Fifty Shades of Grey

Anastasia Steele-"Ana" for short-goes to interview Christian Grey, a very successful and mysterious businessman with a not-so-happy past. Ana goes to visit him since her roommate/best friend Kate has the flu, and therefore can't make it.

When Ana arrives at Grey Enterprises Holdings, she feels out of place. Everyone is, as she describes roughly, "beautiful, blonde models". Anyway, Ana meets with Christian and can hardly believe her eyes. Since she had no idea who she was meeting with, her expectations were pretty slim, but now she's meeting an incredibly attractive, dark, mysterious figure that is apparently taken with her as well, and wants to know more. Ana finds this odd and claims that there's nothing special about her, or to know, but Christian pushes it a little.

When Ana leaves, she can hardly believe what just happened and has the famous line "holy cow", regarding her encounter with Mr. Grey. Even Kate notices this and asks what she thought of Christian; Ana says "he was fine", causing Kate to want to learn more.

Later on, Ana gets a call from her mother, Carla, saying that she and her current husband can't make it to her graduation due to Bob having an injury in his foot. Ana is obviously upset but continues with her job at Clayton's Hardware Store, where she is once again met up with Christian, claiming he was "in the neighborhood and needed to pick up a few things"; cable ties, rope, and tape. Ana helps him with this and he even asks her how Kate is doing. Ana says that she's feeling better but is upset because she can't "snag" an original picture of Christian, leading him to set-up a photo shoot for one.

After this, Christian invites Ana for coffee in order to learn more about her; he learns that her birth father died when she was baby, was raised by her step-dad Ray who claims her as his own, and how her mother is on husband #4, claiming that she's an "incurable romantic". Christian asks if Ana is as well, to which Ana says she has to be since she's studying English Literature. Christian then has to leave and apologizes for doing so; Ana asks if he has a girlfriend, to which he responds with "I don't do the girlfriend thing". Just then, Ana is almost hit by a cyclist and Christian saves her, giving them a brief moment while literally being close to each other. Christian can't do this and tells Ana that he has to let her go. Ana is upset and walks away.

Later on, Kate and Ana go out to celebrate after just finishing finals, which leads to a delivery for Ana; some first edition books. Ana thinks they're from Christian - which works because earlier she said that books were her thing - but she can't claim the gift, it's just too much.

At the bar, Ana has one too many to drink and drunk dials Christian. Christian becomes concerned with her and comes to her aid. Just before he does so, Jose tries to kiss her, but Christian comes just in time to push Jose away before he has a chance to. Ana ends up throwing up and fainting, causing Christian to take her back to his place.

When she wakes up, she's upset with herself that she was so reckless last night and sees that Christian left some medicine for her. She takes it just as he comes in from a jog, asking how she's feeling; she replies "better than I deserve". She then learns that Christian put her to bed, undressed her since her clothes were covered in vomit, and, most importantly besides getting her new clothes, actually slept next to her, which is something he never does. Ana asks if they "did it" but Christian says "necrophilia's not really my thing." Christian then scolds Ana for how she was last night and says that he's going to take a shower. Ana asks about the books, and Christian says that he felt he owed her an apology, and also tells her that he "doesn't do romance" and how his "tastes are very...singular", something she wouldn't understand. She asks for "enlightenment", but Christian leaves for his shower before an almost-kiss.

Afterwards, both Ana and Christian are dressed "cleanly", and Christian decides to take her home. While in the elevator, Christian can't help himself anymore and actually kisses Ana, much to her surprise. Fortunately he stops just in time before the doors open again, and Ana can hardly believe what happened. Christian and Ana arrive at her and Kate's place, and quickly discover that Kate and Elliot - Christian's older brother - got along very well. After Christian and Elliot leave, Kate suspects that something happened between them, and Ana told her what.

Later on, Ana still has Christian on her mind but seems to be happy/shocked by what happened, but with no complaints. After her shift, Christian's driver, Taylor, picks her up and takes her straight to a big surprise; a helicopter! Christian flies her to his apartment and she enjoys every second of the ride. Back at his place, Christian introduces Ana to the non-disclosure agreement, as well as his Play Room, with Ana hilariously thinking that he means his "X-Box and stuff". Instead, she comes across a locked room that is described as "womb-like" and again, can hardly believe her eyes; there's sex toys everywhere and she has no idea what they're for. In the same time/scene, Ana learns what Christian wants; a submissive from her, and learns that he's a Dominant.

After leaving the room, she asks; "What if I want nothing to do with that?", with Christian responding "Then I would understand completely". In this same scene, both characters learn something; Ana learns about the contract, and Christian learns that she's still a virgin, and is very much shocked by this. He asks her why and she just says that she was "waiting" but never had a man she wanted, instead of men just being attracted to her. Christian decides to have a moment with her to make her feel more comfortable, as well as give her what she wants, and the two have sex. Ana wakes up later and finds Christian playing a sad melody on the piano - this is important later - but before she can do anything further with that, Christian takes her back to the bedroom.

Ana wakes up the next morning with Christian sleeping soundly by her side, and goes to fix them some breakfast. Christian watches a cute little dance of hers as she prepares it, and after they eat, Christian suggests a bath for them both. After this he decides to try tying her up for the first time, but before anything else can happen, Christian's mother Grace comes into the picture. She's surprised to see him with a woman - a first in his book - but is also happy as well. After he sends her on her way, he finds Ana in her, I guess you could call it, "Submissive Bedroom".

They start to talk about what this relationship would mean in the future (and she learns that he's had fifteen Submissives before), and then Christian takes her home, but not before a quick walk in the woods. Ana then learns that Christian was sexually abused when he was fifteen years old by a friend of his mother's, causing him to enter a BDSM lifestyle. Christian also tells her his list of firsts and why she has no reason to feel like "wanting out" of what he wants; she was the first girl he flew in his helicopter, the first girl he had sex with in his own bed, and the first girl he ever slept next to.

Christian then drops Ana off at her place and gives her a copy of the contract, informing her to "read it carefully, and e-mail him if she has any questions". As Ana gets inside, she finds out that Christian bought her a new laptop, and after Kate leaves for the day, Christian emails Ana and thanks her for the weekend.

We then see Ana do some research into exactly what a BDSM lifestyle will be for her, as well as reviewing the contract and every single detail it holds. Christian grows impatient and asks her multiple times if her research has been productive. Ana jokes saying it has been but that she wishes to not see him anymore. Christian then visits her at her new place, since she and Kate moved recently, and reminds her how "nice" things were. Ana wants Christian to stay afterwards, but he leaves out of frustration, since Ana hasn't made up her mind yet about the contract.

Ana then decides that she wants to discuss the contract and holds a meeting with Christian. Afterwards, not only does Christian allow her a date "sweetener" for her commitment, but also implies that he wants sex. Ana teases him about this, implying that she wants it too, but leaves anyway.

Then graduation day is here. Christian is the speaker and even meets Ana's "dad" for the first time. After a picture with a photographer, they celebrate alone back at her place. Unbeknownst to her, Christian has a gift; a new car. Ana is appalled by this gesture, since she already had a car which was perfectly safe. When she rolls her eyes at him, he takes her back and spanks her three times; then leaves. Carla then calls, apologising for missing the graduation and learns about Christian, and suggests that Ana should come and visit her for a few days. Ana says she'll think about it but ultimately agrees to come.

Ana visits Christian at his apartment and has her first, real experience in the Red Room; catching a glimpse of their future. She then rests for a little while beforehand since she and Christian are going to dinner at his parent's place, giving her a chance to meet his father, Carrick, and his sister Mia. This is also when and where he learns about Ana going to Georgia. Christian takes her away and claims her as his. Ana tells him that he's "so confusing", and asks him what he wants; he says he wants her. The confrontation leads to frustration from Christian, since Ana is so worried about the contract, as well as Ana putting him in his spot and asking "Why do you care so much about the contract, Christian? Don't you like me the way I am?" He says he does. Ana tells him that she wants "more" but Christian claims that "hearts and flowers isn't something he knows".

Later on while Ana is asleep, Christian takes up the courage to tell her about his real mother; a crack whore that died when he was only four years old. He also says that he remembers terrible things from his past, but not her. Ana wakes up and Christian asks her if she really has to go to Georgia; she says "Yeah, I really do". and Christian decides to let her go.

While in Georgia, Ana gets an unexpected visit; Christian himself. This is because he visited with, as Ana calls her "Mrs. Robinson", to see if whether or not he should visit Ana. The next morning, he takes her gliding but gets a call when they've finished about an important matter back at home. He then goes home, and Ana returns in the near future.

When she does, she meets Christian as his apartment but quickly realizes that he's upset about something. He brushes it off and asks her to be in the Play Room in fifteen minutes. You can guess what happens next.

Ana once again finds Christian playing a sad song on the piano, and claims that since they are technically a couple, that they should be talking. Christian responds; "like normal people"? Again, another conflict comes into play, not just when the contract is brought into focus, but rather Ana asking why Christian even wants to punish her, giving him the line "because I'm fifty shades of fucked up". Ana asks to see what he means.

In the Red Room, Christian asks Ana if she is sure about this, and she assures him that she is. This leads to Christian hitting her six times with a belt, something he didn't even want to do at all. Ana becomes emotionally hurt and demands that he stay away from her; this leads to her leaving and going to her room.

Ana tries to calm down in her bedroom and tells Christian a set of words that even he can't believe have come out of her mouth; she has fallen in love with him. He says that she can't. Ana says that she needs him to leave. He listens.

Ana exits her room and gives Christian his gifts back, and asks for her own car back as well. Christian claims that it was already sold, so she asks for the money instead; he says that he'll send her a check, and that Taylor will take her home. As Ana starts to disappear from his life, he makes one final attempt to get her to stay and follows her to the elevator. She yells "no" at him and he stops in his tracks. He repeats her name in a desperate plea for her to stay, but it's too late; she is now gone and his brokenness is clearly shown.

Factual error: When Ana is talking to Christian on her cell at the bar and he hangs up on her, you hear a dial tone. A dial tone wouldn't be heard once a cellular call disconnects. Dial tones are only heard on land line phones. Both were on their cells.
