Across whole show

Updated recently Continuity: In the 7th episode of season 5, the scenes before Robin and Barney leave the diner vary depending on the angle. From outside we see that Robin fixes Barney's suit before they leave, but from the inside she doesn't.

Updated recently Continuity: In the 7th episode of Season 5, the scenes when the "Storm-Trooper" (actually, a robot) passes by the window do not match. The first time we see it, from the outside, as soon as he passes, Robin notices him and points towards him, but the second time, from the inside, she doesn't point at him.

Pilot (season 1, episode 1)

Mistake Continuity: When Marshall and Barney are talking in the back of the cab, the red-edged black book on the dashboard moves back and forth between shots, though the cab is stationary.

Intervention (season 4, episode 4)

Mistake Continuity: In this episode, both Ted and Marshall mention that Lucy, Stella's daughter, is 7 years old, when in the previous season (13th episode of 3rd season, Ten Sessions) Stella states: "I have a daughter. Her name is Lucy, she's 8." Did she grow younger?

Slutty Pumpkin (season 1, episode 6)

Mistake Character mistake: Robin says in this episode that she never played team sports and was always a loner. However in a later episode, (The Prom episode) she mentions she missed her prom due to field hockey nationals.

Swarley (season 2, episode 7)

Mistake Audio problem: Lily starts chasing Chloe down the street. She hits a pipe. If you listen closely, you'll hear that she groans before the metallic hit sound effect.

Monday Night Football (season 2, episode 14)

Mistake Continuity: When the gang are about to watch the Super Bowl, Marshall is holding a chicken wing which vanishes from his hand when the camera angle changes.

Mistake Continuity: In the classroom, Marshall squirts juice on to the boy's clothes then puts the juice pouch flat on the table. In the next shot, the pouch is standing upright.

Swarley (season 2, episode 7)

Mistake Continuity: After Ted's date Janine smashes the car windshield, the glass is undamaged in the next shot.

Pilot (season 1, episode 1)

Mistake Continuity: When the group are at the bar, just as Ted asks Barney's opinion, Marshall's beer bottle goes from at his mouth to on the table in a second.

Slapsgiving (season 3, episode 9)

Mistake Continuity: Marshall turns on the computer, and a readout pops up clearly displaying 2h 45m left on the countdown. He then says "look at that - that means we're in the final hour left of the countdown".

We're Not From Here (season 3, episode 2)

Mistake Continuity: When Ted, Barney and the girls are heading to the South Bronx in the cab, keep watching Colleen's head, near when Barney says, "Somebody's been watching too many Seinfeld reruns", her head moves instantly between shots, from looking towards Ted to looking at Barney.

The Platinum Rule (season 3, episode 11)

Mistake Continuity: Barney blocks Ted's path by standing in front of the door. Watch his position as he says, "Ted, don't do this" for the second time, he has his right arm over his head. When the camera changes angles he has it down.

Brunch (season 2, episode 3)

Mistake Continuity: During the scene in "Marshall and Lily's part", after they leave the bathroom, we can see Robin and Virginia (Ted's Mom) talking in the back. Their hand motions do not match the later scene of the "Robin and Ted's part". Obviously, they were shot separately.

The Possimpible (season 4, episode 14)

Mistake Continuity: During the scene back in college, when Marshall and Lily are listening to Dr. X's show, at the first shot of the radio, you can see some popcorn there already, although Marshall has not thrown any, yet. Even if you claim he's been throwing constantly, a few shots later they vanish, and reappear.

The Stinsons (season 4, episode 15)

Mistake Continuity: In this episode they call Barney's mom "Loretta", but in the 10th episode of the 3rd season, "The Yips", Rhonda "Man-Maker" French calls her Patty.

Purple Giraffe (season 1, episode 2)

Mistake Continuity: After Ted's Saturday night party (second of the three), when Ted, Lily and Marshall are sitting on the couch, numerous things change or suddenly appear behind them. Clothing is instantly on the back of the yellow chair and black chair, a wood chair appears, furniture moves, etc.

The Chain Of Screaming (season 3, episode 15)

Mistake Continuity: The ice cream Robin's eating in Ted's car keeps changing shapes between shots.

Mistake Audio problem: At the very beginning, after Ted says, "A new car", Lily's lips move, but she doesn't say anything. Obviously her dialogue was cut in post-production.

No Tomorrow (season 3, episode 12)

Mistake Continuity: Towards the end, when Ted says, "You just yelled at me", look at Marshall. He's about to take a sip of his drink, but when the camera cuts to a different angle, the mug's nowhere near his lips anymore.
