The Nanny (1993) - 40 mistakes in entire show

Continuity: In the opening sequence, Fran arrives at the Scheffield house with a case of make-up. When we see a shot of the makeup head on, one can see two lipsticks at the far left corner of the case. When we see a shot of the case from behind, the lipstick is now at the right corner of the case.

Continuity: None of the Sheffield children are aged properly over the course of the series. It's established that Grace is 6 years old in season 1, but two years later in season 3 she's 10. Maggie is 18 at the end of season 5 but turns 21 years old in early season 6. And finally, Brighton is in seventh grade in season 2 and somehow is graduating high school at the end of season 6 (when he should be only a junior, and nothing about Brighton's character would suggest he's capable of skipping a grade).

Other: In some episodes, there is a small room between the kitchen and dining room (the "Butler's Pantry"), but in other episodes the same door leads directly into the dining room, and in still others it leads into a passage.

Continuity: When the Chinese food is delivered, Fran's hair is very flat and the curls are loose. In the next scene, she goes to talk to Maxwell and her hair is noticeably curlier.

Continuity: In the dining room, CC is wearing a scarf over her head as part of her "safari" outfit. When the shot shifts to a close-up of her looking horrified at the thought of taking the kids to the Zoo on her own, the scarf is suddenly around her neck.

Continuity: When CC and Maxwell arrive at the wedding, CC has no scarf around her neck. When the scene cuts to her shortly after arriving there is a large brightly-coloured scarf around her neck, and two shots later it has disappeared again.

Continuity: When Sylivia is telling Fran about her birth, she raises her right hand and has her left hand on her hip. When the shot changes her left hand is raised and her right hand is on her hip.

Continuity: In the opening titles sequence, cartoon Fran is thrown out of the bridal shop and the doors are closed behind her. When she hails a taxi in the next shot the doors are open again.

Revealing: As Chloe Simpson is leaving the mansion at the end of the show, she trips over Fran's foot without touching her. She starts to trip about half a foot before Fran's shoe.

Continuity: When Maxwell is talking to Brighton about the battle of the sexes, he puts his hands in his pockets. The shot changes and suddenly his hands are at his sides and he puts them in his pockets again.

Continuity: When CC takes the pile of showgirl resumes from Maxwell in the office, she holds them with both hands. When the shot changes, she is holding them with one arm under the pile and the other hand leafing through them.

Continuity: In the kitchen, while Fran is telling Maxwell about Brighton and Tiffany in the shower, the glass of juice on the counter appears and disappears between shots.

Continuity: In the second gym scene, while Fran is talking to the gym teacher, Maggie's arms change from being crossed to hanging at her side between shots.

Continuity: In the first office scene, when Fran picks up Allan Beck's resume and pages through it she is holding the pages in the middle. When the shot changes to Maxwell and he says "Yes, but I'm still flammable", watch Fran's hands in the corner of the screen. She's holding the pages by the corner.

Continuity: In the kitchen at the beginning, Fran pours milk into three glasses. After she fills the third glass, she starts to put the milk down. In the next shot, she is holding the bottle up to the glass again and pours some more milk before putting the bottle down.

Continuity: In the first gym scene, the gym teacher has a blue gym bag in her hands when she talks to Fran's face. When the shot changes and the gym teacher walks away the bag is suddenly over her shoulder.

Continuity: As Fran, Val and Maxwell are preparing to go out on the town, Maxwell's arms are hanging at his side. When the shot changes and he says "Excuse me", his hands are suddenly in his pockets.

Continuity: When Fran and Maxwell are in the office, Max sits down at the desk and rests his hands on the desk in front of him. When the shot changes, he is resting on his arm and writing with his other hand.

Continuity: When Maxwell says "I'm not in the mood" in the lounge, Fran's hands are at her side. In the next shot her hands are on her hips.

Revealing: When Fran is on the private jet, the champagne sitting between her and Cathy doesn't move through all the turbulence, showing that it is the camera shaking and not the plane.

Continuity: In the kitchen, when Fran and Maxwell are tidying up, Maxwell picks up the bottle of chocolate sauce from the table. When he walks to the sink, the bottle is suddenly back on the table, and a few shots later Fran picks it up again.

Continuity: While Fran and Maxwell are changing the baby in the kitchen, the jar of baby food moves from next to the baby's head to next to his feet between shots.

Revealing: When Fran and Maxwell are changing the baby's diaper in the kitchen, the baby "pees", but the pee shoots from the baby's chest.

Continuity: When CC and Maxwell are hiding in CC's closet, the coat CC is hiding behind changes between shots. Some shots she is hiding behind Charles Haste's grey coat and other shots Fran's gold one.

Other: When Sylvia is outside the Sheffield mansion she says "I wonder if my daughter Fran is at home? I will see if she is" the doorbell rings as soon as she finishes that line, but you can see both her hands are visible. She can't have rung the doorbell.

Continuity: When Fran and Sylvia are in Sylvia's kitchen, Sylvia raises her right hand when she says "Its reform". When the shot changes she has her left hand raised and her right hand is on her hip.

Continuity: In the final scene in the lounge, there is a plaster bust on the hall table that appears and re-appears between shots.

Continuity: At the end of this episode Fran is on the phone with the people from Jeopardy saying she only got 5 boxes of the rice-a-roni but when they show her again talking to Maxwell, Fran now has 6 boxes of rice-a-roni.

Continuity: When Fran and Val are in the bus stop, Val's arms change position between shots throughout the scene.

Continuity: Watch Brighton's arms in the opening scene in the Kitchen. The banana he is holding and his arms move positions between shots.

Continuity: When Maxwell says he is interested in "that lady from the Schubert organisation", Fran puts her fists on her hips. When the shot changes and she says "Lipo her butt", she has her unfurled hands on her hips, lower down.

Continuity: When Sylvia comes in and wakes Fran, she puts her hands on her Hips when she says "grow old with dignity", and when the shot changes her hands are at her sides.

Continuity: When Maxwell shakes Fran awake the first time (in her dream), his hands are on her shoulders. When the shot changes his hands are suddenly on her legs.

Continuity: When Fran is trying on her shoes in the shoe shop, her legs are crossed. Then in the next shot they are instantly uncrossed and she stands up.

Plot hole: When Fran is waiting to ambush Elizabeth Taylor, Maxwell says "the kids left for school an hour ago", but Gracie comes running down the stairs right after that with no comment from anyone.

Continuity: Just before Fran opens the door for her date, her handbag switches hands between shots when she says, "It's cuter on me."

Continuity: When Fran and Val are in the sports bar in the beginning, the popcorn in their hair changes between shots. This is especially obvious on Val.

Continuity: In the dining room during breakfast, while Fran is talking, Niles starts to turn away from the window towards Fran with a teapot in his hands. When the shot changes he is facing the window again and turns around with the teapot a second time.

Continuity: When Fran's date Jack first enters the house, Fran closes the door behind him. A couple of shots later, the door is open and Fran is closing it again.

Continuity: At the very beginning of the episode Fran thanks Max for telling her he loves her, and Gracie says she's sick of hearing it, and she walks into the living room. In the next scene, Fran tells everyone in the family that Max said he loved her and Gracie is surprised, like she never heard it before.
