Factual error: When Cattleya escapes through the sewer drain and winds up in front of the U.S. Embassy, she uncovers the manhole all by herself. Impossible for such a young child to do.

Captain America: The First Avenger picture

Factual error: When the action moves to England after the failed award ceremony, the British Union Flag hanging from the wall is upside down. The broad white band should be at the top left (nearest the top of the flag pole).

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows picture

Factual error: In the scene straight after the opening credits we are taken to Baker Street where construction work is being done. This work is identified by a sign with a logo as being for the underground line. The logo type face was developed by a Mr. Edward Johnston for London Underground from 1913 but the distinctive typeface used in the film was not in place until 1919. This is obviously long after the 1891 setting of the film.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon picture

Factual error: When the Autobots return to the moon in the present day to retrieve Sentinel Prime, they pass by the Apollo 11 lunar module (LEM). The LEM consists of an upper part (ascent stage) that houses the astronauts, and a lower part (decent stage) that holds the braking rocket used to land on the moon. When leaving the moon, the ascent stage blasts off, leaving just the decent stage on the moon. In the film, the entire LEM is shown sitting on the moon, which is impossible since the astronauts came back to earth.

Suggested correction: These movies aren't set in a specific time.

Credit for the following goes to another member here, Super Grover, who actually answered a question about the dates the films are set a while ago. These dates are estimates. The intro of 'PotC: The Curse of the Black Pearl' takes place mid-1720s (roughly 1725), when Will and Elizabeth are around 11/12 yrs old. Then eight years later the duo are about 19-20 yrs old during the main part of 'The Curse of the Black Pearl', then around a year later are set to marry in 'PotC: Dead Man's Chest' followed by the consecutive 'At World's End', which take place around 1733 / 1734. The next movies 'PotC: On Stranger Tides' and 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' (after the intro) take place in the 1750s. Again, credit to Super Grover.

They're set in the 1700's. In "On Stranger Tides", King George wants Jack to find the Fountain of Youth before King Ferdinand, who reigned from 1746 - 1759.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn picture

Factual error: Tintin says they only have one bullet left. That bullet is in the magazine, and since it is a semi automatic, there should also be one in the chamber, meaning they would have two bullets. Even if they only had that paticular bullet, he doesn't cock the gun, meaning the chamber would be empty and therefore wouldn't fire.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 picture

Rio (2011)

Rio picture

Factual error: Towards the end when the smugglers are trying to takeoff from the airport with the float coming at them, Marcel (the lead smuggler) tells Tipa (the fat smuggler) to pull up because they're about to hit the float. Tipa quickly pulls back on the flight controls to takeoff. The scene switches to an outside shot of the plane's wing where the "flap" moves to the down position, but pulling back on the controls manipulates the "elevator" (on the tail) which would cause it to pivot upward. The flaps are controlled separately. (01:20:40)

The Grey picture

Factual error: The wolves in this movie must be some sort of mutant super wolf. North American Grey wolves are not lion sized killing machines. They are typically smaller, by weight, than an average German Shepherd.

Hanna picture

Factual error: In the film Hanna talks about there being 8 planets. the film also suggests that Hanna and her father have been living in the forest for her whole life of 16 years and her only knowledge coming from books. it was 1996 when the government had any traces of Hanna's father, so that makes the film set in 2011/12. so if she has only ever got her information from books published before she was born, she would still think there are 9 planets, because Pluto wasn't officially named a dwarf planet until 2006. The Eagle picture

Factual error: While Hadrian's Wall itself is accurately depicted, its use and meaning to the Romans is not. The Wall did not demarcate a line north of which no Romans soldier would venture out of fear of the locals. The area north of the wall was too sparsely populated to produce a serious threat to a sizable Roman force and the Romans would have regularly patrolled there. In fact just two years after the events in the movie are set, the Romans constructed the Antonine Wall 60 miles north of Hadrian's Wall, running approximately between today's Glasgow and Edinburgh. The plot more closely matches the experience of the Romans in Germania in AD9 when three Roman legions were wiped out in the Teutoburg Forest. The Romans went to great lengths to recover the Eagles lost in this defeat and did so through a combination of diplomacy and military successes.
