Mr. Deeds

Continuity mistake: During the scene in which the homeless character portrayed by Steve Buscemi is having a conversation with Longfellow, he is eating a slice of his favourite pizza; French Fries & Oreos. In shot in the scene Buscemi takes a bite out of the slice of pizza, and there is one Oreo on the slice, toward the front of it. Then the shot goes to Longfellow for a moment, and in the next shot of Buscemi, the Oreo is suddenly at the other end of the slice. The Oreo continues moving from the front to the back of the slice throughout the scene. (00:11:25)

Continuity mistake: The most flame retardant box of cereal ever! When Deeds saves the woman from the burning building, there is a box of cereal next to the window that is on fire, and only on fire at the top of the box. The scene takes three or four minutes, yet through it all the fire never spreads to the rest of the box or dies out. The top just keeps on burning. Product placement, methinks... Continuity mistake: In the scene at Madison Square Garden basketball arena, when Deeds is going to propose to Pam during a romantic dinner, the candles on the table constantly change lengths. At one point one of the candles appears to be half the size of the other, but later it is mysteriously longer and almost the same size. The candles should gradually grow shorter during the scene, not longer.

Trivia: Sticking with the To Kill A Mockingbird references, in the scene where Deeds and Pam are outside of Pam's "apartment" and the old lady and dog walk out. She calls the lady "Mrs. Finch" and the dog "Atticus". Atticus Finch was the main characters name in To Kill A Mockingbird.

Question: What does Babe mean when she says "our sense of ironic detachment" (stating that Deeds doesn't share it)?

Answer: Irony is basically the opposite of expectation, whether it be intentional or not. Ex. A children's party clown is diagnosed with clinical depression - ironic, because that's the opposite of what you'd expect. People who are purposely ironic are often that way because they either are overly pretentious or just don't care. Detachment is typically being purposely removed, overly objective or aloof from a situation or even life in general. Ex. A jaded individual who doesn't like to do things most people enjoy because he finds it tedious or pointless. In this context, it appears Babe is trying to imply that as glorified gossip-pushers, she and her boss are badly disconnected from the norm and are jaded, to the point they generally no longer actually care about people or stories - they're just in it for money and exposure. Whereas Deeds is a genuinely good guy who doesn't buy into this way of thinking/living.
