The famous scene that caused controversy, where Ken grabs Deirdre by the neck after finding out about her and Mike, wasn't in the script, it was an improvisation. William Roache, who plays Ken, thought that Ken's reaction was a bit unrealistic. The director told him to do what he thought Ken's reaction would be, and therefore Ken grabbed Deirdre's throat and slammed her against a wall.
