Roswell (1999) - 59 mistakes in entire show

Plot hole: Liz first discovers Max's secret due to a science class experiment in which she sees his alien cells; yet later in the series, the four are told by Nesedo that they have human bodies.

Continuity: When Max, Michael, and Isabel are at the taco stand discussing Max's saving of Liz's life, you can see Michael hand Max the bottle of Tabasco the three are sharing, and when the shot switches, Michael again has the bottle of Tabasco.

Continuity: After the car gets pulled over and the sheriff says, "You kids be careful out there," Max shifts from looking at the sheriff to looking straight down between shots.

Plot hole: In the lab when Liz makes the slides of her cheek cells and the cells from Max's pencil, the first time she doesn't add stain and the second time she does. If she's going to be a molecular biologist she really ought to learn to apply techniques consistently.

Continuity: When Max heals Liz, he has his left hand on her stomach (pinky down, thumb up). But when we see the silver handprint, it is of a right hand (pinky up, thumb down).

Continuity: At the restaurant where Max, Michael and Isabel are talking, Max is sitting at the end of the table. Isabel walks up with her food and sits down right next to him. The tables have bench seats, so she can't just sit down - she would have to step high over the bench or sit on the other end and slide next to him.

Continuity: The sheriff gives his insurance information to Maria in the cafe and she holds it close to her chest. When he says "I can protect you" her hands skip to on top of the counter.

Continuity: In the UFO Center, Max extends the money to the mother twice.

Continuity: At the Crashdown, as Liz walks up to Max after the orthodontists look at her bite, Liz's order book skips from in her pocket to in front of her.

Continuity: In the scene where Michael and Maria were pulled over for speeding down the highway, Maria's seatbelt switches from being belted to not belted and back again. When it is seen from Michael's side of the car the belt is connected, but when it is seen from Maria's side of the car it is not.

Continuity: In Isabel's room, the Native American deputy turns to his right to leave the room. Isabel asks, "Which reservation?" and he's suddenly turned to his left.

Continuity: Near the beginning of the episode, Isabel walks into Max's room with a photograph. In one shot she switches it to her right hand. Cut back out and it's in her left again.

Continuity: In the cave, River Dog is holding the torch in his right hand, but as Liz walks away from him he is lit from his left.

Continuity: When Max and Liz are driving on the old highway in the beginning, a bunch of Liz's hair appears across her face between a wide shot and a closeup.

Continuity: When Moss and Topolsky are talking in the alley after the hospital, Moss' arms on the door keep shifting. First he's leaning on the car with his palms, then he's leaning on his elbows with his arms crossed, and later they're crossed the other way.

Continuity: In the shot where Amy DeLuca is talking to Geoff Parker, she's trying to sell him alien drink stirrers. As Jim Valenti's coming in the front door, she has nothing in her hair; but when she looks up to see him, suddenly the stirrers are in her hair.

Continuity: At the Crashdown, when Isabel says, "Fine, I'm not an alien," Alex's hands flit from on the table to gesturing in the air.

Continuity: When Max and Liz are talking about the basketball game in front of Max's locker, Max shuts his locker door twice.

Continuity: As Max and his mother are talking in the park she asks him about finding his real parents. She takes her hand off his shoulder and crosses her arms, but in the next shot her hand is back on his shoulder.

Continuity: When Max, Isabel, Liz and Maria meet up in the woods after they left the camp site to go to the crash site Max and Isabel walk off and leave Liz and Maria on their own. Max walks past a tree but when Liz and Maria catch up Max is standing next to the same tree waiting for them.

Continuity: After Kyle finishes his story at the campfire, he skips from looking directly at the fire to looking over his shoulder at his father.

Continuity: While Alex is worrying over his date with Isabel at the Crashdown bar, he moves his hands to cover his face. Shots over his shoulder and on his face show different hands raised and lowered several times.

Continuity: As Liz and Maria conduct their monetary negotiation, at the end Maria raises her left hand and says, "You're good." Cut to a different angle and her right hand is raised.

Continuity: In the trailer park, when Michael sees River Dog he is outside his home and standing next to a table. As he walks toward River Dog, he passes a brightly colored car. In the shot as he reaches River Dog, he's approaching from a completely random location between trailers, nowhere near the entrance to his home or the car. No time has elapsed; River Dog is still in the same place relative to his surroundings.

Continuity: As River Dog approaches Michael in the trailer park, he puts his hand on the trunk of the car next to him. In the closeup immediately following, his arms are at his sides.

Continuity: Max telekinetically shoves the gun away grip first, but in the next shot it is lying differently.

Continuity: In the climactic scene where Hubble threatens Max with the gun, Hubble shifts back and forth between holding the gun with both hands and with one hand between front shots and reverse shots.

Continuity: Max tackles Hubble, who loses his grip on the gun as they drop to the ground, but the sound of the gun hitting the ground occurs slightly after the shot where it does so. Moreover, Hubble is still holding the gun tightly as Max tackles him, but it has somehow traveled several feet and completely stopped moving by the time they hit the ground less than a second later.

Continuity: Hubble describes pulling into the Peppers Cafe, then turns to Max and says accusingly, "You know that, don't you?" In the next shot, he's facing forward again.

Continuity: Throughout the scene where Max drives Hubble, the background keeps changing speeds depending on which actor the camera is facing. It's slowest behind Max, faster behind Hubble, and fastest in the shots that have neither. Also in some shots they are driving into the sunset and in others the sunset is behind them.

Continuity: At the beginning of his interview with Jonathan Frakes, Larry skips from looking over his right shoulder to looking over his left shoulder.

Continuity: When Max is drunk on Liz's balcony, he draws a heart with his and Liz's initials in it. Then he lights it with his hand. Later, while Maria's singing, they show a flashback of him lighting it with the opposite hand.

Continuity: In the closeup, the burning picture curls forward, but in the wider shot as Nasedo drops it into the flames, it is warped backward.

Continuity: When Maria goes back to the other side of the stage and Alex runs after her, she hunches her shoulders and changes her breathing between shots.

Continuity: During the interview at the Crashdown, Liz's fingers on the headphones change several times.

Continuity: On the rooftop outside Liz's bedroom, Max explains that the alcohol isn't wearing off. Liz sighs and looks down, then suddenly is looking back at Max.

Continuity: Near the end, when Michael is making his omelette, he switches from looking up to looking down between the shots on his right and left sides.

Continuity: Early in Amy and Valenti's conversation in his office, Amy's arms change continually from at her sides to crossed in front of her to gesturing.

Continuity: Twice during Maria and her mother's conversation about Valenti Maria turns away, but the next shot shows her looking at her mother again.

Continuity: When Michael, Alex, and Maria examine the camera in the kitchen, Maria turns to her right, the camera view shows her facing forward and swaying to her left, then cut back to her face and she's still facing to her right.

Continuity: At the end of the interrogation where Max agrees to reveal the second communicator, Pierce skips from standing a few feet in front of Max and facing him to standing directly next to him with his nose at Max's cheek.

Continuity: In the scene where Pierce uses the VR goggles on Max, Max lowers his head while Pierce is talking to him, but the next shot over Max's shoulder shows that he hasn't moved at all.

Continuity: After Max charges Pierce against the wall of the White Room, his hands change from gripping Pierce's jacket to merely set against his chest.

Audio problem: After Nasedo reveals himself in the morgue, there is a shot on Michael's face. There is no sound, but Nasedo can be seen in the foreground either talking animatedly or having an extremely localized seizure.

Continuity: As Michael, Isabel, and Tess are observing the hand scanner, the door and the agent using it move exactly the same way twice: once after he opens the door and again on a closeup on the scanner. Both times the agent steps to the left and the door begins to open.

Continuity: When Isabel is in hysterics after she enters Max's mind to help locate him, Michael is holding her head in his hands. His hands abruptly vanish when she finishes talking about Pierce.

Continuity: In the morgue, Michael flies back and hits the door twice.

Continuity: Pierce reaches for the bone saw with his left hand but picks it up with his right hand.

Continuity: When Valenti and Michael see Max and Liz running from the red jeep and the camera angle changes to inside Valenti's car, the car isn't moving - the ground in front can be seen to be stationary. In the next shot it shows Valenti's car just slowing down to stop.

Continuity: When Max and Liz climb out of the river at the beginning, they walk through one of two large drainage pipes next to each other. There is only one pipe on the other side.

Audio problem: At the end of the episode, Michael suddenly appears next to Max without any footsteps on the gravel like Max's and Liz's.

Revealing: Throughout the scene where Max interrogates Pierce, the projector changes slides at irregular intervals with no one touching it.

Continuity: The agent chasing Liz and Max at the bridge in the beginning abruptly switches from the left lane to the right.

Revealing: At the end of the episode, Courtney asks Maria to cover her for a bathroom break, as the Crashdown is full of customers. She goes straight into the Crashdown bathroom, which is right there by the entrance to the kitchen. After she gets through, she walks back out, but you can tell that she's walking out onto a soundstage - there's no other part of the Crashdown outside of the bathroom as she exits.

Continuity: When Courtney takes the knife off Michael that he is using to ice the cake, the close up shows her taking some cream off the knife with the finger that is on her left hand but when she puts it up to her mouth the cream and the knife has switched hands and also there is twice as much cream on the knife.

Continuity: When Alex storms into Michael's apartment to yell at him about Maria, Michael closes the door behind him. Then, only seconds later, the door is wide open just before Alex punches Michael.

Continuity: When Michael drops Courtney off at her house, she gets off the motorbike twice.

Continuity: When Tess pulled the plug out of Courtney's bath, the plug was out for quite a while but the water hardly went down.

Continuity: In the scene where Kyle and Tess are sitting on her bed and talking, she leans forward and hugs him by putting her arms around his neck. The shot then changes to his face and her arms are around the tops of his shoulders. When the shot changes back to her face again, her arms are around his neck again.
