Continuity mistake: In Art Huck's living room, after Pat Clark throws water into his face, we see the chair at Marlowe's feet. No one goes near it, but later in the scene it moves 45 degrees to the right and is facing Marlowe (1945 Version on DVD). (01:41:30)
Continuity mistake: When Art Huck and Lash Canino get out of his car there are three stickers on the windshield. Marlowe and Lauren Bacall take this car but in the close-up of them driving there are only two stickers on the window. (01:41:30 - 01:46:15)

Continuity mistake: When Canino gets out of his car there are no tire tracks because the dirt underneath has been raked smooth. Later, when Art Huck runs away after Marlowe shoots, we see the same spot and tire tracks now appear under the rear tire. (01:41:30 - 01:42:10)
Continuity mistake: After his car pulls up, Canino gets out and lights up a cigarette that he quickly throws to the ground when Lauren Bacal screams. Later, when Art Huck runs away after Marlowe shoots, we see that same spot again and the cigarette is now bent in half and in a different spot, almost under the car. (01:41:30)
Continuity mistake: Even though no one has gone near it, Lash Canino's steering wheel has been turned from the time he and Art Huck park next to the house to when he is shot by Marlowe. Not only is the shadow underneath different throughout the scene but the front wheels are turned all the way to the left after he's shot. (01:41:30 - 01:43:50)
Other mistake: Marlowe tells Lauren Bacall to start screaming in 20 seconds after he leaves the room, she does and Lash Canino is outside and hears her. He runs into the house and if you look closely the prop porch railing almost falls over as he runs by because the crew did not attach it properly. Later we see it again and it's attached properly. Continuity mistake: Before the altercation with Art Huck, Marlowe goes to his car to get his gun and we see that there's no shrubbery on the right of it. Later he hides behind his car as Lash Canino holds Lauren Bacall hostage and there's a tree right next to him. (01:41:40 - 01:43:10)
Other mistake: Marlowe fires several shots at Art Huck and Lash Canino but if you look at the chamber when he takes the gun out from under the dashboard, there are no bullets in it. (01:41:45)
Continuity mistake: Marlowe goes to get his gun and opens the driver's side door of his car and there is no vent window. In the next shot as he closes his car door, a vent window now appears. (01:41:45)
Continuity mistake: In Art Huck's living room, Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall, "He'll beat my teeth out then kick me in my stomach for mumbling". The rope and knot tied around his chest change between shots (1945 Version on DVD). (01:42:00)
Continuity mistake: As they talk in Art Huck's living room, Lauren Bacall's cigarette has a nice long ash on it but in the next shot, when she puts it in Marlowe's mouth, there's no ash (1945 Version on DVD). (01:42:05)
Continuity mistake: There's a crooked sixth rail on Art Huck's porch that we see up close as he jumps over it when Marlowe shoots at him. Later when Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall ," we'll have to take his car" we see the railing again and it has been set straight. (01:42:10 - 01:43:40)
Continuity mistake: Art Huck runs away after Marlowe fires a warning shot at him coming out of the house. Marlowe watches him as he runs away but looks in the wrong direction behind his car instead of to the front left where we see him running. (01:42:15)
Continuity mistake: As he sits tied up by the couch, Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall, "Take this thing out of my mouth," and his entire face is wet with the water that Pat Clark threw on him. In the next shot as she takes the cigarette out of his mouth before they kiss, his face is almost dry (1945 Version on DVD). (01:42:15)
Continuity mistake: Lash Canino's right arm is extended out in front of him as he shoots at Marlowe's car. In the next shot his elbow is at a 45-degree angle as Marlowe confronts him. (01:43:15)
Continuity mistake: Lauren Bacall's not pointing anywhere near the car when she shouts, " there, there, behind the wheel" in order to distract Lash Canino. He eventually shoots at the right spot anyway as he tries to kill Marlowe. (01:43:15)
