between shots during the scene as do other items in the background, and nobody touches them.
01:48:25 - 01:49:25Hamster
Continuity mistake: When the Dursleys are in the dining room, the chair located near the telephone, on the kitchen counter, changes position throughout the scene. In some shots its back is right beside the phone, in others not, and then in other shots its back leans right up against the wall and in others it is positioned well away from the wall.
Continuity mistake: When Dumbledore first introduces Lupin as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, the camera pans to the Gryffindor table. You can see that Ron and Hermione are sitting opposite each other with their dinner sets in front of them. Then Malfoy insults Harry, then when it cuts to Ron saying "Shove off Malfoy" Ron is now sitting opposite the girl who was beside Hermione and not Hermione herself, and the girl couldn't have just moved across because all of her dinner set is in front of her too, perfectly set out.
Continuity mistake: When Harry goes back to Hogwarts and they stand before the Fat Lady portrait she refuses to let them in because she's trying to show them she can break a glass with her voice. When she cannot she smashes it upon a brick wall behind her right shoulder. Later in the movie after the students gather around the Fat Lady's painting after it's slashed the wall is missing.
Revealing mistake: As Harry and Buckbeak fly over the loch, Buckbeak's foot trailing in the water leaves a wake, as it should. This wake should also disturb the ripples and waves that are already present on the surface of the water, but they do not. It is obvious that the wake effect was added in, but the foundation shot of the loch was not edited to help it make sense.
Continuity mistake: After Neville's Snape/Gran Boggart, Lupin says, "Wonderful...to the back Neville. Everyone form a line." In the next two shots, first Neville heads to the back, then Malfoy shoves Neville to the side and Crabbe pushes the line of kids forward. Yet in the next shot from the front of the line, Neville already stands at the back of the line and then in the next shot, Neville walks towards the back of the line, where more kids are gathered now.
Continuity mistake: After Harry leaves the Dursleys, Sirius the dog shows up behind a park bench surrounded by dimly lit thick bushes. When the Knight Bus arrives, the bench is visible across the street and now it's brightly lit and the trash container beside the bench is clearly visible. Then, before Harry boards he has one more look at the bench and it is just as dark as the first shot.
Continuity mistake: As Lupin packs in his office, the gramophone and books on his desk are visible in many shots. When Harry first walks in, the set of three thin books, bound with a string at the top of one pile, as well as the gramophone and other books noticeably change their position in quite a few shots.
Continuity mistake: When Harry is facing the Boggart shaped as a clown, as Lupin says "Wonderful, wonderful" in the background, we can see Hermione standing right next to another girl behind Harry. But when it cuts to a wide shot from beside them we see Harry standing and we see Hermione standing behind him, but the girl next to her is nowhere in sight.
Continuity mistake: In the DADA class, when Lupin puts the needle on the horn gramophone disc to start the music, the position of his hand and the needle in the close-up differs greatly than in previous and following shots. Throughout the scene the gramophone and its horn's position differ in consecutive shots as well.
Continuity mistake: When they're having their first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson and Harry is facing the boggart, Lupin jumps in front of Harry because he thought it would turn into Voldemort, as he later states in the movie. But the boggart had already turned into a Dementor before Lupin makes a move.
Continuity mistake: When Harry lifts the lid in the Honeydukes cellar, in the first shot there are two gold pots, small and large, beside the table directly in front of him. Of course in the next shot, as the man climbs the stairs, only the short gold pot is beside that table. In the next shot, as Harry climbs out, the two pots' positions differ.
Continuity mistake: When Harry collapses next to Sirius after the Dementors have been repelled, the ground where his head lands is covered in fairly small stones. In the following overhead shot of Harry and Sirius, there are some much larger rocks next to his head, and a patch of dirt with no stones is visible to Harry's left, where stones were before.
Continuity mistake: At the start of Hagrid's lesson, he coughs and says, "Ta-daa!!" for all to see Buckbeak. In the next wide shot Goyle stands at the back and his hood and robe lie flat. In the next close-up Goyle's hood is positioned completely differently, then in the next wide shot it's flat again.
Continuity mistake: During Hagrid's lesson, when Harry walks towards Buckbeak as Hagrid explains to Harry that he needs to wait for Buckbeak to bow back, etc., in the next shot a boy on the left of the screen drops his cloak to the ground. In the next shot of the students, the boy has it on his arm again, but in the next shot as Harry bows, it's on the ground once again.
Continuity mistake: Before Hagrid's lesson begins, Malfoy yells, "Dementor! Dementor!" and they all spin around. Ron and Hermione stand beside one another in the first and third shots, yet in the middle shot facing Malfoy, they're a good distance apart. As a matter of fact, in most shots throughout this entire scene many of the students' positions and actions change and/or shift back and forth in consecutive shots, some quite drastically.
Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's, when Harry, Ron and Hermione visit the first time, the quilt lying on the chair changes position over and over again, from lying over the back of the chair, to being on the seat and so forth, until Hagrid takes it to cover his little creature.
Continuity mistake: The second time Harry conjures the patronus charm to save Sirius and the other Harry from the dementors, Hermione is standing next to the tree behind him. The first time he uses it, his silhouette can be seen from the other Harry's point-of-view from across the lake, but Hermione isn't next to the same tree, even though the spot she was standing in is visible.

Continuity mistake: When Marge floats out the patio door in the exterior shot her jacket lies flat over her skirt. In the next shot Vernon shouts, "I've got you Marge," as he grabs hold of her hands, and the bottom of her jacket is way up by her arms - note the blazer lining and her blouse. However, in the next shot the jacket lies straight and flat once again.
Continuity mistake: On the Hogwarts Express, Lupin pulls out his wand to repel the Dementor attacking Harry. In the shot facing Lupin his shirt sleeve is mostly covered by his suit sleeve and he holds the wand a particular way. In the next close-up facing the Dementor, Lupin's arm is visible and a much greater area of his shirt sleeve is now seen and he holds the wand completely differently.
Continuity mistake: When Hermione says, "Awful things happen to Wizards who meddle with time, we can't be seen," in the shot facing her she places her right elbow up on the pumpkin. In the next shot facing Harry her arm is down on her lap, yet in the next shot facing Hermione her arm is up again.
Visible crew/equipment: At the end of the film, when Harry enters Lupin's office, he walks past a cabinet full of skulls, saying "You've been sacked?" Reflected in the glass panel of the cabinet is a cameraman with equipment, moving along with the camera, a little above Harry. He's a little hard to see, but he's there!
Continuity mistake: When Snape is insulting Hermione on being a know-it-all while he is substituting for Lupin, he has a slide show running. The shot shows Hermione with the projector behind her. The projector now changes slides fully and stops moving. When the shot changed back to Snape, the slide is still changing. It could not be the next slide because the slide changes every few seconds.
Continuity mistake: In the boggart scene after Neville Longbottom has confronted the boggart, we can see that Ron is next, then Seamus Finnigan, then Parvati Patil. But after Ron's turn with the boggart, Prof. Lupin immediately calls out Parvati. Seamus never got a chance with the boggart even though he was right behind Ron.
Continuity mistake: When Marge is floating off into the air, in one shot we see Dudley leaning back in horror and suprise, and he brings his arms back, off of the table and to his side. Yet in the following shot his arms are back to laying on the table and he lifts them up off the table again, but doesn't bring them to his side (he just lifts them up into the air). Then in the next wide shot they are laying on the table again.
Continuity mistake: When Harry enters the room in the Leaky Cauldron that the Minister of Magic is in, Hedwig has arrived before him. The owl shown at the start of the scene is a white owl with many black spots on both its wings. However, when Harry leaves and Hedwig flies to his arm, this owl has very few spots at the edge of its wings and tail, obviously it's one of the other owls that portray Hedwig.
00:12:55 - 00:14:35
Continuity mistake: Outside Hagrid's when Cornelius Fudge says, "...shall be executed this day at sundown." you see Harry, Hermione and Ron hide behind some pumpkins. You can also see a crow standing on a pumpkin right in front of them. When it cuts from behind them that crow is gone.
Continuity mistake: At the Leaky Cauldron, after Harry takes off his sneaker, to distract the Monster Book of Monsters, he stands at the edge of the bed. In the wide shot, the very long ends of the shoelace dangle over his fingers at his knuckles, yet, in the next close-up, it's now the short ends that are held tightly in his fist, the opposite way.
Continuity mistake: The cart with the TV changes its position in various shots. For example, in the close-up of Marge's legs lifting off the ground and when Marge floats out the door in the exterior shot, the cart is aligned with the doorway, then at other times it is at the inner edge of the draperies or in between.
Audio problem: As Sirius, the dog, drags Ron towards the Whomping Willow, Hermione and Harry chase after them. When Sirius actually backs up into the hole below the tree trunk, Ron begins to shout, "Help!" In the next shot, as Harry starts to stretch his arms forward to dive down, Hermione runs behind him and visually she shouts Ron's name, though there is no sound heard.
Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's, after the jar breaks the first time, in the wide shot the toad is on the table, under the cracked pieces of jar, yet in the next close-up, the cracked pieces are gone and the toad is back on the blue plate. Later, when Hermione throws the stone, the toad is on the plate (which is farther from the jar now) as the jar breaks.

Continuity mistake: When everyone, except Harry, leaves to Hogsmeade village, Hermione is waving as she and Ron walk directly behind McGonagall, with the last of the crowd of children ahead of them still in the courtyard. There is a short cut facing Harry now standing IN the doorway. Then the next shot from behind Harry, shows Ron and Hermione still walking past the fountain, but now McGonagall and the entire crowd of children are out of the courtyard. They could not have walked away that fast.
Continuity mistake: When Hermione and the others are in Hagrid's hut, a rock with a swirl on it hits the pot. Later, when Hermione and Harry are reliving the scene from the exterior view, Hermione picks up the "same" rock to throw at the pot. The rock is different though, it has a bigger swirl on it.
01:24:55 - 01:51:15PoPEyE
Revealing mistake: In the scene at night, when Harry is in the hallway with the map, the tip of his wand lights up. And later in that same scene, when Snape has the conversation with Lupin and Harry, Snape's wand does the same. However, if you look closely at the shadows on their faces, they're being lit from above, not from the wands' light below them.
Continuity mistake: During the scene where Snape confronts Harry roaming the hallways at night with the Marauder's Map, the position of the pull strings hanging down from Harry's sweatshirt hood changes several times between shots. At first the strings are tangled together, but during later shots the strings are hanging down apart, then back to being tangled, then apart again. This happens once more when Prof. Lupin and Harry are talking immediately afterwards in the Dark Arts classroom.
Revealing mistake: In the Shrieking Shack, when Harry sends Snape flying into the bed, the canopy collapses in the stunt. In this shot the metal bars at the top of the canopy frame are visible, whereas in the following shots it is no longer there. The way the canopy frame actually hangs after stunt differs considerably and the draperies hanging on the bed differ in the shots prior, during and after the stunt.
Revealing mistake: At Hagrid's lesson, just after Malfoy wound Harry up, there is a close up on the class when they first see Buckbeak and you can see Emma Watson holding back a laugh. Surely if her friend was being picked on it wouldn't be funny, plus they're supposed to be scared of Buckbeak.
Continuity mistake: When Ron and Hermione are arguing about Crookshanks in the Leaky Cauldron, Sirius does not move in the 'wanted' poster. That same poster is visible when Harry first enters with Tom, and Sirius doesn't move in that shot either. However, when the poster is the focus of the shot, Sirius does move in the magical poster.
Continuity mistake: As everyone watches Aunt Marge start to soar up into the air while in the yard, the position of the white lace tablecloth, which hangs off the table at this point and the things upon it, differ in the exterior shot looking in towards the dining room and the following interior shot of the table.
Continuity mistake: When Potter points his wand at Uncle Vernon you can see his index finger on the wand. When it cuts his index finger is pulled back. [Harry has obviously jerked backward when Uncle Vernon approaches him -- Vernon is obviously closer in the second shot -- and it would be a natural reflex to withdraw his finger as well.]
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Hermione punches Malfoy in the face, she holds her wand to his neck with her right hand. The shot changes to her turning away and then she punches him - both her hands appear in the shot and her wand is gone. In the next shot she mysteriously has her wand in her left hand with no time to have dropped it then picked it up again.
Continuity mistake: When Harry gets his turn to face the Boggart in Lupin's class, there is a wide shot showing the large clown rocking back and forth (viewer's left to right), with Lupin in the background bent over looking down at the floor. But, in the next close-up, Lupin is not as bent and is suddenly facing clown, contemplating whether or not he should do what he does next.
Deliberate mistake: The wings of the hippogriff are much shorter when folded up than when flying. According to the animators, the wings would have to be huge to carry the weight of the hippogriff when flying, but so big that they would drag on the ground when folded up. So they deliberately made the wings shorter.
00:33:30 - 00:35:55sdgirl98
Continuity mistake: In the Leaky Cauldron, Harry stares out his room's window as a train passes. At the start of the next shot, as he walks toward the Monster Book of Monsters, the dresser to the left of the fireplace is visible. In the following shots the large water pitcher and wood box reach the edge of the dresser, whereas in the previous shot it is nowhere near.
Continuity mistake: When Aunt Marge is inflating and floating to the ceiling, she grabs the table cloth and continues going up and take the cloth with her. Then when one of her shirt buttons pops and hits Dudley you can see that the cloth is not moving but has slid across the table a bit. It cuts to a close up of Marge and the cloth does not move, it then moves to the wide shot of the whole table and the cloth continues to move. The other button pops, hitting Dudley again, and the cloth stops moving again.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Sirius lies at the lake and Harry kneels next to him, Sirius seems unconscious, then opens his eyes in terror as he sees the Dementors. However, in the very next shot, which shows the two from above, his eyes are suddenly closed and there's no sign of movement in his face. Too big a change, too fast.
01:38:45 - 01:42:50nightline
Continuity mistake: In the first scene when Harry and Sirius are by the lake, Harry sees someone conjure a Patronus on the other side; initially the silvery form of a stag is seen for quite awhile, then the circular light that broadens. However, after Harry and Hermione go back in time, as the shot faces Harry, he yells, "Expecto Patronum!" and immediately the wand emits circular light that magnifies and repels the Dementors.
01:44:05 - 02:01:00
Continuity mistake: In the shot where Hagrid is telling Harry, Ron and Hermione that Buckbeak is going to be executed, you see Hermione (in the background) turn her head away and put her hand on her hip. In the next shot, which is a reverse shot and shows the actors' backs, she is still looking at Hagrid with her hands by her sides.
Continuity mistake: Hagrid stands up and knocks over all of the glasses on his table at the beginning of the year. In the next shot, look to the left of Hagrid, between two candlesticks. A single glass is sitting upright on the table. In the next shot when Hagrid sits back down, none of the glasses are upright, but with the position the glass was in it should've been visible in this shot. (It's a bit hard to see, and it was spotted in widescreen.)
Other mistake: When Arthur takes Harry aside at the Leaky Cauldron, the moment before Arthur says, "There are some within the Ministry who would strongly discourage me from divulging what I'm about to reveal..." we can see the digital number "300" flash on the stone pillar to the right of the wanted poster. (This occurs only in the fullscreen version, as opposed to the widescreen version where the number "301" flashes underneath the poster, which is noted in another mistake).
Character mistake: When Arthur Weasley takes Harry aside in The Leaky Cauldron to warn him about Sirius Black, he says, "13 years ago, when you stopped.... You-Know-Who...Black lost everything." Harry is 13 yrs. old in Prisoner of Azkaban and was a 1 yr. old when he stopped Voldemort. Hence, Harry stopped Voldemort 12 yrs. ago, and not 13! Harry turns 11 just before school starts in Philosopher's Stone, turns 12 before school in Chamber of Secrets and turns 13 yrs. old before school in Prisoner of Azkaban. Just an aside, the last digit of Harry's age always coincides with Harry's year at Hogwarts. So, he's 13 in his 3rd year at Hogwarts, which is entitled Prisoner of Azkaban.
Other mistake: On the Dutch edition of the POA DVD, you can choose either English or Dutch audio. During Snape's werewolf lesson, he demands the students to "turn to page 394". On the Dutch audio version Snape demands "page 349" (considering the way in which the Dutch pronounce numbers an understandable mistake, but still a mistake), and it occurs each time Snape demands for this page. However, the Dutch subtitles oddly enough get the correct translation of the page number.
Continuity mistake: When Harry goes to the table to clean up Marge's broken glass and when he stands at the counter as Marge blows up, there is a large rug in the kitchen, under the center cart, whose edge reaches the counter stools. When Harry storms downstairs with his trunk, Petunia and Dudley stand at the kitchen doorway and the rug is gone - it would be visible if it was on floor. (Likewise, the rug was gone when Marge and Ripper arrived, but it could be presumed that the rug was laid out before their meal.)
00:03:50 - 00:06:40Super Grover
Other mistake: When Harry and Hermione travel back in time with the Time Turner, Hermione states that the time is 7:30, we then see them run to Hagrid's shack. As the camera passes through the clock on the castle, it shows the time is either 2:00 or 12:10. As well as this we are told that Buckbeak is to be executed at sundown, but he is executed in broad daylight, looking more like midday.
Continuity mistake: When Harry is meeting the boggart it before it turns to a side view look at the girl to the left of Hermione, she is laughing, it changes to the side view and she is just standing there. It happens with Lupin too - in the side view he is playing with his wand then it switches to him and he isn't.
