Revealing mistake: After the heroes get snared and surrounded by Ewoks on Endor, the Ewoks mistake C3P0 for a god and start bowing. There is one Ewok which only has holes where the eyes and mouth are and you can see the eyes and mouth of the person inside the Ewok costume.

Revealing mistake: When Vader throws the lightsaber at Luke and the platform collapses, the point where the platform's columns connect to the ceiling have expanding circles of smoke coming from them as the columns detach from the ceiling, created by the charges used to sever the platform.

Revealing mistake: When Luke and Darth Vader are fighing in the emperor's throne room, they pass in front of a great window. The stars are blurred and they shake.

Revealing mistake: In many far away shots of the sail barge you can see it is on a dune rather than in mid air.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke is in his X-Wing preparing to make the jump to Dagobah, you can see the red text in the TV-type viewer in the cockpit has been superimposed as it remains stationary relative to the frame even when the cockpit is moving around.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke jumps from Jabba's prisoner's skiff, you can see a stick supporting the "floating" skiff he jumps over to.

Revealing mistake: During the speeder bike chase, the speeders never cast any shadows on the ground.

Add time

Revealing mistake: (Original theatrical release) When the imperial officer yells "Freeze", he is transparent and you can see the reactor behind him.

Revealing mistake: When 3PO and R2 are being assigned to their droidly duties in Jabba's palace, there is a shot of a poor droid having hot irons branding his feet. The irons are never closer than an inch from the droid's feet, and the steam that allegedly comes from the burning is obviously being shot out of holes in the droid's feet.

Add time

Revealing mistake: After Wicket tells the rebels where the secret entrance to the base is, there's a shot of spaceships flying in space. An X-Wing passes through the Millennium Falcon and another one through a Calamarian cruiser.

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: On Jabba's sail barge, Luke's hand is wounded before it is shot at.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: Right before Luke leaps from the speeder bike to the scout trooper's speeder, there's a shot showing the front of the speeders. Notice the area surrounding the speeders in this shot. During the rest of the speeder bike chase, the speeders pass through this area several times, even though they are not flying in circles. This can be seen, for example, from the sunlight hitting the ground and the tree on the left side with a bush in front of it. Also, one of the shots where this area is seen is the shot before the speeders pass two more scout troopers, but the background has been flipped.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When C3PO and R2D2 are picked up in the sand, there is no sand falling off them. Obviously, C3PO's legs and R2D2 where just placed behind some sand (and not in it) or they used blue screen in this shot.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Vader's shuttle lands on the forest moon of Endor, an Imperial AT-AT walks near the landing pad. There's a strange shadow that keeps appearing and disappearing on one of its leg. Maybe the shadow of the puppeteers?

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the ground battle on Endor, two stormtroopers are knocked to the ground by the Ewoks. In the following shot, one of the troopers has a big crack in the left shoulder of his armour. The crack was obviously not there in the previous shot.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: In the battle on Endor, there is a shot of some Ewoks on a catapult and the at-st fires at them. Notice the second time they get fired at, the blast hits the catapult. Just before the shot ends, notice there is no damage to it.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: During the speeder bike chase scenes, speeders bikes don't affect any vegetation, even though they're flying near the ground at incredible speed.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke leaves the Death Star in an Imperial shuttle, a large girder or something falls right in front of his ship. If you watch closely, you can see it bounce, revealing the miniature. A huge, heavy girder wouldn't have bounced like this.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke and Vader enter the Emperor's throne room, in the shot from behind, you can see the stairs through Luke.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When Luke is being fed to the Rancor, in Jabba the Hutt's dungeon, there are black outlines around the beast's legs, from the composite's blue screen special effect. This was edited out in the special edition rerelease.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Leia takes a speeder to chase the stormtrooopers, there is an SFX box around it and it makes no shadow on the ground.

Revealing mistake: Just before Luke chops off Darth Vader's hand in the battle at the end of the movie, you can see that the bar has already been cut (the line is visible) to give the illusion that Luke cut through the steel bar with his lightsaber as well as Vader's hand.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: After the Rebels break into the bunker, a Rebel in the background punches an officer. But if you watch closely or play it in slow motion, the Rebel's hand never comes into contact with the officer's face.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Han and Lando are talking in the hangar after the big meeting about the new Death Star, right when the scene opens and the shot pans down, notice how half the hangar is real and the other half is a matte painting.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: (Widescreen Only) The rancor puppeteer's arm can be seen on the far right side of the screen as it starts poking at a hiding Luke.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke and Leia swing to the skiff on the rope, in the shot from the back, Leia is obviously played by a stunt woman - the birthmark on Carrie Fisher's back, which can be seen a few times on board the sail barge, is missing.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: Widescreen version: After Luke cuts off Vader's hand, the Emperor says, "Now, fulfil your destiny, and take your father's place at my side." In the next shot, you can see that Luke's lightsabre blade goes through the railing, without damaging it.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: In the wide-shot where Luke leaps from the prisoner skiff over to another skiff, you can see the stick used during the filming, which is much shorter than the regular one. The blade is not even glowing. (It is not just simply the hilt of the sabre, it's too long for that.).

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When Darth Vader lands on the forest moon of Endor, he exits the shuttle and his head passes through it.

xx:xx:xx

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When the shield generator explodes, a piece of shrapnel flies towards the left side of the screen and then flies back, because it bounces off the inside of the building the miniature was housed in.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: After the rebels have destroyed the radar on Endor, there's a shot of Lando and a Sullustean laughing, and after that, a shot of spaceships. One Y-Wing passes in front of an X-Wing, but the light of its engines disappears a little bit before.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: During the lightsaber duel, Vader throws his at Luke. The catwalk behind Luke explodes, but if you watch in slow-motion there are two explosions: one some inches over where the lightsaber actually hits and one far on the left.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When Luke is in the Rancor pit, there is a Rodian in the crowd - some of his fingers are hanging from his hands. Cheap costume. He makes hand gestures like Mr. Burns - helps to find him.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: If you watch closely (or play it in slow motion) when the scout trooper punches Han, you can see that the troopers hand never actually comes into contact with is face.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: In the shot where Vader throws the Emperor into the pit, the Emperor is obviously a puppet, because he doesn't move at all.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Han and Chewie sneak up on the two storm troopers on the Endor moon, Han steps on a twig, it snaps, and the trooper turns around and punches him. Watch in slow motion as the punch is released, Han starts falling backwards before the fist hits him.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When the Tydirium shuttle is flying toward the imperial spaceships, there's a frontal shot of it and a strange thing appears near the shuttle for a few frames. It's not the kind of marks that appears on an old film, or a special effects box. It's like a problem with the mate painting.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When Luke jumps from Jabba's prisoner's skiff over to another skiff, if you watch Lando hanging underneath the prisoner's skiff, you can easily see that he is a matte painting in this shot, because he doesn't move at all.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Jabba's sail barge begins to explode, you can see that one of the floating skiffs is standing on stilts.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: The interior matte paining of the hangar on the Rebel ship holding the stolen Imperial shuttle doesn't match the appearance of the hangar from the exterior shot of the Rebel ship. The interior hangar shows an extended platform and four banks of vertical lights bordering the opening and then walls. From the exterior, the hangar appears to have a big light bank near the opening, and then thinner light banks behind it spaced farther apart than the interior shot. The exterior shot also doesn't have a platform.

Revealing mistake: When Luke and Leia swing from the deck on to the skiff, you can see that the man playing Lando Calrissian is not Billy Dee Williams but his stunt double.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In many of the scenes taking place in outer space, if you look closely you can see polygon borders surrounding space vehicles (X-Wings, Star Destroyers, and even the Death Star) indicating the objects being superimposed into the outer space background. [This mistake may only apply to the Blu Ray version.]

Add time

Serious B

Revealing mistake: The close-up of R2-D2 waiting for Leia to return has a clear shot of the middle wire section of C-3PO in which you can see Anthony Daniels breathing as the spandex underneath the wires expands. This is especially clear on the Blu-ray.

Trivia

When filming ROTJ, Lucas didn't want anyone to find out that they were shooting the third Star Wars movie, because pandemonium could break out. So when someone asked the crew what they were filming, they said "Blue Harvest". All of the crew had shirts and hats that said Blue Harvest on them. The fictitious film's tagline was "Horror beyond imagination."
