Grey's Anatomy (2005) - 97 mistakes in entire show

Character mistake: In episode 5-18, "Elevator Love Letter," when Dr Shepphard walks into the OR to start the brain surgery on Izzy, after already scrubbing, he touches his forehead and surgical cap. He would not have done this as he would then contaminate himself, forcing him to re-scrub.

Continuity: In episode 6-02, "Goodbye," in the scene where Izzy is getting chemo, the amount of popsicle that is bitten off on Meridith's pop changes from more to almost nothing from shot to shot.

Continuity: In seaon 5, episode 16, Dr. Hunt brings a clear drink over to Christina. In the next shot, Christina takes a sip of the drink and it is dark. In the next shot, the drink is back on the table and it's clear again.

Continuity: Izzie's glasses disappear from her face, when the interns are getting the gurney from the airpad.

Continuity: When the interns are sitting on the beds, Izzie stretches her arms upwards twice between shots, when talking about geriatrics.

Continuity: George puts his stethoscope on twice, while everybody is getting ready in the locker room.

Continuity: When George is telling Gloria that her husband died, the woman standing next to Gloria puts her hand on her shoulder three times.

Continuity: Christina turns her head away twice, when Meredith is picked for surgery with Derek.

Continuity: Just before Meredith answers the question about the "common causes of post-op fever", her file opens itself between shots.

Continuity: Dr. Bailey points out four pagers for the four interns. However somehow there are two pagers left over.

Continuity: When Derek comes out of surgery he removes his hat. In the next shot it's back on.

Visible crew/equipment: When Meredith is asking Dr. Bailey for Derek, a cameraman is reflected in the glass panels beside them.

Continuity: When everybody is talking in the canteen, Merediths arm moves from down on her chair, to up in the air between shots.

Continuity: When Meredith and Christina are trying to tell Derek about Katie, he gets into the lift and the door begins to shut. In the next shot the door is back open.

Continuity: When Meredith and Derek are at the elevator, Derek is on a palm pilot. Between shots, he closes it twice.

Continuity: When Meredith drops all the files in the elevator to make out with Derek, they are in a different position from when she picks them up.

Continuity: After George finishes brushing his teeth, he has a smear of toothpaste left on his cheek which disappears between shots.

Continuity: When Meredith is walking over to the beds, the cooler and packet of crisps that she is holding swap hands between shots.

Continuity: Viper has a green headband on with a white bandage underneath. But as he leaves, then kisses Meredith, the bandage has vanished.

Continuity: When Christina is talking to Shelley about allowing her husbands organs to be donored, the girls crayons on the desk keep changing position.

Continuity: When the interns are asked who wants to assist Burke, everyone raises their hands. When they lower them, Christina lowers her arm twice.

Continuity: When Christina is talking to Shelley about her husbands organs, the clipboards on the table in front of her keep changing their positions.

Continuity: When Izzy, George and Christina walk over to the vendor, talking about Dr. Sheppard and Meredith, Izzy is in the middle, eating snacks from a packet. Between shots she alternates from holding the pack either up or down.

Visible crew/equipment: When they arrive at work near the beginning, as Meredith exits the car, and walks past, the boom mike is reflected in the car, in front of her, following her along.

Continuity: At the beginning of the episode, Izzy takes a purple plastic cup of coffee with her to work. In the parking lot she now has a coffee in a disposable paper cup. Then in the locker room, she is back to having the purple plastic cup of coffee.

Continuity: When Addison shows up at the end of the episode, the umbrella she holds keeps changing position and swapping hands between shots.

Continuity: When everyone sits down for lunch, Izzy's bottle of water jumps from her tray to in her hand (as she drinks) between shots.

Continuity: When Meredith is trying to give George the shot of Penicillin the gloves on her hands disappear and reappear a few times.

Continuity: When George kisses Olivia's forehead as he 'dumps' her, he embraces her head with his hands, but in the next closeup his hands aren't on her head.

Continuity: We see a nurse writing down "Yang, C" on the assignments board; note the handwriting. Later, when Burke notices that Christina's name is on the board, the handwriting of "Yang, C" is completely different and other minor writing differences are noticeable too.

Continuity: When Derek sits in the rocking chair in the room with the premature baby and then Addison starts listing their relationship options, the blanket hanging over the back of the rocking chair constantly changes position, evident by the green stripes on it.

Continuity: As Meredith tries to get in to see Christina, but Bailey walks over to stop her, Meredith is putting on a white surgical mask. In the frontal shot she ties the white straps of the mask into bows. But in the next shot from behind the straps hang loose and aren't in bows.

Continuity: When Meredith tries to get into the OR to see Christina, Bailey walks over to the door to stop her, and they talk. But in the final shot of Christina, you can see Bailey's hands on her head, even though Bailey is at the door with Meredith.

Continuity: When everyone rushes Christina out of the OR after she collapses, Izzy suddenly loses her blue scrubs hat between shots, with no time to remove it herself.

Continuity: When Ellis Grey is shouting at George, calling him Thatch, Alex and Meredith run to the open door of her room. But in some shots you can see they are no longer in the doorway but are then suddenly back again.

Continuity: When Derek and Richard are in the lift talking, you can see Richard's head bandages under his hat. But when he removes his hat, his head is bare.

Continuity: When Meredith and Christina lay on the grass in the park, Meredith's hands are on her chest but are by her sides in the next closeup.

Continuity: When Derek and Addison are examining the premature baby and then begin to argue, Addison's elbow is resting on the glass case in some shots, but is instantly down in others.

Continuity: When George askes Richard Webber if he could help examine Ellis Grey, the extras in the background walk down twice and suddenly appear and vanish.

Continuity: When Dr. Miranda Bailey tries to resuscitate/reanimate her patient Jeremiah, the assistant puts the anesthesia bag down next to Jeremiah's shoulder, in the next shot however, she has the bag back in her hands and lies it down once more.

Continuity: When Alex walks over to the desk that Derek is sitting behind, with the couple arguing in the background, there is a box of tissues with a tissue pulled so that it is almost out. In the next shot the tissue is barely out of the box.

Audio problem: When Alex is walking over to Derek, watch the couple (the man with the gunshot wound in his head and his wife) in the background. The wife is shouting at his husband but her lips are not even moving correctly.

Continuity: In the bar, when Bailey tells Derek to go sit by someone who cares, she lifts her glass up from the bar table, to her lips, twice between shots.

Continuity: When Derek talks with Mr. Chue in the rain under their umbrellas, in one shot Mr. Chue takes a big puff on his cigar. But in the next shot his face is relaxed and it is clear he didn't inhale; and then he takes the same puff again instantly anyway.

Continuity: When Alex and George are stuck in the elevator with the doors slightly open, with the gunshot wound victim, there is blue paper lining the slight opening in the elevator doors. However this paper disappears in some shots, the reappears again.

Continuity: When Alex and George are trying to get out of the elevator that they are stuck in, watch the monitor screen attached to the gunshot victim. The lines on the monitor keep instantly changing appearance (from straight, to jagged, and then back, etc.), especially the middle blue line.

Continuity: When Meredith, Christina and Izzy are standing by the hospital hall balcony talking, the nurse, doctor and patient extras walking and passing in the background are inconsistent from shot to shot. In addition, the position of the three ladies arms / hands on the banister keeps changing during this scene.

Continuity: When Nurse Debbie gives Christina all the patient files, the 'explosive diarrhoea' file that she puts at the very top of the pile disappears in the next shot and then reappears in the next shot, but turned the other way round.

Continuity: When everyone is sitting outside at the cafeteria eating lunch, in one shot Christina removes the red lid of her smoothie bottle but in the next shot it is suddenly back on. Then it keeps changing from either being on or off.

Continuity: When Christina tries to talk to Burke about their relationship, he ignores her and she walks over to the banister and leans her head on her left hand. But in the next shot her whole left arm is down on the banister rail.

Continuity: At the start of the episode when George drops his bagel, he drops it with the white napkin stuck to it. In the very next shot when the pigeon begins to eat it, the napkin has totally vanished.

Visible crew/equipment: When the pigeon starts eating George's bagel which he dropped on the pavement, you can clearly see a red clasp with a long wire attached to its left leg so that it won't fly away.

Continuity: When Meredith puts the Hello Kitty plaster on her forehead in her car, she puts it on upside-down. When she reaches the elevator it is now on the right way up (it is unlikely she would have removed it just to place it back on the right way up.) In addition when she is in the elevator, from shot to shot the position of her fringe (and how much of it covers the plaster) keeps changing.

Continuity: When Savannah is arguing across the table at Weiss about her possibly having cancer, in a shot from behind she puts her left hand on top of her right. In the next shot her hands are in a different position.

Audio problem: When Derek shouts over the second floor banister to Weiss, Weiss walks over to the staircase and says "Derek, I've been looking for you," yet his mouth doesn't move.

Continuity: When Christina removes the beak from Stu's leg and has it on the end of a pair of tweezers, she shows it to George so that it is pointed at him. In the very next shot the beak it pointed at her.

Continuity: When Holden's son Colby comes out of his Dad's hospital room, the sliding door doesn't shut behind him and is slightly open. In the next shot it is suddenly fully shut.

Continuity: When Addison is talking to Derek on the boat, when she asks him about having his day off, her bag strap falls off, onto her arm. In the next shot it's up on her shoulder again.

Continuity: When Holden is talking to Meredith about whether he wants the surgery or not, his hand is on this chest, then isn't, then is again.

Continuity: When Alex comes in to talk to Meredith who is sitting on the floor, Meredith has two files and there is another file sitting up on the table next to her. By the end of the talk Meredith now has all three files although she never reached up for the one on the table.

Continuity: When George's Dad runs his fingers down George's face and streaks lines of blood on his cheeks, in the following shots the appearance of the blood streaks changes.

Continuity: When Derek, Burke and Webber are talking in front of the board, the position of the bag strap on Derek's shoulder keeps changing.

Continuity: At the end when Derek is talking to Addison in the rain, a large wet strand of hair falls down onto his forehead. In the very next shot it is gone.

Continuity: When one of George's brothers accidentally shoots his Dad in the ass with his gun, in the next shots the brothers alternately hold their guns up/down.

Continuity: Olivia walks into an elevator with Izzy already inside and they go up 3 floors. When Izzy leaves the elevator, it's the same floor from which Olivia came (same equipment and decor).

Continuity: When Dr. O'Malley is talking with Carl Murphy in his room, the position of the circle of containers (with the leeches inside them) changes between the shots during the scene.

Continuity: When Christina is in the locker room eating a packet of crisps, everyone comes in and she asks them if they have any decent food. In the next shot you can see she is now holding an opened bar of chocolate. Then in the following shot we actually see Meredith hand her a wrapped bar, which Christina then opens (and the previously opened bar is gone, of course.)

Visible crew/equipment: When Burke hands Christina the cup of coffee as she leaves for the hospital, blue screens can be seen in his eyeglasses.

Visible crew/equipment: When Burke and Christina are walking along and Burke asks her if there is anything he should know about her religious holidays, you can see crewmembers, a boom and a stage light reflected in the glass running alongside them.

Continuity: Derek is talking to Addison while he takes his iPod, winds the earphones around it and puts it in his pocket. But then as he stands, the iPod is now clipped to his shirt and the earphones are hanging around his neck!

Continuity: At the beginning when Christina walks out and notices the small tree on the table, Burke lifts his red mug off of the counter to his mouth twice between two different shots.

Continuity: Just before George withdraws some blood from Bex's arm, her right sleeve is rolled up when Addison is beside her talking. In the next shot as Bex is drawing, the sleeve is suddenly rolled back down and George pulls it back up again to get some blood.

Continuity: At the beginning when Derek is going to cook the trout and Addison is angry at him, the fridge door is shut. But in the next shot it is open a little bit and Derek closes it.

Continuity: When Derek gives Meredith a white bag to hyperventilate into when she is crying in the closet, the large orange sticker on the side of the bag disappears and then reappears again.

Continuity: After Meredith puts her hand on the bomb, everyone stands up. It shows Christina and Burke standing up looking at her, But in the following wideshot Dr. Burke is suddenly crouched down again.

Continuity: At the beginning of the episode when Izzie is getting a wheelchair for Dr. Bailey, Bailey's water breaks and it goes all over George's shoes. But when she is hauled into the chair her jeans are completely dry.

Continuity: The scene where the bomb explodes shows the bomb squad captain walking toward the end of a hallway. Just as the bomb explodes you can see he is about 5-6 feet away from the end of the hallway where another bomb squad tech is waiting. After the explosion the scene cuts to Meredith flying backwards then to a shot of windows being blown out then back to a rear shot of Meredith hitting the floor. Notice here that a second floor is not visible at the end of the hallway. The scene finishes with a final aftermath shot of the hallway as the debris settles. Here we see an entirely different hallway with a visible second floor and the end of the hallway extended by about 10 feet.

Continuity: When Christina notices the bomb squad moving Meredith down the hallway with the gurney, she leaves the room and removes her scrub jacket and hands it to a nurse. When she is out in the hall and reaches them, she suddenly has the scrub jacket back on again.

Continuity: After Alex and Izzie have had sex in the closet, just before Izzie leaves in the first shot her hair is hanging in front of her shoulders. In the next shot as she walks out, it is all pulled back behind them.

Continuity: When Izzie starts kissing Alex in the closet, as he tells her to stop she rests her hand on the back of his head. In the next shot it is on his cheek.

Audio problem: When Alex pages Izzie and she comes outside, he presses her against the wall and then gives her a cupcake. When she takes it she goes "Oooh!" but her mouth is closed.

Continuity: At the beginning when Meredith is laying on her bed, her head is dead centre on her pillow. In the next closeup her head is right on the edge, almost falling off of it.

Continuity: When Derek is talking to Meredith on the hospital balcony and they are eating a sandwich each, in one shot Derek is taking a bite from his sandwich, then in the next shot he is suddenly holding it down at waist level. He then raises it to take another bite and you can see the previous bite has gone and the sandwich is whole again.

Continuity: When Callie places the hockey player's hand X-Ray on the chart, in the first shot it is on the left of the board. In the next it is dead centre and then back to being on the left again.

Continuity: When everyone is in the locker room nearing the end of the episode Alex starts to shout at George. As he does, George removes his white coat twice between shots.

Continuity: When Addison gives Derek the juju cocoa, he raises it to his lips three times in different shots, then is instantly holding it down by his waist in the next.

Continuity: When Izzie is looking at the patient board, there are some lines on it which have been wiped out. But in the next scene we actually see Meredith walk to the board and wipe these exact same lines off (even though they were previously rubbed out...)

Continuity: When Addison and Alex are talking to Rose about tying her fallopian tubes, her necklace jumps from under or over her shirt between different shots.

Visible crew/equipment: When Izzie closes the door with blinds hanging on it, before going to sit on Denny's bedside, you can see a crewmember with their filming equipment reflected in the glass of the picture hanging behind her.

Audio problem: When Meredith and Marshall are talking, he calls her Dr. Grey and she corrects him to call her Meredith. When he replies saying "Meredith" his mouth doesn't move.

Revealing: When Burke and Alex find out that the heart donor patient is dead, and rush to revive him, in one shot of the donor's face you clearly see him blinking his eyelids.

Visible crew/equipment: After Burke and Alex board the helicopter to get the heart transplant, in the shot of Christina backing away from it, you can see a red-capped crewmember and the camera reflected in the chopper's window.

Continuity: At the very start of the episode when it shows Burke laying on the floor after being shot, there is a very large pool of blood with his glasses right next to the blood. But in the next shot there is no pool of blood anymore but it returns in the next. Additionally, the pair of glasses change position.

Continuity: When Chief Webber is sitting alone in the dark his watch says 6:30, seconds later Dr. Bailey comes in and tells him that Denny Duquette died at 7:42 that evening.

Continuity: During the operation on the Asian girl from the market, a stitch breaks and Christina is covered with spurting blood, including all over her mask. When she turns to leave the OR, the all-over splatter on her mask has turned to dribble-like streaks instead.

Continuity: When Meredith's talking to Lexie in the clinic, in one shot from Lexie's right there's a chunk of hair hanging in front of her ear. We cut to a shot from the other side, then back, and without her touching it, it's now neatly tucked back.

Character mistake: Ms. Bitzer says she's booked a trip to Iceland to experience the sun never setting. While the sun does set quite late there, Iceland is located south of the polar circle and does not have midnight sun. And either way, season four has been established as taking place after summer, so there wouldn't be midnight sun anywhere.
