Plot hole: The whole concept of how Brandon was stop-lossed was obviously done to further the plot and is in no way accurate on how a soldier was stop-lossed in reality during the Iraq War. Apparently, he returned from Iraq, was scheduled to leave the Army a few days later, and was told he was stop-lossed on his ETS (discharge) date and was going back in a matter of weeks. First of all, no soldier returned from Iraq and got discharged a few days later, there are mandatory procedures required that usually take up to 90 days after return to complete. As for the stop-loss itself, it was implemented a minimum of 90 days prior to a planned deployment. If you can forget those oversights by the writer, then when at the end of the movie Brandon returned to deploy after all he wouldn't have just been let back in with open arms by his chain of command. Considering the charges he could have received (Disrespect to a Commissioned Officer, Disobeying a Lawful Order, Assault, and Absent without Leave), he would have at a minimum been demoted one rank. More than likely, instead of deploying, he would have faced a court-martial or been discharged. A Lieutenant Colonel wouldn't have been able to save him from the charges at that point like he claimed in the deal he would give Brandon for returning to base. Facts about the actual process of stop-loss were either not researched or were blatantly ignored to further an anti-war agenda from the writer of the movie.
Factual error: Benjamin leaves his family at some point after his daughter's first birthday (1970), and definitely before her second birthday. But a 1973-1977 El Camino is parked in front of their house as he rides away on his motorcycle. (02:24:15)
Other mistake: When the setup for the first match is announced, the Ram is said to fight Tommy Rotten "for the strap", which is pro wrestling slang for a belt, meaning it was a title match. But after the match, which he won legitimately, The Ram is not announced as a new champion, nor is he ever referred to as such, and no belt is given to him after the match.
Continuity mistake: Right at the beginning, the kid's hand keeps swapping from being on the middle of the paper to on the upper part, between shots.
Continuity mistake: When Speedman is by himself in the rain, he puts down the iPod and picks up the Chapstick with the white cap on. The next shot, the cap is off. (00:49:00)
Continuity mistake: During the opening credits, Zohan walks surrounded by girls. On the far left of the screen is a girl with a green bikini and large sunglasses. When the angle changes she's suddenly moved to the far right end of the screen.
Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the film, when Pitka is using the voice-over machine, it is a black machine. In the bar scene however, the machine is a pale-ish orange color. The orange-ish machine is also used in the ending scene before the song.
Revealing mistake: When the cop makes a mold of Dave's face from the impact site, there are nostrils in the mold, which are not possible to make with such an imprint.
Continuity mistake: When the Ace Gang are sitting down talking about the snogging scale, Rosie has a lip gloss, passes it to Jas, Jas uses it, gives it back to Rosie, who gives it to Ellen, Ellen uses it, then gives it to Georgia. In the next shot, Rosie has it again without it being passed back along.
Visible crew/equipment: When the subway train with Annie and Will departs (the train goes to the right side of the screen), there's a close-up of the train. Then, in the lower right corner (during two seconds) you can see a camera, a cameraman and two crew members next to it, reflected on the windows and the shiny surface. (00:46:00)
Continuity mistake: As Ben and Jane drive down the road, it is raining. After they hit the ghost, the scene fades to black. When the scene fades back in, it's heavily snowing, and a previously nonexistent thick sheet of snow is covering the ground. As they get out of the car, they start talking. During their conversation, there is a quick cut, and with this, it instantly stops snowing.
Continuity mistake: When Zack is talking to Deacon at the hockey game, there's a water bottle between them. It disappears during the rest of the scene, even if the two characters are not seen drinking. (00:35:00)
Continuity mistake: Early in the film, there is a scene where Uma Thurman and Colin Firth are in their bedroom and he brings her a cup of coffee. He places both cups on a tray then places it on the bed and frequently in the scene, the cups change from either being side by side, or one placed inside the other.
Other mistake: The date on the surveillance footage from the camera in the Russian Embassy says 01.05.08, implying that it is either January or May (depending on which date notation is being used, American mm.dd.yy or Russian dd.mm.yy). However, it is fall/autumn outside, as there are dead leaves everywhere. And when Katie calls Harry we can see that his cell phone shows 17/9/08. (00:48:00)
Continuity mistake: When Oskar shows his Rubik's Cube to Eli and explains how it works, one side is all white except one square, which differs from being red vs. blue between shots.
Continuity mistake: In scene two, when Rachel is getting ready in the bathroom with her friends, she is wearing her shoes. Chloe (the dog) is mad because she wants to be fed, and after she is given dog food, puts a clump into Rachel's shoes. She should have not had her shoes on in the bathroom in order for this to make sense.
Factual error: When Meryl Streep is walking outside and talking to Mrs. Miller about the potential abuses of her son, you can see a basketball court in the background and on the court is a 3-point line. The movie is supposed to take place in 1964 and the 3 point line wasn't introduced until 1979/1980. (01:10:20)
Continuity mistake: When Tinker Bell tries to fix the music box there is a leaf in the box, when she is done it's gone.
Continuity mistake: The pile of eggs that Bud knocks over in the security video becomes noticeably smaller when the angle changes.
Factual error: The doctor parks his car under the house before the storm hits. Since the house is on the beach and the wind and water hit the house, there is no way his car would start and be so clean after such a storm.
