Corrected entry: When Homer leaves the orphanage the trees along the drive are in their October colours - yet just a bit farther on, the trees that should have autumn colours, are fully green. The first Fall Homer is away the season seems to go on and on with very little sign of leaf turning. It's also highly unlikely that anyone would be driving around much at night in a convertible at that time of year in Maine. It would be extremely uncomfortable.

Correction: Just because it's fall doesn't necessarily mean it's cold. Also, leaves turn at different intervals depending on a number of factors. Throughout the first part of the film, trees are turning.

Factual error: When Homer and Candy go to the movies, the theater has stadium seating. This seating style in theaters wasn't used until much later, not in the early 1940's, and certainly not in Maine.

Question: Is it ever revealed why Candy has the abortion? She is in a relationship with the baby's father, they both have jobs, etc. Is it because she doesn't want to raise the baby herself while he's at war?

Answer: She was not married to the baby's father, which would have been an absolute stigma at the time.
