Continuity mistake: Early in the film, Jack shoots Harry through the left thigh (taking the hostage out of the equation). At the police awards ceremony, Harry is using a cane on his right side and his limp favors his right leg. After the ceremony, in the bar, when Harry gets drunk and starts to leave, he's using his cane on the left side and his limp favors his left leg.

Continuity mistake: When Jack tries to get on the bus on the highway, he hits the door window and breaks it with his elbow. Later, when he finally catches up with the bus and gets on from the moving car, the door window is intact. Several times later it is visible, no break. Then later, when the bus is on the freeway, the glass is shown broken again, but in a different pattern.
Continuity mistake: When Dennis Hopper psyches the police chief out by making him think he's on the third floor, the elevator clicks one too many times. The camera shows the numbers: "5, click, 4, click" then it switches to the police chief, during which time you hear another click. It then switches back to the numbers: "3, click." Shouldn't it be on floor 2?
Continuity mistake: When they run onto the roof near the start, there's another trooper behind Harry running onto the roof (only visible in widescreen - in 4:3 it looks like a weird reflection). In the following shot of Keanu Reeves you can see the reflections of Harry and the other guy on the plastic covering the scaffolding. We're led to believe that Harry and Jack should be the only ones up there, as everyone else has a job to do. Aside from those two shots, this third trooper disappears once they start hooking the crane up.
Continuity mistake: Just after the bus driver has been unloaded and Helen tries to get off, Annie shouts "No Helen" at which point Jack turns around and grabs her shoulder to stop her. The shot switches to Dennis Hopper watching TV and then back to the bus where Jack is no longer even close to Helen when the bomb detonates.
Continuity mistake: When the LAPD are making the money drop, one shot from Dennis Hopper's apartment shows a businessman walking past the garbage can with a silver briefcase (just as the garbage man comes), and the same man with the silver briefcase walks past about a minute later in another shot when Keanu Reeves is running towards the bin.
Continuity mistake: Traven shoots Harry in the leg, and Harry is slumped against the wall next to the doorway. When Payne sets off the bomb, Harry is now no longer near the door, and is halfway down the corridor. Not enough time had passed between shots for this to have occurred.
Continuity mistake: When Annie drives onto the shoulder, after Jack has come out from investigating the bomb underneath, the bus crashes into a car on a tow truck. In the first shot the tow truck is well inside the white line on the road and it looks like it's half on the grass as well. In the following shot when the bus hits the car, the tow truck has moved to its left and is now on the white line on the road.
Continuity mistake: When Keanu and Jeff are on their way to the building at the start of the film, their car flies over a hill and lands back on the road. The right hand front wheel takes a really nasty knock as it lands and looks ready to come off, and yet in the next shot they arrive safely with no apparent difficulty driving the car.

Continuity mistake: At the start when Jack is trying to get on the runaway bus, he is seen passing the guy in the convertible Jaguar on the freeway entrance-ramp. He continues to overtake lines of stationary traffic in order to catch the bus, and then pulls alongside it. In the next shot he commandeers the Jaguar so he can use it to get onto the bus; however the Jaguar should still be waiting in the queues some way behind.
00:32:55 - 00:35:00
Continuity mistake: After the bus driver looks at the note "Bomb on Bus" he starts decreasing speed. So Keanu puts the Jaguar beside the bus and tells the bus driver to open the door for him to tell the driver to go at a speed of 50 miles per hour. Just before this you can see a camera shot in which the door is already open. This mistake is easily seen if you watch it in slow motion.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie after Jack has hooked up the crane from outside to the lift, there is a shot of the crane outside, and the line going through the vent. If you look closely there is a pipe in front of the vent, yet when the crane goes through the vent, the pipe has vanished.
Continuity mistake: When Howard Payne is in the elevator, he hears Jack and Harry doing something from above, and he reaches for his bomb trigger. In slow motion when he's picking it up, it has two buttons on it, yet when Howard pushes one of the buttons, the device now has three.
Continuity mistake: When Dennis Hopper's shooting the shotgun through the lift roof, the number of holes doesn't match the number of blasts. He shoots once and a hole appears. We then see a close up of him and he shoots twice more, but when we cut to the ceiling after the third shot overall, there are only two holes in it. Doesn't seem likely he'd miss the roof at a range of 2 feet.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the film when Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper are wrestling on top of the subway, if you watch Keanu's left wrist you notice he is wearing a watch. Yet throughout the scene it is obvious that the stunt double has no watch, because in the extreme action scenes, there are no signs of it anywhere on his wrist.
Continuity mistake: As Annie shouts at Sam and suggests he drive over the line of cars up ahead, the bus passes by a couple of bridges - visible through the side window where she and Helen are seated. But no bridges were visible anywhere at all when Sam first noticed the endless line of gridlocked traffic just seconds before.
Continuity mistake: After the bus has left the freeway and enters the city for the first time, there is a scene where Annie is driving the wrong way down a street and Jack can be seen standing right next to her. She pulls the bus onto the right side of the road and Jack puts the cell phone to his ear. In the next shot, he repeats the same action.
Continuity mistake: In the first part of the movie, it appears that the building is approximately 53 floors high, we can see this as when Keanu Reeves and Jeff Daniels go to the roof the label on the door is "ROOF/53". However, the service elevator seems to reach the top of the shaft after Dennis Hopper enters level 46 on the control panel. This is rather unfortunate, especially as the security console says that the elevator "serves floors GE-52". I wouldn't like to be in the elevator as it tries to go past level 46 to a higher floor such as 52.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the film, the train flies off the track, through a wood-framed tunnel under construction, and then onto a city street. During the credits, as the shot is pulled back, there is no destroyed wood-framed tunnel. In fact, traffic is flowing normally in the background.
Continuity mistake: When Jack is chasing the bus on the freeway in the Jaguar, an overhead shot is shown of the bus with three cars around it, but in the next shot of the traffic, the road is full of traffic which is surrounding the bus, which is highlighted by Jack having to to swerve around the cars.
Continuity mistake: Traven drives at high speed down the hard shoulder of the freeway to get to the bus to avoid the big traffic jam. When Traven cannot get on the bus, the black Jaguar XJS is now close at hand, which would have been impossible - it was way back in the traffic and couldn't have got to him that quickly.
Continuity mistake: When Annie swerves to avoid the schoolteacher and the kids, in the previous shot of the kids and the schoolteacher, they have already stepped out onto the road and are crossing, yet when the camera cuts to a view looking out the bus the schoolteacher and the kids are just stepping off the curb and walking across.
Continuity mistake: When Jack has caught up to the bus on the freeway then asks the driver to open up, the driver starts driving off, and Jack tries to catch it but fails. When he is standing on the freeway, look behind him, the red car with its passenger window down is driving past him, but in the following shot the red car is there again swerving to avoid him.
Continuity mistake: When Jack tells the other cop to "turn it on" in reference to the money tracker, soon as they realize Payne has the money, and Jack runs out to the garbage can, the red car that screeches to a stop to avoid hitting him is a red Ford Tempo. In the very next shot from the opposite direction, it's a red Mazda Protege.
Continuity mistake: In the elevator scene, when Jack is on top of the elevator, Payne sends the elevator to floor 46 from floor 28, but a second later when Jack looks up at the camera, if you look very closely, you can see he is on floor 15...16...17..., but he's supposed to go up from 28 to 46.

Continuity mistake: When Norwood and McMahon break out their maps after hearing about the gap, their platform truck passes a large overhead freeway sign on the right, as seen in a rear window reflection. But a second later, when McMahon insists that the freeway is finished, the sign is roughly 100 yards away instead.
Continuity mistake: When the bus passengers notice Tuneman's Jaguar approaching, watch how Stephens (the tourist wearing a blue shirt and sunglasses) changes his position between shots. From the outside we can see him minding his own business and facing the front of the bus at first, possibly reading a book on his lap. However in the following shot he's suddenly got both arms leaning over the seat back and his head turned left.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Jack pulls a gun on Tuneman, watch as Tuneman's hands change positions on the Jaguar between shots. At first he grabs the top edge of the windshield when pulling himself up to switch seats, but then his hands are placed much closer to the windshield's center all of a sudden.
Continuity mistake: When McMahon is in a helicopter trying to guide the bus from downtown traffic onto a vacant freeway, the bus passes through the same neighborhood twice from one overhead shot to the next, roughly one minute later (pay attention to the recurring trio of flagpoles on the right, as well as a pair of cars that the bus overtakes).
00:48:55 - 00:49:45ryguy_1983
Continuity mistake: When Payne is in a hideout watching the news unfold on numerous TV sets, he hears one reporter mention that a Los Angeles police officer (Jack) boarded the bus from a moving car. Right here we can see a reflection of Payne in the TV screen, which shows him placing his right hand over his mouth. In the following shot of Payne's face, where he says "Oh would that be you Jack?", his hand isn't anywhere near his mouth.
Continuity mistake: When Jack is inspecting the bomb from a red trolley connected to a tow truck, a spool of cable unwinds and breaks free from its clamp, leaving Jack to fend for himself. Soon, McMahon and Norwood are riding alongside the bus trying to see if Jack is okay, but notice how the cable has reattached itself to the empty spool.
01:16:30 - 01:17:30ryguy_1983
Continuity mistake: After telling Tuneman that he needs to board the moving bus, Jack pushes the Jaguar several car lengths forward so that he'll have ample distance to smash the door off. Meanwhile, we can see dotted white lines on the pavement between the Jaguar and the bus. But look over Jack's shoulder as he says "Are you insured?" and notice how two pairs of solid yellow lines have momentarily taken place of the white ones.
Continuity mistake: In the shot where Payne gives Jack permission to unload Sam from the bus, listen closely to the male news anchor on the immediate right. He reassures his viewing audience that the bus hasn't exploded, although a woman was caught in the blast and fell. This report airs roughly two minutes before the incident even takes place.
00:57:05 - 00:59:15ryguy_1983
Continuity mistake: An obvious stunt double is briefly visible pushing a baby carriage full of cans into the crosswalk as Annie unknowingly rams the bus into it. Initially we see an older woman pushing the carriage along after chatting with her friend. In a view from within the moving bus's front window, however, a much younger woman has briefly taken her place for a couple of shots.
Continuity mistake: The Suburban that swerves onto the LAX runway to retrieve Jack has no scaffold equipped on its driver's side, but we know for a fact that moments later Jack actually exits the bus and steps safely onto one. Somehow the Suburban has managed to gain a scaffold at cruising speed, but this couldn't have possibly happened unless a different, identical-looking vehicle with a scaffold pulled up at some point during the scene to take its place.
01:10:05 - 01:11:15ryguy_1983
Continuity mistake: When the crane breaks free from its bolts and starts flying towards some ventilation windows, it obliterates the upper pair. However in the next view from within an air duct, both of these windows just swing open freely as the crane busts through, and yet they barely appear to have suffered a scratch or bend in the process.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where the Pacific Courier Freight plane gets blown up, you can see that it is being towed alongside another plane, and some people standing/walking around next to it. In the next shot, where we see the camera moving closer and closer to the plane from the bus's perspective, the runway the plane was just being towed on is gone, as is the plane it was going past a moment ago along with the people. There was no time between shots for the plane to have been moved so far away.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie we see Keanu Reeves taking Jeff Daniels "out of the equation" by shooting him in the leg. We realise it's a serious injury as he requires the use of a cane when receiving his medal. However later on in the movie when they move in on Dennis Hopper's home, which takes place the next day, Daniels is part of the assault team and has no cane, no limp and is obviously very mobile.
Continuity mistake: When Jack drives on the shoulder, honking his horn to let people know that he's coming, he's pressing on a silver ring, which is the horn, but in the next shot, it's gone. While the ring only covers half the wheel, as he's going almost entirely straight it should always be in the same position.
Continuity mistake: In the shots before the bus blows up the Pacific Courier Freight plane, you can see that the vehicle towing it and the plane itself are no longer moving, as opposed to a couple of shots before this where the tow vehicle and plane are moving at a good pace. You also can no longer see the man who is supposed to be driving the tow vehicle (who might have run for it, but there's minimal time).
Continuity mistake: As Jack's initial pursuit of the bus begins, you can see although both vehicles are supposed to be traveling north on the 110 freeway, the sun changes position during filming several times. Shining on all sides for several minutes. This lasts up until the moment that Jack boards the bus.
