One of the running gags in the series in Steele's penchant for quoting or referencing old movies for inspiration. Near the end of this episode, Steele is asked how they will get the diamond back. He says "The Thomas Crowne Affair, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, 1968." 16 years later, Pierce Brosnan (who plays Remington Steele) would play the title role in the 1999 remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair."
NBC decided to cancel the show at the end of the fourth season due to poor ratings, but at the last minute the network finalised its decision to renew the series. The surprise renewal of the series for 1986-87 not only cost Pierce Brosnan the role of James Bond in "The Living Daylights", but also Stephanie Zimbalist a role in "Robocop".
