The New Guy
The New Guy mistake picture

Continuity mistake: During the General Patton speech before the football game, "Gill Harris" approaches a player wearing the number 19 on his jersey, who is black. During the football game you notice the player wearing number 19 on his jersey is now white. (00:45:45 - 00:47:00)

Continuity mistake: During the football game between Rocky Creek and Highland, when Rocky Creek hikes the ball and pinches it back, he is distracted and doesn't catch it. A player from Highland picks it up and runs for the touchdown. When one highland player is hitting a rocky creek player, in the bottom left corner of the screen, you see the ball mysteriously rolling on the ground. Then the next shot shows the same guy who picked up the ball making a touchdown. Two balls for one football game? (01:10:00)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Gil has knocked out Connor and is trying to get the whole school to see it, he lifts him up against the wall where Connor falls into the trophy case, breaking the glass. Later on in the scene, when the principal comes out, they show the trophy case, but no broken glass. (00:27:40 - 00:28:45)

Factual error: In the big football scene we see the very short student playing the tuba. The music he is playing requires the use of the valves on the tuba, but his fingers never move. (01:07:55)

Revealing mistake: When Gil is looking at the "Blip Abuse Continues" article, you can see the same paragraph repeated many times. (00:55:15)

Continuity mistake: When Gil shows the band the yearbook up close, Courtney's photo differs from the wideshot of the yearbook. Also, in the close-up there are two guys on her left and right, but in the wideshot the one on the right is now at the top left corner of the page. (00:32:30)

Plot hole: When Diz is called into the Principal's office following the first game, he is questioned about the homecoming, which is scheduled in two weeks. In that two weeks, the football team goes through a whole season, including the state championship. When do they have time for school? (00:52:25)

Continuity mistake: When Dizzy is at the mall (right before he goes to preach about sexual abstinence) he is talking through the fish tank. The UFO looking thing is going up and down in the water. If you pay attention to where it is in shot by shot you'll notice that sometimes it's going up and then when its to all the way to the top the next shot it's at the bottom going up again. (00:08:20)

Continuity mistake: The Principal says that the Homecoming Dance is in a month or so, but in the next scene, Diz tells his band friends that they are booked to play the Homecoming Dance in two weeks.

Visible crew/equipment: When Gil (Dizzy) falls off of the roof at the party, a blue mat is visible on the right of the screen. (00:36:40)

Visible crew/equipment: When the bully has cotton wool in his nose by the school bus and is asked how his nose is, you can see the reflection of the camera moving along in the bus windows. Towards the end of that scene, a crew member can be seen behind on the bottom of the hill through one of the bus windows.

Continuity mistake: When Danielle goes to Gil to tell him she wants to use him, the Red Bull he is drinking with his lunch disappears and when she leaves she turns to look back at Gil for a second and the can is now on the ground. (00:42:25)

Visible crew/equipment: Throughout the film when there are close-ups of football players, in their helmets crew members and stage lights can be seen reflected.

Continuity mistake: When Connor rolls Ed Little down the hill in the garbage can, the first shot shows his legs flying out. In the next shots, his legs are completely inside the can. A person rolling like that would have their legs pushed out of the can, not in. (00:56:10)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Dizzy is playing with his band after the first day at Highland, they get finished playing and they are talking about Dizzy's day. You can clearly see the guitar strap is still on Dizzy's shoulder when he is talking. The shot goes from Dizzy to that girl and back to Dizzy and the strap isn't there any more.

Plot hole: At the party when Dizzy gives his wallet to a couple of guys so they can see the picture of him and his 'girlfriend' he never gets his wallet back from them. He gets on his motorcycle and leaves. (00:38:05)

Other mistake: During the scene with the principal in the bathroom there is a shot right after the principal lifts both of his legs where you can see that he is wearing underwear (briefs). (00:15:30)

Plot hole: When Gil was riding on the bike as it was tied up to the car by rope, leaving the party, his friends slammed on brakes, causing Gil to fly forward over the car onto the windshield. After he said, "I almost got laid", music came on and it appeared through the window they started driving again. If they had driven away, the bike tied up would've been making noises. They showed no interest in the bike still dragging behind them.

Eddie Griffin: You know, high school's a lot like prison. Bad food, high fences. The sex you want you ain't gettin', and the sex you getting you don't want.

Question: Towards the end, just after we find out the Eliza Dushku changed herself a bit too, after she says "no kidding" to Dizzy, what does he say? I can't make it out, and that line's not subtitled on the DVD.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: He says "I owe you one" in Albanian, like Eliza's character did earlier in the movie.
