A View to a Kill

Continuity mistake: When Bond listens to the cassette of the conversation between Zorin and Bob Conley at the dock warehouse, it is a completely different conversation to the one heard at the warehouse. (01:00:00)

Continuity mistake: When Scarpine knocks out Bond, he pushes him into the back of the Rolls-Royce, and he lies on his back unconscious next to Tibbett. However, when Zorin and May Day drive the Rolls-Royce to the river, the 'unconscious' Bond has now managed to sit himself up on his seat. (00:50:40)

Continuity mistake: When Zorin is trying to break into the shed where Bond is, just after he's worked out what time high tide is, the door rattles, dropping a hard hat onto the ground, but leaving a red/yellow light/reflector hanging, quite securely. The door lock is also pointing down and right. A couple of shots later, without the door being rattled forcibly again, there's nothing hanging behind it, and the door lock is pointing right. Continuity mistake: After Bond gets down from the Eiffel Tower to chase May Day, he steals a car. While Bond is driving down the stairs, you can clearly see a red sticker or decal on the right side of the car. After the car is cut in half, it is not there. (00:19:05 - 00:20:00)

Continuity mistake: When the bearded security guard attempts to punch Bond in Zorin's warehouse, Bond moves out of the way and the guard makes a hole in the crate. In the next shot, when several crates fall on the guard knocking him out, Bond has suddenly disappeared, and the hole in the crate that the guard has made is bigger than it was. (00:38:45)

Continuity mistake: Zorin supposedly falls from the top of a pillar of the Golden Gate Bridge, however 2 seconds after falling he is below the road. This is not possible as the drop is too great. Even taking into account of Zorin accelerating. (02:00:00)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is using the tyre valve to breathe underwater, "Michelin" is spelled out in white on the tire but all previous shots of the car show blackwall tyres. (00:51:35)

Continuity mistake: When Bond says "Well, it's not mutual." to Max Zorin outside the Rolls Royce, Zorin is standing right in front of him. In the next shot, Zorin has suddenly moved away from Bond and Scarpine is now in front of Bond. (00:49:50)

Continuity mistake: When M calls Moneypenny and Bond, there's a closeup on the intercom and James is holding her hat behind it but in the next shot, he is further from the intercom. (00:09:50)

Continuity mistake: During the fight between Bond and Zorin on the Golden Gate Bridge, Zorin's shoes alternate between grey slip-on loafers (worn by actor Christopher Walken) and grey trainers (worn by Walken's stunt double). (01:59:45)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is knocked off the snowmobile near the beginning, he falls face down next to the snowmobile skid, not moving. After a brief cut away, we then see him lifting himself up from a face-up sitting position. He's had no time to move himself that way. (00:03:05)

Continuity mistake: When the thug is knocked through the bannister he grabs the chandelier with two hands next to each other. As we see him swinging a second later his hands are spread apart. (01:13:05)

Continuity mistake: When Bond mingles at the party to use his glasses to see in the window the curtains are open. When he goes into Zorin's office to open the desk drawer, the curtains are closed. (00:28:40 - 00:29:45)

Continuity mistake: After Bond and Stacey escape the fire at San Francisco City Hall, Bond is confronted by a police chief and he sprays him with water from the fire truck, but when the chief is in his car pursuing Bond through San Francisco, he appears completely dry. (01:30:10)

Continuity mistake: When Bond grabs Stacey after the Zorin Airship blows up, you can see the fireaxe resting between them. The camera shot changes to one above them and the fireaxe has now gone. (02:01:00)

Suggested correction: The axe isn't gone. What's happened is the handle is hiding behind Bond's foot. The red head of the axe simply blends into the paintwork of the bridge and given the distance of the shot it's hard to spot.

Continuity mistake: When Zorin's men attacks Stacey's house, she throws a jar at one of them. A huge part stays on his head and he doesn't remove it when he escapes with the other. When Stacey is taking the broken parts on the floor, you can see that same huge part. At the place it is on the floor, the man had to put it gently on the floor, something he didn't. (01:13:40)

Suggested correction: Actually, you do see this just as the thugs are escaping you see him take it off his head.

Continuity mistake: Near the end of the film when Bond and Mayday are trapped in the water rushing into the mine, her hairdo is totally drenched when her entire head is submerged and her wet, straightened hair falls onto her forehead. The next scene, when they are walking through the water and debris, her hair is beautifully sculpted as it has been through the entire film. (01:54:20)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is speaking to Dr. Mortner at Zorin's reception, the same clip of Bond using his 'ring camera' to take a picture is re-used from earlier. You can tell because Bond is not holding a champagne glass at the time he takes the picture, but there is a champagne glass in his hand in the shot. (00:31:40)

Continuity mistake: After the riders have jumped the water jump in the steeplechase scene, Bond is joined by a group of Zorin's exercise boys. You can see that a rider with a dark green helmet is positioned a few yards ahead of Bond, but in the next scene he is next to Bond and attacking him. (00:48:05)

Continuity mistake: When Bond chases May Day up the Eiffel Tower, she throws the fishing rod at him and the wire wraps around his legs. As he falls down he has the gun in his hand. The next shot his hands are free and he is untying the wire. The next shot he has the gun in his hand. At no point does he put the gun down and pick it up. (00:17:40)

Trivia: When Grace Jones screams during the mine sequence, when sparks fly around her, her screams are for real. Jones did not know that the electric cables around her would go off as a special effect for the scene.

Question: This is a two part question. When Zorin is flying over the mine in his zeppelin, he sees Mayday coming out of the mine with the bomb, and looks really shocked when it blows up, killing her in the process. But a few scenes before, he was quite happy to just leave her to drown in the flooding mine, so did he really love her and was just shocked that she had killed herself or was it shock because she removed the bomb from the mine and ruined his plan? I'm asking since Mayday tells Bond that Zorin told her he loved her (when they're both trying to escape from drowning in the flooding mine), so was Zorin lying to her or did he actually love her?

Heather Benton

Chosen answer: Zorin is a psychopath. He may have meant it when he told May Day he loved her, or he may have just been telling her what she wanted to hear. Either way, when he thinks she'll drown in the mine as well, he doesn't consider it worth scrapping the plan just to save her. Once she escapes and has the bomb, he looks shocked partially because she wasn't killed but mostly because she's chosen to sacrifice herself to thwart his plans, something that a self-interested psychotic personality can't comprehend.
