Revealing mistake: After the heroes get snared and surrounded by Ewoks on Endor, the Ewoks mistake C3P0 for a god and start bowing. There is one Ewok which only has holes where the eyes and mouth are and you can see the eyes and mouth of the person inside the Ewok costume.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: The shots at the end of the movie with the emperor are obviously lit from the front. This exposed too much of the emperor's head inside the cowl so it was darkened to make him look more menacing. Look for the added shadow - it looks like someone took a black magic marker and coloured on the film. (This may be corrected on the re-release).

Continuity mistake: When Jabba pulls Leia's chain, there is a long shot as she leaps up onto his throne, and he is holding his wine goblet in his left hand, and pulling her chain with his right. However, in the very next shot (in which he says "Soon you will learn to appreciate me"), the entire frame is reversed. This is evident in Jabba's holding the wine in his "right" hand, his higher-placed nostril (which is normally on the left on his face) is now on the "right," Leia's reversal of her armlet, etc.

Continuity mistake: On Endor, when the stormtroopers come to take Luke away, the door of the lift is heard opening, the stormtroopers are heard walking, and then they appear behind Luke three seconds after the door opened. But in the next shot, we can see that Luke and Vader are too far away from the lift for the stormtroopers to reach them that quickly.

Other mistake: In the original version, when the Rebel fleet reaches the Death Star, Lando says, "Fighters coming in" and the Millennium Falcon flies towards the screen. If you play it in slow motion when the Falcon leaves the screen, you can see two white figures shaped like TIE fighters on the Falcon's underside. As the Falcon leaves the shot, they disappear. This has been fixed in the Special Edition.

Add time

Continuity mistake: After the Death Star explodes, in the first shot of the Ewoks, a grey one is standing next to Chewbacca (who can be seen on the extreme right). In the next shot, this Ewok has disappeared, and another one is standing next to C-3PO. This Ewok has disappeared in the following shot, and a third one, who was nowhere to be seen in the previous shot, is now standing in front of Chewbacca. Also, C-3PO, Chewbacca and the Rebel next to him are standing in different positions between shots.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Jabba pulls Leia's chain in the sail barge, Bib Fortuna is standing on the right side of the screen, a few meters away. He then takes one step forward, but in the next shot he is suddenly standing behind Leia, as he's pushing her against Jabba. He was too far away from them in the previous shot to have reached them that quickly.

Revealing mistake: Right before Luke leaps from the speeder bike to the scout trooper's speeder, there's a shot showing the front of the speeders. Notice the area surrounding the speeders in this shot. During the rest of the speeder bike chase, the speeders pass through this area several times, even though they are not flying in circles. This can be seen, for example, from the sunlight hitting the ground and the tree on the left side with a bush in front of it. Also, one of the shots where this area is seen is the shot before the speeders pass two more scout troopers, but the background has been flipped.

Add time

Other mistake: When the ground battle on Endor begins, Leia runs to the bunker, and as the doors close, she fires a shot. In the original version of the movie, the blaster smokes, but no laser beam comes out of it and no sound is heard (do not confuse this with the sound of the doors closing). In the Special Edition, the sound has been added, but the laser is still missing. Play it in slow motion for confirmation.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When C3PO and R2D2 are picked up in the sand, there is no sand falling off them. Obviously, C3PO's legs and R2D2 where just placed behind some sand (and not in it) or they used blue screen in this shot.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Luke and Han are being executed on Tatooine, Han says his eyes are getting better but still bad. Then he looks directly at Luke and says "You're gonna die here." In the very next line of dialog, Han's head is turned a different way. It looks like it was a different shot.

Add time

Continuity mistake: After Leia removes her helmet in Jabba's palace, her hair changes on the right side of her head, depending on the camera angle.

Add time

Continuity mistake: At the end of the scene when the Emperors and Darth Vader walks through the Death Star's hangar, you can see that the Emperor walks past a squad of grey suited commanders. But in the next shot there are only white dressed storm troopers and scout troopers on the right side of the Emperor. And if you compare the last shot in the scene with the earlier shots you can see differences in the soldiers' placements.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Luke pulls Vader away from the edge of the abyss, a wall can be seen behind them, quite close to them. But several times earlier in the movie, there was no such wall in this area of the Emperor's throne room.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Leia frees Han from the carbonite, there's a table on the right side of the room. The position and existence of the fruit and other objects lying on and around the table keep changing between shots.

Add time

Audio problem: When Lando is inside the Death Star we see a shot of him scraping the side of some metal. Then he says "That was too close." His voice has the same echo applied to it as the sound effects in the narrow metal tunnel. For unknown reasons this mistake wasn't even fixed in the DVD.

Continuity mistake: When R2-D2 is assigned to his duties in Jabba's palace, another droid (EV-9D9) says, "But you'll soon learn some respect." and her arm is in a different position from the previous shot. In the following shot, her arm is in its original position.

xx:xx:xx

Other mistake: During the final confrontation with Vader on the Death Star, Luke bashes a catwalk railing with his light saber several times, but there are no burns, marks, or indentations on it at all. Continuity mistake: When Leia frees Han from the carbonite, he falls on the ground and has dirt on his face. Some shots later, the dirt is gone.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: When the little Ewok finds Leia, and she rises up, he points his spear at her and you can see that the front of his leather hood is over the spear's shaft. The shot changes to Leia, the back to the Ewok and now spear is over the hood, the shots change again and now the hood's front is crumbled up between the spear and the Ewok´s body.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Luke and Leia land on the skiff after swinging on the rope, Luke's facial hair is much darker than in the rest of the scene.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Luke and Vader enter the Emperor's throne chamber, the stars behind him move really fast. Later, they move in a normal way.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When Darth Vader lands on the forest moon of Endor, he exits the shuttle and his head passes through it.

xx:xx:xx

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When the shield generator explodes, a piece of shrapnel flies towards the left side of the screen and then flies back, because it bounces off the inside of the building the miniature was housed in.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: After the rebels have destroyed the radar on Endor, there's a shot of Lando and a Sullustean laughing, and after that, a shot of spaceships. One Y-Wing passes in front of an X-Wing, but the light of its engines disappears a little bit before.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: During the lightsaber duel, Vader throws his at Luke. The catwalk behind Luke explodes, but if you watch in slow-motion there are two explosions: one some inches over where the lightsaber actually hits and one far on the left.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: After Luke kills the Rancour, Jabba says, "Bring me Solo and the Wookiee.", and Lando is nowhere to be seen. In the next shot, he is suddenly standing in front of Jabba's platform, and some of the other people have changed position.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When Luke is in the Rancor pit, there is a Rodian in the crowd - some of his fingers are hanging from his hands. Cheap costume. He makes hand gestures like Mr. Burns - helps to find him.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Other mistake: Look at the shots of the windows in the Emperor's chamber on the Death Star. When they are seen from a distance, the window frames are out of focus, but the stars remain in clear focus.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the scene on Endor where Luke and the Stormtrooper are duelling on the speeder bikes. The glove on Luke's damaged hand changes sides between the front and side on shots.

Add time

Continuity mistake: At the very end of Palpatine and Vader's conversation, we are tight on the Emperor. He is walking past a series of grey suited officers. But when we instantly cut to a wide angle shot, they are now in front of rows of stormtroopers.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Widescreen version: When the captured rebels are led out of the bunker, C-3PO walks out from behind a tree. In the next shot, the tree is much bigger, and C-3PO is further away from it.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the scene where Luke is being electrocuted by the Emperor, the Emperor is standing at the bottom of the stairs. When he says, "Young fool... Only now, at the end, do you understand", he is standing in front of the great window. However, in the next shot of the Emperor, he is standing at the bottom of the stairs again, before he walks down to his previous position.

xx:xx:xx

Other mistake: Widescreen version: When Han calls after Luke and Leia when they leave on the speeder bike, the head of the stormtrooper that attacks him can be seen in the lower right hand corner, as the actor is waiting for his cue. After Han calls after Luke and Leia, the stormtrooper suddenly pops up and attacks him.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: The stormtrooper that is chasing Leia on the forest moon of Endor has a symbol looking like IZ on his helmet. It keeps disappearing during the scene.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: As we follow Fett's flight after being hit by Han, we cut to a scene showing the front half of a skiff. Luke then kicks one of Jabba's henchman. He very clearly misses the man by a few inches, yet the man still tumbles to his doom nonetheless.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the droids enter Jabba's throne room, in the shot facing the droids, they are not standing on the same part of the floor as in the previous shot. Also, R2-D2 is facing Jabba, but in the previous shot, he was facing C-3PO.

xx:xx:xx

Other mistake: After the catwalk that Luke is standing on collapses, Vader walks down the stairs to find him. In the first shot, there's a shadow of a lightsabre blade on the right side of the steps, but Vader's sabre is extinguished at this point. It can't be the shadow of Luke's sabre. Widescreen version only.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When the droids enter Jabba's throne room, a three-legged R2-D2 rolls out on the floor. In the next shot, the droid no longer has his third leg deployed.

Add time

Deliberate mistake: When Luke is to be executed, Jabba says, "Put him in", and there's a shot of the prisoner's skiff. The shot has been flipped, seen from the positions of Lando and the guards, as well as the railing of the skiff.

Add time

Audio problem: In the beginning of the space battle, a Mon Calamari says, "Admiral, we have enemy ships in Sector 47.", but his lips don't move.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: After Luke leaps up to the catwalk during the lightsabre duel, Vader's left shoulder is more covered by his cloak than in the previous shot of him.

Add time

Continuity mistake: On the forest moon of Endor, when Chewbacca finds the dead animal, it's attached on a little tree but when they are trapped in the net, the animal is still there, but the tree has disappeared.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: This is a 'Special Edition' error only. After the scene in Jabba's palace when R2D2 and C3P0 are assigned their 'duties' we see the audience chamber in their party, and Jabba holding his dancing girl's leash. When the first song ends, Jabba says 'Do that again' and his hands are empty. When next he's shown, the leash is back in his hands.

Add time

Audio problem: When the group in the shuttle Tyderium is waiting tensely to see if the clearance code is accepted, Han says, "They're not going for it, Chewie." If you look closely, you can see that when he stops talking, his mouth is still moving.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Han, Luke and Chewbacca are sentenced to death, there's a strange alien with a long tongue hanging from the ceiling, in the upper, left hand corner. In some shots, the creature is moving, in other shots, it is completely still and appears to be asleep or something.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Han and Leia kiss after the Death Star explodes, after Wicket shows up, Han's hand is on the back of Leia's head. In the next shot, his hand is on her arm, and Leia's thumb is touching his jaw, which it didn't do in the previous shot.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: In one quick scene when Luke's hologram is talking to Jabba, the film has been reversed. The camera shows Jabba sucking on his 'bong' and then pans down to Salacious Crumb. However, during the Jabba shot, the air bubbles in the 'bong' are going down, as opposed to surfacing. Behind Jabba, you can see the smoke created is also going downward.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the Emperor's throne room, the existence and arrangement of several of the canisters on each side of the lift/elevator changes between shots, several times.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the droids are hiding behind a tree before R2-D2 shoots off to help Han and Leia, the background changes twice.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: During the final battle, when some moving ships explode, the fire and the debris suddenly stay stationary.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: When Leia frees Han from the carbonite, the light shining on the walls and floor keeps changing. For example, watch the light on the right side of the carbonite block.

Add time

Continuity mistake: During the battle against the Death Star, right before the Emperor gives permission to fire the Death Star, Wedge says, "Red Three, Red Two, pull in." Another pilot answers, "Got it", but it is neither Red Two nor Three, but Green Leader.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: If you watch closely (or play it in slow motion) when the scout trooper punches Han, you can see that the troopers hand never actually comes into contact with is face.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Chewbacca gives Han a hug in his prison cell in Jabba's palace, he initially puts one arm around him, but as the shot changes both Chewbacca's arms are around Han.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Luke throws a scout trooper off of a speeder bike on Endor, the trooper mysteriously hits a tree back first, but he should have hit the tree face-first. He only rotated across his horizontal axis.

Add time

Cubs Fan

Continuity mistake: In the fight scenes on the skiffs with Jabba the Hutt's men, the skiff that Han and Chewie are on is hit with a laser blast and Han falls over the edge feet first, yet in the following scene he is hanging upside down with Chewie holding his feet.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In the shot where Vader throws the Emperor into the pit, the Emperor is obviously a puppet, because he doesn't move at all.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When the Rancour grabs Luke, as the shot ends, Luke is holding the bone with two hands. In the next shot, he's holding it with only one hand.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Yoda is lying in bed, the creases in the blanket over him keep changing between shots.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When R2-D2 is tied up in the Ewok village, the rope that binds him keeps changing position.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Just before the Emperor's ship lands on the Death Star, a formation of four TIE fighters disappears from the center right of the frame. This happens seconds before the in-hangar scene with Vader greeting the Emperor. This is visible on VHS.

Add time

Continuity mistake: After Lando is shot off the transport vehicle when Han is trying to save him, look for Lando to actually walk down the sand in the bottom of the screen. The very next scene, he is hanging on the rope.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Lando orders half the fighters to break off and return to the surface, an A-Wing and an X-Wing break off to the right. When Green Leader acknowledges, the same A-Wing and X-Wing break off to the right again.

Add time

AdmRose

Continuity mistake: Han says "You stay here, we'll take care of this." Leia turns and she can be seen with a very large smile, even showing her teeth. When the camera instantly cuts to a different angle of the scene, Leia is no longer smiling, displaying a deadpan look.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When R2-D2 cut the net, only Han, Luke and Chewbacca fall from it. Maybe C3P0 would have hold for a moment because his leg was stuck in the net, but R2 was right over the hole.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: When Luke somersaults over up to a platform above him when fighting Vader, If you look at the hair of Luke jumping, you will notice that the stunt double's hair is much more blonde than Mark Hamill's.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Han is planting explosives in the bunker, he says, "Throw me another charge." and places the charge on a crossbeam. In the next shot, the charge is on a different part of the ceiling.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: In the lightsabre duel between Luke and Darth Vader, Luke chops off Vader's hand twice before Vader falls down. The first shot shows Lukes lightsabre striking Vader's wrist, and Vader's hand separating from the wrist. The second shot is from behind and shows the lightsabre chopping Vader's hand clean off his wrist, then it sparks.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Han and Chewie sneak up on the two storm troopers on the Endor moon, Han steps on a twig, it snaps, and the trooper turns around and punches him. Watch in slow motion as the punch is released, Han starts falling backwards before the fist hits him.

Add time

Audio problem: After R2-D2 gets shot, Leia says to Han, "I'll cover you.", but the words don't match the movement of her lips.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When the Tydirium shuttle is flying toward the imperial spaceships, there's a frontal shot of it and a strange thing appears near the shuttle for a few frames. It's not the kind of marks that appears on an old film, or a special effects box. It's like a problem with the mate painting.

Add time

Dr Wilson

Audio problem: When the shuttle Tydirium is approaching Endor, look closely when Han says, "Fly casual" - he begins to say the words before his lips start moving. When he stops talking, his mouth is still moving.

Add time

Revealing mistake: When Luke jumps from Jabba's prisoner's skiff over to another skiff, if you watch Lando hanging underneath the prisoner's skiff, you can easily see that he is a matte painting in this shot, because he doesn't move at all.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Vader tosses the Emperor and then collapses on some barrels next to the railing. Look at Vader's arm - the one with the severed hand. His arm is bent at the forearm in a way that arms just don't bend. This is because David Prowse's hand was inside an "elongated" arm to simulate it being chopped off. He couldn't keep his wrist straight, giving the appearance of a bent forearm.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Anakin Skywalker (Vader) dies, the path of a tear is visible under one of Luke's eyes. Two shots later, the tear path is dry.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When Jabba's sail barge begins to explode, you can see that one of the floating skiffs is standing on stilts.

xx:xx:xx

Continuity mistake: When Han is speaking to Lando before he departs for Endor, the distance between the two men changes between shots.

Add time

Revealing mistake: The interior matte paining of the hangar on the Rebel ship holding the stolen Imperial shuttle doesn't match the appearance of the hangar from the exterior shot of the Rebel ship. The interior hangar shows an extended platform and four banks of vertical lights bordering the opening and then walls. From the exterior, the hangar appears to have a big light bank near the opening, and then thinner light banks behind it spaced farther apart than the interior shot. The exterior shot also doesn't have a platform.

xx:xx:xx

Vader47000

Revealing mistake: When Luke and Leia swing from the deck on to the skiff, you can see that the man playing Lando Calrissian is not Billy Dee Williams but his stunt double.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Before the rebels take off for Endor, Han says to Lando to take the Millennium Falcon as "she's the fastest ship in the fleet". At this point, Lando can be seen moving his head down, but as the scene changes he is looking straight ahead again.

Add time

Visible crew/equipment: During Luke's conversation with Ben's ghost, you can see a boom microphone in the background. This applies to the original wide-screen version.

Add time

christob

Continuity mistake: In the scenes where the Emperor is trying to convert Luke, watch the stars through the window behind him. The same group of stars go floating past every time.

Add time

Continuity mistake: Look at the full body shot of the holographic Luke. Luke, who normally has his lightsabre clipped to his left hip, now has it hung from his right hip. As well, his hair, which normally has a part on his left hand side, is now parted on the right. Afterwards, just before Artoo turns the message off, we get a shot from behind Artoo, and Luke's hologram is visible on the extreme right of the screen. Luke's lightsabre is now hanging from his left hip where it normally is.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In many of the scenes taking place in outer space, if you look closely you can see polygon borders surrounding space vehicles (X-Wings, Star Destroyers, and even the Death Star) indicating the objects being superimposed into the outer space background. [This mistake may only apply to the Blu Ray version.]

Add time

Serious B

Continuity mistake: During the speeder chase scene, Leia jumps from her speeder and it blows up, the stormtrooper then hits a tree. The camera shows the tree as a hollow shaft, but when the stormtrooper smashes into it, suddenly it is solid.

xx:xx:xx

Tony

Continuity mistake: Outside the bunker the position of the bodies keep changing or moving throughout the battle on Endor.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Luke is riding the speeder bike against the trooper, the black glove on his right hand jumps to his left and then back again.

Add time

ozwal13

Continuity mistake: When R2-D2 is shot by an Imperial stormtrooper whilst trying to open the shield generator's doors, he goes into the side wall and you can see a door open on his body with an interface arm sticking out of it. But when Han shoots the stormtrooper dead, we cut back to R2, and the door that was originally open is now closed.

Add time

Revealing mistake: The close-up of R2-D2 waiting for Leia to return has a clear shot of the middle wire section of C-3PO in which you can see Anthony Daniels breathing as the spandex underneath the wires expands. This is especially clear on the Blu-ray.

xx:xx:xx

Vader47000

Continuity mistake: During the fight between Luke and Darth Vader, when Vader throws his lightsaber at Luke, it is not only Luke's lightsaber from Episodes IV & V instead of his own, it is ignited upside-down, with the blade protruding from the pommel rather than the emitter.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the Rebel fleet is preparing to make the jump to hyperspace to the second Death Star, the small fighters move first. Then the big ships. But when the big ships move into hyperspace, there are only the Medical Frigate, some transports and some Blockade Runners. What happened with the big Correllian command ships?

Trivia

When filming ROTJ, Lucas didn't want anyone to find out that they were shooting the third Star Wars movie, because pandemonium could break out. So when someone asked the crew what they were filming, they said "Blue Harvest". All of the crew had shirts and hats that said Blue Harvest on them. The fictitious film's tagline was "Horror beyond imagination."
