Continuity mistake: In the 'Gaston' song sequence, near the end, Gaston is sitting in his huge antler chair with Lefou. In the wide shot, there is a bear rug behind the chair. The camera does a close up of Gaston, then in the next wide shot, the chair is on top of the bear rug. Also, after this, Gaston gets up off of the chair and in the next shot, both the chair and the rug disappear completely.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after the wolf attack, Belle is trying to put a cloth to the Beast's wounds, and they then shout at each other. When the Beast yells "Well you shouldn't have been in the West Wing," you can see that he has three slashes on his arm. Then when Belle puts the cloth on the wounds, there are suddenly four slashes.
Continuity mistake: After the wolf attack, it fades to a shot of Belle who is pouring hot water out of Mrs. Potts, into a bowl. In this shot Belle is kneeling on the large white decorative design embroidered on the large red rug, and the little bowl also sits on the design too. Then when it cuts, Belle is suddenly kneeling on the red part of the rug and the bowl sits on the red part too, and the Beasts chair is now sitting atop the large white design.
Continuity mistake: In the newer version of the film, there has been a new song called "Human Again" added. When standing at the foot of the stairs, Cogsworth replaces a cog in himself, opening his door, with the hinges on his right. All the other times he opens it though, the hinges are on the left.
Continuity mistake: When Gastons mob throw Belle and Maurice into the cellar, Belle then tries to wedge open the window with a long wooden pole. She fails, then turns to Maurice, leaving the pole sticking out and laying on the windowsill. Then when the shot changes and the camera pans to Chip looking through the window, the wooden pole has gone.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after Gaston proposes to Belle, Belle walks out of the door and then to the barn. As she passes the cellar doors, saying "...Me. The wife of that borish, brainless...", you can see that there is a small window either side of the cellar doors. However, later on into the film, when Maurice and Belle are trapped in the cellar, Chip gets Maurices invention to work. Then, as the machine hurtles towards the cellar doors, the small window on the left side of the cellar doors has vanished!

Continuity mistake: During the 'Gaston' song in the tavern, Gaston spits out a bit of belt which knocks a pot onto Le Fou's head, which gets stuck. When the pot strikes him and he falls to the floor, you can see there is no metal pole running across the bottom of the bar. In every other shot of the bar, there is a metal pole which runs across the bottom of it.
Continuity mistake: When Belle is trying to get up the stairs to the West Wing, and Cogsworth and Lumiere are trying to stop her, when Belle says "You have a library", you can see that Belle is standing six steps up from the foot of the stairs, and that Lumiere and Cogsworth are standing on the seventh step up from the foot. However when it then cuts, and they all start to climb back down the stairs, Belle is now on the third step up from the foot and Cogsworth and Lumiere are on the fourth.
Deliberate mistake: At the end of the film, Gaston shoots the Beast with an arrow and pushes the Beast out the window. When the Beast lands on the edge of the castle rooftop, the arrow has disappeared. Even if part of the arrow has broken off, a piece of it would still be in his back. [This, like many other incidents in the film, is a longtime Disney animated tradition. The company seems to believe that violence is less unpleasant if all evidence of it disappears quickly. This is why so many cuts seem to disappear or become less serious. The arrow vanishing is just another example.]
Continuity mistake: In the scene where the Beast gives Belle the library, the Beast is wearing a white long-sleeved shirt. When the shot changes to wider view of the Beast and Belle with Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip in the foreground, look carefully at the Beast. As he holds hands outwards with Belle, the white sleeves are gone.
Continuity mistake: When Belle jumps off the horse-drawn carriage and goes into the bookshop, the bookshop window consists of four glass panels alligned in vertical columns. However when Belle leaves the bookshop, the window has suddenly changed to consisting of three glass panels alligned in vertical columns.
Continuity mistake: When Belle lets Mrs. Potts in, she then walks backwards into the wardrobe, and you can clearly see the wall from the bed to the corner is made up of three large purple wall panels. However in a later shot, when the wardrobe opens her doors and the moths flutter out, the wall is now made up of four purple panels. The design on the panels differs too.

Audio problem: During the fight scene at the end, Gaston says, "It's over, Beast. Belle is mine." But, originally, Gaston said "time to die" instead of "Belle is mine." (They wanted to involve Belle more in this scene, and decided to simply overdub the line). Unfortunately, you can tell what's been done, for Gaston's lips still say "time to die."
Add timeMovie_Freak 1
Continuity mistake: When Lumiere and Cogsworth are trying to persuade Belle not to go up the stairs to the West Wing, they start suggesting other places to go. When Lumiere says "..the gardens, or the library.." you can see that Cogsworth, Lumiere and Belle are all standing on the same step. Then when it cuts, Belle is standing on the step below Lumiere and Cogsworth.
Continuity mistake: Gaston wears a quiver in the scenes where he is after the Beast, and the brown quiver strap runs across his body over his red shirt. After Gaston stabs the Beast with his knife, the brown strap and quiver is still on. However it then cuts, and as he starts to fall, the brown strap of the quiver has gone. Then in the next shot the strap is back on, over his red shirt.
Continuity mistake: During 'Belle', we see Belle sit beside the fountain in an overhead shot, and there is a woman washing a white sheet in the water, with nothing beside her. Then it cuts to a closer view of Belle and you can now see a blue basket of white sheets on the floor beside the washing woman.
Continuity mistake: After the Beast is stabbed, and is on the floor dying, Belle is at his side comforting him. In one shot her hand is stroking the left side of his face. It cuts and suddenly her hand is on the right side of his face. Then a few shots later, she puts her left hand on the right side of his face, but when the shot changes her hand is back to her side.
Continuity mistake: In the newer version of the film, there has been a new song called "Human Again" added. When the little dog-like footrest runs across the hallway, chasing the cat-like cushion, he leaves black footprints all over the floor, and then he skids to a halt, leaving circular swerve marks over part of the floor. However when it cuts to an overhead shot, the line of footprints along the floor runs much shorter and there are now more sets of swerve marks.
Continuity mistake: During the film's introduction, as the camera pans away from the castle during the storm, there is a crack of thunder and a lightning flash. As the lightning strikes you can see a black branch growing on the side of the castle/cliff disappears after the flash of lighting. The animators forgot to draw it, so it just vanishes.
Continuity mistake: As Belle is walking through the bustling market whilst reading her book, and Gaston is following her, and we hear the lines "Good Day" "Bonjour" "You call this bacon" "What lovely grapes", Belle has no basket hanging from either arm, clearly visible in a behind shot of her walking. It then returns in the beautiful closeup, when the camera pans around with her and she sings, with outstreched arms, "There must be more than this provincial life."
Continuity mistake: At the end of the 'Something There' song, Belle is sitting at the fireplace and Beast hangs her coat up on a stand. Next to the coatstand you can see a bookcase with a statue on top of it. However when it suddenly cuts to Cogworth and Mrs. Potts, who are watching them from the doorway, still singing, the coatstand, bookcase and statue have all vanished.
Continuity mistake: In the slightly changed version with the song 'Human Again' added, when Cogworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip etc. are talking about there being "Something there that wasn't there before...", just after the "Something There" song, In this scene Chip's chip is in the left side of his cup. It is meant to be in the right.
Continuity mistake: When Maurice is being chased by the wolves, he runs up to the gates of the Beast's castle and grabs the bars. You can see in a wideshot that he is holding the bars around the area of the patterned strip of the gate. However when it cuts to a closer view, and he pushes the gates open, he isn't holding the patterned strip of the gate, but just the normal bars.
Continuity mistake: When Lumiere and Belle go into the dining room before the 'Be our Guest' song, in a wide shot when Lumiere says "Ma chere mademoiselle," you can see by the left wall there is a stone statue of a bird. However when it cuts to the following closeup of him, the statue has gone.
Continuity mistake: When Gaston comes to Belle's house to propose to her, you can notice that he leaves the door open, but when he backs Belle against it, the door has magically shut. It is definitely the same door - note the items surrounding the door, and the door itself are all the same.

Continuity mistake: After Belle lets Mrs. Potts in and walks backwards into the wardrobe, the panelled wall is bare. Then in a later wide shot when the wardrobe says "We all think so." there is a wall candelabra in between two panels which then disappears again later, when the wardrobe opens her doors and the moths flutter out.

Continuity mistake: When Belle is in her bedroom at the castle for the first time, Mrs Potts and Chip come in to give Belle a cup of tea. There is tea in Chip when Belle drinks but as the camera closes in on Chip there is no tea. Then as Chip bounces out of the door tea comes spilling out.
Continuity mistake: The settings and conditions of the West Wing change drastically. For instance, in the beginning, the painting is very close to the rose and there's also a red carpet underneath it, but later the painting is further from the rose and the red carpet disappears. When Belle leaves the room after the Beast releases her, there are red decorations on the floor in front of the door which were not there earlier when the Beast burst in after Belle refused to go to dinner with him. There is usually a lot of junk cluttered in the West Wing, but when the Beast takes a bath it looks much cleaner. It's an almost endless list.
Continuity mistake: When Maurice gets his woodcutter working in the cellar, the axe starts cutting a log which is in a wooden bench, which sits in front of the woodcutter. However when Belle entered the cellar earlier, through the clouds of dust, the area in front of the woodcutter was empty.

Continuity mistake: When Maurices invention explodes, Belle runs to the house and into the cellar. As she enters, you can see the area in front and around the stove/fireplace is empty. However after talking for a while, Belle says "...oh Papa, he's not for me" and sits down on a wooden stool which has suddenly appeared in front of the stove/fireplace.

Continuity mistake: When Gaston falls out of Belle's house when she opens the door suddenly, Gaston lands in the pig pen. He gets up, grabs his friend, throws him in the mud, then walks away. In the background you see Belle's house. How could he fall down the stairs and what looks like over 20 feet away into the pig pen?
Continuity mistake: Just before the new "Human Again" song, Cogsworth is telling the other servants what to do. He is standing on the dog/footstool and tells everyone to clean up the castle. All the servants run off including the dog/footstool and Cogsworth falls down the stairs. A load of cogs fall out of him and Lumiere picks one up. It is quite small but as he dusts it off it grows and when he hands it to Cogsworth and it has grown in size again to over double the size it was when it first fell out of him.

Continuity mistake: When Mrs. Potts, Chip and the milk and sugar pot enter Belle's bedroom, they make some tea in Chip, who then hops over to Belle. After they pour and make the tea in Chip, as he hops off, in a closeup you can see the milk pot is standing beside Mrs. Potts and the sugar pot is next to the milk pot. Then when it cuts to a wider view, the milk and sugar pot have swapped places with each other.
Continuity mistake: The large front doors to the castle open inwards, as seen when Maurice and Belle enter the castle for their first time. However when Belle makes her deal with the Beast, to stay with him forever, the Beast takes Maurice outside, however he opens the doors outwards.
00:13:05 - 00:23:05Hamster
Continuity mistake: When Maurice is gathering his belongings and says, "Somehow I'll get her out of there.", to the side of the door there is an umbrella and a coat hanging slightly to the right of it. However, when Gaston bursts in, shouting, "Belle? Maurice?" the coat is now hanging directly over the umbrella.
Continuity mistake: When the Beast shows Belle her room, she walks in, and in the wideshot when the Beast says "Now if you need anything...", you can see the whole tiled floor around and under the bed is bare. Then seconds later when Belle runs to her bed crying, and the camera pans out the window, there is a large rug on the previously bare floor.
Continuity mistake: When Maurice is getting ready to go back to find Belle, and is pocketing compasses and rolls of paper, he takes a scarf from a drawer, leaving the drawer pulled open, with a red scarf hanging out of it. Then when Gaston and Le Fou enter the house, the drawer is pushed shut with no red scarf hanging out.
Continuity mistake: When Belle and the Beast eat breakfast, in the scene where the Beast gets covered in porridge, in front of Belle is a decorated glass and a basket of rolls with a napkin over the top. In front of the Beast is just a decorated glass. During shots we see neither one, nor anyone else touch these items. However in the final shot of the whole table, in which Belle and the Beast raise up their bowls, the basket of rolls and the Beasts glass have both disappeared.
Continuity mistake: Adding to the mistake about the bear rug moving around, it also changes physical form. Sometimes it is a light brown, fat and un-realistic looking. Other times it can be seen as a dark brown/black flat bear which looks very real. This change occurs many times during the scene.
Continuity mistake: Whilst Maurice sits in the Masters chair, Cogsworth is knocked down by the trolley with Mrs. Potts on it, and he falls down on the large red part of the carpet. It then cuts to Mrs. Potts, then back to Cogsworth who is still lying down, however now he's suddenly lying on the white part of the rug.
Continuity mistake: When Maurice is taking his invention to the fair, there is a covering over the machine with a brown patch on it. But in the shot where Maurice says "It's a shortcut, Phillipe", the patch is now white. Also, when Phillipe comes back to the house later, and Belle takes the machine off him, the patch has disappeared.
Continuity mistake: In the newer version on VHS by Disney, including the song 'Human Again', that added scene completely messes with the movie. During the scene the servants clean up the castle and make it pretty and happy. However, when it switches back to the scenes from the original movie, the outside of the castle is no longer clean until the end of the movie and the spell is broken.
Continuity mistake: When Gaston flies into the muddy pond, Le Fou walks to the edge of the bank and right by the bank is a large bush of long green reeds. However when it cuts to a closeup of Le Fou saying "So, how'd it go?", the reeds have vanished. Reeds also apppear in the background, around the pond.
Continuity mistake: When the trolley cart comes screeching through the lounge and knocks Cogsworth down, you see that Mrs. Potts, Chip and the milk and sugar pot are on the cart. Then when it cuts, and the trolley screeches to a halt beside Maurice, who's sitting down, the milk and the sugar pot have vanished from the trolley. In addition, after Maurice takes a sip out of Chip the teacup, in the following shot of the trolley, a spoon has appeared on it.
Continuity mistake: When the Beast first shows Belle into her room, when he leaves you can see the doors have a curvy, spirally pattern which leads down the them. But when Belle is up in her room crying and Mrs. Potts comes to her door, Belle then approachs the door and we see the design on the door is now two large squares. However in the following shot of Mrs. Potts entering, saying "I thought you might like a spot of tea", the design has changed back to the curvy, spirally pattern.

Continuity mistake: After the scene when Gaston is talking to the Asylum-keeper, it then cuts to a wide view of Belle and Maurices house. There is clearly no snow by the wall of the stairs or on top of the water turbine. Then when Gaston and Le Fou search for Maurice and Belle and find the house empty, they leave, and then Gaston throws Le Fou into a large pile of snow by the wall, and there is also a very large pile of snow sitting on the water turbine, which has magically appeared, without it snowing.
Continuity mistake: When Belle opens the bedroom door for Mrs. Potts and Chip, in the close-up the bottom corners of the doors are aligned perfectly with the edge of the floor tiles, when both doors are closed. Later, when Cogsworth comes in to announce dinner, the bottom corners of the doors are above the center of the tile, when the doors are closed. This should never change.
00:30:15 - 00:31:20Super Grover
Continuity mistake: It is said that the magical rose will start to wither until the Beast's 21st birthday, and in the song 'Be our Guest', everyone sings "It's ten years since we've had anybody here, and we're obsessed". So that would make the Beast only 11 years old when he turned away the Enchantress that put a spell on him, however he is portrayed as being much older-looking.
Continuity mistake: Cogsworth's height as a human keeps changing in the final minute or so of the film. For instance, when he first transforms from a clock into a man, he comes up to about half of Lumiere's head, but when they argue, Cogsworth is taller than that. Then in the last shot, as it zooms out as Belle and the prince are dancing, he doesn't even come up to Lumiere's shoulders.
Continuity mistake: When the Beast briefly dies at the end of the film, before being turned human, Belle cries and lays down on his chest, with her head resting on his red cape and her hand clutching it. However when it cuts to a closeup, Belle's head is suddenly resting further down, on his white shirt, and she is clutching the shirt now too instead of the cape.
Continuity mistake: In the kitchen, the stove says "I work and I slave all day long, and for what?" and the stone wall behind him is bare. Then when it cuts to a close-up of him saying "A culinary masterpiece gone to waste," two shelves have suddenly appeared on the wall behind him, with pots, pans and utensils on them!
Continuity mistake: Chip the teacup has his chip in the right side of the cup. However in the scene when Belle and the Beast are eating porridge, the Beast slurps his porridge, getting it all over himself, and it then cuts to Mrs. Potts and Chip turning to look at Belle, however in this shot Chip's chip is on the left side of the cup.
Continuity mistake: When Gaston climbs out of the muddy puddle, he storms off, and it shows Belle's house in a wideshot, with the stone walls surrounding the porch with nothing on them. Then it cuts to a closeup of Belle emerging from the door, but now there's a bucket of seed, and some chickens on the walls.
Deliberate mistake: During the Gaston song in the tavern, Gaston is wearing a pull over shirt with no buttons in front. At one point in the song he rips open his shirt to show off the hair on his chest. The very next second, however, his shirt is back to normal. The shirt is not ripped or disheveled, and it is completely unscathed as if it had never been ripped open or torn apart.
Continuity mistake: Outside Belle's house there is a wishing well situated on the grass directly in front of the window and cellar doors, plainly seen in the initial shot of Belle leaving her home to go to town. However in the scene where Chip gets Maurices woodcutter going, as it hurtles towards the cellar doors in a wideshot, the wishing well has vanished!!

Continuity mistake: When the Beast discovers Belle in the West Wing, he starts yelling at her, and she backs into an old, rotting cupboard that sports many patterns and designs on it. Then when the shot changes the cupboard is suddenly new-looking and in good shape and has no patterns on it at all.
Continuity mistake: When the Beast bursts into the West Wing after Belle refuses to go to dinner with him, he grabs the magic mirror, sees Belle, and puts it back down again. Then another petal falls from the rose, but notice that the petals on the table are in a different position than they were in the previous shot.
Continuity mistake: In the tavern, which is the setting for the 'Gaston' song, right at the end of the bar there is a thick wooden beam attached to the bar and the ceiling. You can see this beam clearly when Le Fou sings "No-one's slick as Gaston...", and he prances around and then grabs the beam. However, right at the end of the Gaston song when they sing "So his marriage we soon will be celebrating...", the camera pans backwards out to the window, but the wooden beam has vanished.
00:26:00 - 00:29:45Hamster
Continuity mistake: In the very short scene where the Beast throws Maurice into the machine and it carries him away, the front entrance of the castle is utterly different from normal. For instance, normally there are no stairs leading up to the castle, the statues on either sides of the doors are different, the walls next to the entrance are shaped differently, and so on.
Continuity mistake: There is a scene with Belle and Beast dining. Beast wolfs down his meal out of the dish and his face is covered with food. Belle looks shocked, so Beast then tries to use a spoon and he is completely clean. Belle smiles sympathetically and Beast is covered with food in the next shot. When they are both eating directly from the bowl, Beast is clean again. It is the same meal. The food is missing from his face, although not an uncommon thing for animators (especially of kids films) to do on purpose, Disney probably wouldn't consider it a mistake, but rather, a convention, to make the characters always look their best.
Continuity mistake: When Belle meets Mrs Potts for the first time, Belle approaches the door to let her in. In the shot of Belle walking toward the door, the door handles are both the vertical "thumb-button" latch that you would grip the handle and push down on the thumb piece (with your thumb, of course) to release the latch. But in the next shot when she opens the door (and when she is first shown her room), the door handles are diagonal "lever style" handles that you have to turn downward with your whole hand to open the door.
Continuity mistake: When we first meet the three blonde triplets, the one in the green dress has the Ariel-like bangs, but in the beginning of the Gaston song she has swapped hairstyles with her sister in the orange dress. When Gaston starts singing about eating eggs they switch back, but during the last shot of the song they're both sporting the red sister's hair.
Factual error: After Gaston stabs the Beast in the fight sequence, there is no blood shown on the knife. [This is a longstanding Disney animation tradition. The House of Mouse seems to believe that onscreen violence is less traumatic if all evidence of it disappears quickly. Thus, you rarely see blood and when it IS seen it's usually minor, even if the wound isn't minor.]
Continuity mistake: When Cogsworth comes into the study to say that Belle isn't coming for dinner, he opens the door inward and doesn't shut it. In the next shot of the doors from the hallway, though, the doors are closed, and the Beast opens both doors outward. They aren't double-swing doors like the kitchen ones.
Plot hole: Early in the film, we see the enchanted rose, and then the camera zooms away from the Beast's room and the castle. We see that there are several aspects of the castle that change during the Beast's fight with Gaston. For instance, in this shot we see that there is no window and the room opens directly to the balcony. This changes later. Second, the space along the roof is not as wide as it later is, and definitely not wide enough to have a fight. Third, we see strange statues of creatures that later appear in the fight- but no long row of these creatures such as appears later.
Continuity mistake: When we first see Belle at the beginning of the movie, there's a bridge in front of her house, which she crosses over to get to town. But later, after Gaston plots with the insane asylum keeper, there's a wide shot of Belle's house with a horse and buggy waiting in front, and the bridge is gone.
Continuity mistake: When Belle sits down on a fountain to read the blue book she got from the librarian, some sheep pass by and one of them bites a piece of the page off. But in the next shot, when Belle sings "But she won't discover that it's him til chapter three.", the page is intact again.
Continuity mistake: In the 'Human Again' song, near the end of the song Cogsworth and Lumiere turn on the fountain and the large middle statue sprays out water, but the two statues either side of the middle one are turned off. Then the wardrobe jumps out onto the balcony singing and then it cuts to an ariel shot, and now the two side statues are suddenly spraying water too.
Continuity mistake: When Maurice is tossed out of the tavern we get a nice view of the front with its large hanging sign, but after Gaston whispers his plan to LeFou once again we see the front, which is quite different. The sign is gone, and now there are horns hanging on the awning, etc.
Add timeSuper Grover
Continuity mistake: When Chip fires up Maurice's invention and rides toward the cellar, in the shot facing the cottage we see there's nothing in the cellar handles, but in the closeup as Maurice's machine hacks away at the cellar doors there's a long branch inserted in the handles preventing the doors from opening.

Continuity mistake: When the Beast shows Belle to her room and then says she will join him for dinner before shutting the door, Belle is wearing her cloak. She's still wearing it when she runs over to the bed, kneels down and starts crying. When we see her again (after the Gaston scene which is in-between), she's no longer wearing the cloak, and she couldn't have removed it at any point because her position next to the bed hasn't changed since she started crying and she doesn't move again until Mrs Potts taps on the door to offer her a cup of tea.

Continuity mistake: When the Beast shows Belle to her room, in a wideshot you can see the oval centrepiece of the foot of the bed has a large purple rose painted on it and it has a plain red border. In a later scene after Mrs. Potts and Chip leave Belle's room, the purple rose and red border have vanished from the centrepiece, which is now only decorated with evenly spaced gold dots.

Continuity mistake: When Gaston is telling Belle all she has to do is marry him, and her father will be let go from the asylum, his hands are bare. Then when Belle gets the magic mirror and cries "Show me the Beast!", Gaston has yellow gloves on. Then in the next shot they're gone again.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Belle first comes to the gate castle to find her father's hat, she pushes the left side of the gate that's already partly open. But when her father came, he opened the right side of the gate and slammed it shut. How did the left side of the gate open?
Continuity mistake: During the fight scene at the end, knives are thrown at the villagers. Nobody is hit, but three knives get stuck in the left kitchen door. The villagers open both kitchen doors and, from the inside of the kitchen door, there are only two knives, each stuck in the right kitchen door.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Maurice's Rube Goldberg-ish woodcutting invention works for the first time, we see the piece of wood fly over onto the stack. There is no window there or anything made of glass for that matter, yet in the next shot we hear glass breaking from the wood flying over there.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the Provincial Life song, Gaston is singing from among the crowd and he doesn't have his gun. He climbs up the side of the building without his gun, but when he pops out of the window onto the roof he has his gun. When he pops in front of Belle on the street, the gun is gone again.
Continuity mistake: After leaving the book store, in an overhead shot Belle passes a shop just as a woman is pouring water towards the downspout, and in the next shot the shop suddenly has a large hanging pipe sign and a table under the window, the green shutters have vanished on the right window, the wood trim has changed, etc.

Continuity mistake: After Maurice is thrown out of the tavern Gaston whispers his plan to LeFou, and when they begin to dance we see an angled wall with a dart board, bow and arrows, but the problem is that angled wall with the dart board, bow and arrows did not exist in the overhead shot, right before Maurice walked in.

Continuity mistake: During Gaston's song, when they sing "Give five hurrahs, give twelve hip-hips," LeFou's beer tankard switches from his left hand to his right hand, between shots.
