Tru Calling (2003) - 61 mistakes in entire show

Plot hole: Throughout the series, auxiliary characters are always far too willing to give all kinds of information to Tru. Doctors and registrars constantly give her privileged information about patients and students. Tru is often able to retrieve information like addresses and phone numbers from people's service and utility companies, when normally you must verify your own information before they will even talk to you about your account. Of course there can't be an episode if Tru doesn't quickly find the person who asked for her help, even though she doesn't usually know much more than their name, but it's still a bit conspicuous.

Continuity: In Season 2 episode 4 (Last Good Day), Davis is pouring wine into a glass for quite a long time when the woman (can't remember her name) squeezes his leg. He drops the bottle but the glass has hardly any wine in it.

Plot hole: Gardez and Michelle Carey both disappear with no explanation. While Gardez's disappearance benefits the plot, in order to introduce Jack, there's never any mention of why he's gone, be it personal/medical leave, reassignment, etc. Ditto Michelle: she was so determined to learn the truth about Tru, so her disappearance doesn't make sense.

Character mistake: In "Perfect Storm", Harrison mentions Tru trying to find out who killed Luc. But she already knows: she was there when he was shot, and she even asked the perp by name to put the gun down.

Continuity: In "Enough", when Davis talks to Avery about death, his hand moves in four consecutive shots from his temple, to his upper lip, to his chin, to his arms folded in front of his chest.

Audio problem: When Lindsay learns that Tru has broken up with her secret boyfriend and met another guy the same morning, she jokingly whispers to her, "You little slut." The movement of her lips doesn't match at all.

Continuity: The first time Tru lives the day, she has breakfast with her brother first thing in the morning. Harrison goes to put sugar in his coffee and the lid falls off. The second time, they go out together much later (after Tru goes shopping with Lindsay), and Tru manages to grab the sugar lid just before it falls off. But people have been eating at the restaurant all day, so it's not at all likely that the lid would still have been loose. Plus, the same patrons are seen in the diner even though it should be a completely different crowd.

Plot hole: At the end of the episode, after Sarah has been tricked into revealing her plan and is rather obviously going to go to jail, Tru tells her that she "should have taken half," meaning that she should have settled for half of Andrew's money in a divorce instead of trying to get all of it by having him murdered. But Tru seems to be forgetting that Sarah has been trying to divorce Andrew all along, and it's Andrew who has stood in the way of that. Sarah would evidently have been perfectly happy with half, but Andrew prevented it from even being on the table for her, so Tru's comment doesn't make any sense.

Continuity: The second time the day happens, the man stands up in the restaurant to profess his love to his girlfriend almost immediately after the waiter drops his tray. There is only about ten seconds between the two events, but the first time it all happened, there was a gap of nearly thirty seconds.

Plot hole: When Marco brings Andrew's corpse to the morgue the first time the evening happens, he says that Andrew was died "in his ex-wife's house." However, during the second instance of the day, it is eventually revealed that Sarah is actually still married to Andrew, and they are just separated. Sarah may have lied to Harrison about that, but the police would have gotten accurate information. In fact, when Sarah calls the police (the second time), she refers to Andrew as "her husband."

Plot hole: Meredith is subjected to a random drug test at work. However, the drug test is announced late at night. Tru is already working her "graveyard shift" at the morgue, so we know the regular workday is over. Hardly anyone would be in the office. Therefore, it doesn't make sense for the company to be administering this drug test, said to be requisite for all employees, at that time.

Plot hole: How did John expect to get away with killing the other five men? He had made the plans for the party and booked the hotel room himself, so even if he disposed of the poisoned ice after the other guys died, his guilt would have been obvious, as the only survivor.

Plot hole: When Lindsay brings Tru breakfast in bed on the second version of the day, she is excited that Tru remembered her birthday, and she also mentions that nobody else did. But it's still very early in the morning. It's not at all reasonable to assume that anybody forgot her birthday just because they didn't call before 8am.

Plot hole: When Tru goes to the workplace of the "groom" to try to get him to cancel the bachelor party, he thinks that his "fiancee" Robin sent her to spoil his fun. But why would he think that? We found out later that Robin dumped him three months ago and there is no wedding at all. I'm sure Robin is pretty far from caring whether or not he has a bachelor party.

Factual error: Davis tells Tru that glucagon is a substitute for insulin in diabetic emergencies. In actuality, it does exactly the opposite of insulin, raising glucose levels in the blood while insulin lowers them.

Plot hole: Meredith ensures she gets a negative drug test by providing some else's urine sample. Wouldn't they know straight away? It is good medical practice (something that a law firm would most likely want upheld) to check the temperature of the sample (about 32-38C) to ensure the sample is fresh.

Plot hole: Tru thinks that the alcohol has been poisoned, and doesn't realise that it's really the ice until she sees that the stripper has been drinking tequila without ice all night and is fine. But she should have known that the alcohol wasn't poisoned as soon as she found out that one of the men wasn't drinking any alcohol but still died, which happened earlier.

Plot hole: John is slightly surprised to find that Tru is acting as bartender for the party, but doesn't dwell on it any further once she explains that she was supplied gratis to make up for the earlier "problems" with the room. But John should actually be extremely alarmed to find her there, given that he poisoned the ice and expects the other guests to drop dead. He certainly wouldn't want any witnesses to that.

Plot hole: Meredith submits to the drug test at her office. In the next scene, which takes place later the same evening, Harrison tells Tru that Meredith's test came back positive and she was immediately fired. But it takes at least 24 hours to get a result from a urine test at all. If the test is positive, the sample must be subjected to a more thorough examination. It usually takes at least 72 hours to get the results in that case. There's no way Meredith's positive results could have come back in less than six hours, even if a lab had been open late in the evening.

Plot hole: Luc arrives for his job interview at the Sheriff's while Tru is at the bachelor party. However, the clerk at the hotel told Tru that the party started at 7pm, so we know it's at least that late. It doesn't make much sense for Luc to have a job interview at that hour.

Plot hole: The invigilator at the MCAT tests is sloppy. You can't hand somebody paper, even if it's only a tissue, during the exam.

Factual error: Tru arrives "more than three hours late" for the MCAT and then begins the test. Firstly, it would be pointless for her to even bother going at that time, since she'd have already missed the entire Verbal Reasoning section and possibly the Physical Sciences as well (depending on how much more than three hours she was late). Secondly, that's really a moot point since late arrivals to MCAT testing centers are not permitted to take the test.

Plot hole: Around the middle of the episode, Paige's father tells Tru that all Paige really remembers about her molestation is "the moon and stars," which doesn't make sense to anybody. Towards the end of the episode, Tru looks across the street and sees that Paige's neighbor has a large stained-glass window of the moon and stars, and immediately realizes that the neighbor is the one who molested Paige. Paige is already there, because her near-death experience opened up the memory for her. But why didn't anybody figure this out before? The moon and stars window has been in plain sight to Paige and her father for twenty years, and evidently Paige has been ranting about "the moon and stars" for some time now.

Revealing: It was raining in Vancouver the day the outdoor scenes were filmed for this episode, so the actors were filmed under large tarps. When Tru and Paige walk together in the park, rain can occasionally be seen in the foreground and background, but not over the characters themselves. The ground is also wet everywhere throughout the episode.

Continuity: Near the end of the episode, Paige asks Tru something along the lines of "aren't you going to tell me your real name?", showing Tru hasn't told Paige her name yet. But then Paige says "goodbye Tru" at the end of the scene.

Plot hole: In this episode, Tru takes the MCATs. Every year, the MCATs are offered exactly twice, in April and in August. Autumn leaves in several scenes indicate that it is not currently either of those months.

Factual error: Both Tru and Davis refer to the petechial hemorrhaging (i.e. the bleeding behind Paige's eye-lids) as 'petechial imaging' at least twice in the episode which is very shabby given their experience working in the morgue

Continuity: The clock in the MCAT testing room reads 10:55 when the test starts without Tru, and 5:05 when the proctor tells Tru that she's more than three hours late. But by those clocks, she's actually more than six hours late.

Factual error: This episode misrepresents the scheduling and format of the MCAT. The exam is given in four sections, with an hour lunch break between the second and third. The morning session lasts three hours and fifteen minutes, the afternoon two hours and fifty minutes. If Tru was "more than three hours late" (and, presumably, less than four hours late) when she arrived after 2:30pm, then it presents two problems. Firstly, the session should be in the midst of its lunch break. Secondly, the test started much later in the day than the real MCAT does.

Plot hole: Why hasn't Tru met Luc? He came to the morgue very late the first time the night happened in the previous episode, after Marco scared Tru. Even though Tru seemed to stay at the bachelor party very late the second time the day played through, she had gotten into work by the time Marco tried to scare her again, so she should have still been there when Luc came in.

Plot hole: The first time the day happens, Paige is quickly identified as the victim of a drug overdose. However, we find out later that she actually died by violent strangulation. Yet the only sign of trauma on the corpse was minor hemorrhaging in her eye. There should have been obvious signs of the confrontation, starting with huge bruises on her neck.

Plot hole: There's too much bruising on Paige's arm in the original timeline, given that she only had one injection given to her by a med student (on the day of her death). She doesn't appear to have had any previous injections when Tru looks at her arm in the second timeline

Plot hole: Harrison and Lindsay hooking up was pretty much a given, based on the course that events took in the episode. But why were they doing it in Tru's apartment? Harrison and Lindsay each have their own apartment, so the only reason for them to be on Tru's couch is for entertainment value.

Revealing: About twenty minutes into the episode, Tru sits down next to Jen. Jen says, "I saw you in line in the cafeteria." Tru, with her hands at her sides, says, "Tru." Jen says, "Jen," and raises her hand to shake, at which point Tru reciprocates. But how did Jen know that Tru was introducing herself? After all, pretty much nobody else is named Tru, so in context it would have sounded like Tru was saying, "True," as in, "True; you did see me in the cafeteria."

Plot hole: Why does Tru think she's saved Adam's and Jen's lives when they don't die during the drag race? The race is happening around 5pm, 6 at the latest. Adam and Jen died very late at night the first time around.

Continuity: Tru tells Davis that she's "never had anyone help [her] before." But Harrison has helped her in almost the exact same way as Davis does, in most of the episodes so far.

Plot hole: The second time the day happens, Amy comes driving up right after the near-accident, because she "saw Derek's car." Since Tru's actions didn't change the timeline throughout the car chase, that means that Amy should have shown up at the same time during the original day as well. In that case, she would have witnessed Derek cause the crash that killed Adam and Jen, and there shouldn't have been a mystery.

Plot hole: At the end of the episode, Tru says that Jen and Amy gave her the roses for "helping them deal with their secret." But Tru didn't really do anything about their secret at all, aside from telling Derek about their lesbian affair. Adam found out on his own, and they all dealt with it themselves. Granted, Tru saved Jen's life, and that certainly would be a fine reason for them to give her flowers, but it wasn't the reason cited.

Continuity: When Tru and Harrison talk on the phone near the beginning of the day's second incarnation, it is pouring rain where Harrison is, and he's standing under an awning. It's not raining by Tru - or at least not enough to be noticed by the camera or to get her wet, which isn't a problem in and of itself, except that everybody around Tru is carrying umbrellas for some reason.

Plot hole: There doesn't seem to be enough information about Mark's stabbing for Davis' computer program to determine how tall the attacker was. The main thing that's missing is any information about the angle of the knife's penetration. Without that, there should be no way to obtain the killer's height.

Continuity: After Tru talks to her ex-boyfriend on the roof, she returns to her apartment and asks Luc where everybody went. But before the ex-boyfriend even showed up, everybody was leaving the party and Tru was saying goodbye to them as they left. Then she went to the roof and had her five minute chat with the ex. Why should she be even remotely surprised that everybody has made it out of the apartment by the time she gets back?

Plot hole: When Tru realizes that the yellow-handled knife Lindsay bought was the murder weapon, she gets rid of it. As a result, Lindsay needs to borrow a knife from Tru's neighbor so she can slice vegetables. The fact that Lindsay bought a knife for Tru, combined with the fact that Lindsay couldn't find one later, implies that Tru doesn't have a suitable knife of her own. But Tru served cut fruit to Harrison and his date several episodes ago, so she must already have a knife like that. In fact, pretty much everybody does. And there's no indication that Tru went around hiding all of her knives. In fact, the episode focused on that one, yellow-handled knife to an overly dramatic extent that bordered on inadvertant comedy.

Continuity: Why does Tru assume that Lindsay would be disappointed by Harrison's gift of a Pez dispenser? When they were shopping together, Lindsay specifically said that she loves Pez dispensers.

Plot hole: It seems strange that Tru doesn't at any point entertain the possibility that Luc could be the killer. After all, he was the last person left in her apartment before she went to sleep. And if she even thought that she could have done it herself, why does it not occur to her that her boyfriend killed the ex-boyfriend who was quasi-stalking her?

Plot hole: The first time the day happens, Tru tells Luc that Mark called her, and later she tells him that he wants to talk to her, and Luc is fine with that because he trusts her. The second time, knowing that Mark was killed, she decides that she should agree to meet him when he first calls. But she lies to Luc about what she's doing. Why? She knows that he wouldn't have a problem with what she's doing, but instead she tells a lie that conveniently drives the episode's romantic plot.

Plot hole: Tru's endeavors to convince Harrison of her abilities don't make much sense, for two reasons. Firstly, it's ridiculous that Harrison doesn't already believe her. She once slipped him the exact card he needed minutes later in his card game, and she convinced a man to wear a bulletproof vest on the day that Harrison's girlfriend was planning to frame him for shooting the man dead. Secondly, why would he suddenly become convinced just because Tru told him when it was going to start snowing? She once told him exactly when it was going to rain, and weather forecasters do the same thing all the time anyway.

Plot hole: How did lily pollen get on Nicole's dress? Justin's girlfriend never touched Nicole; we saw the confrontation the first day, and Nicole just shot her and then must have left very quickly because nobody saw her. Even if Justin's girlfriend were covered in the stuff, it couldn't have somehow jumped onto Nicole.

Plot hole: Justin is a police officer. As a result, his actions at the end of the day the first time it plays through make no sense at all. His girlfriend tell him that she has shot Nicole, and that the crime will be pinned on him because she used his gun. But he knows that there will be no gunshot residue on his hands, and there will be on hers. He knows that his whereabouts were accounted for at the time of the murder, because he was at the diner in full sight of any number of people. He knows that there is not a single shred of evidence aside from the gun, which has his girlfriend's fingerprints all over it anyway. If he were to simply arrest her now, there's no way she wouldn't be the one to go down, rightly, for the crime. Instead, he decides to tamper with the corpse and shoot two bystanders, in order to protect his innocence. It makes no sense at all.

Plot hole: Tru and Lindsay are making all their plans for the reunion on the day of the event, including whether or not they will attend and whether or not they will bring dates. But a high school reunion requires an RSVP in advance, just like a wedding or bar mitzvah. So they should have had to figure out their plans weeks earlier.

Plot hole: Why did Tru have the reunion invitation on her desk the morning of the event? It seems as if she had received it that day, since Davis asks if she's going and she says no and throws it away. That's something you'd do with the invitation upon receiving it and deciding not to go. But it doesn't make sense for the invitation to have gone out the day of the party.

Plot hole: Why does Lindsay know about what happened with Candace and Ronnie after graduation, while Tru doesn't? Firstly, Tru would have much more reason to have found out in the first place, since Candace was her best friend and Ronnie was her crush. Secondly, even if we accept that Lindsay found out before Tru did, how is it that Lindsay never mentioned it in five years?

Plot hole: At the end of the episode, Lindsay says that her note made one man a liar and another man gay. But how does she know that Craig lied? The first time, Craig said that he didn't get the note, and also demonstrated that he had no idea who Lindsay even was. The second time, Tru intercepted Craig and asked him to be nice to Lindsay. So he again told her that he didn't get the note, but also said that it's a shame he didn't get it, because she's really amazing, but it's too bad because now he's married. So he barely lied to Lindsay, and she would have no way to know about it. Tru didn't hear what Craig said, so she wouldn't know if he lied, either, and even if she did she wouldn't tell Lindsay, because the whole point was to make her feel better about the situation.

Continuity: The first time Tru goes to the reunion, she wears a colorfully decorated beige blouse with a knee-length black skirt. But when she jumps into the pool upon seeing Candace's body in it, she's suddenly wearing a white top and full-length pants, which happens to be the outfit she wears the second time she goes to the reunion.

Plot hole: In the episode "Closure," Harrison told Tru that he had lost interest in Lindsay, and was going to break things off with her. In this episode, they're still all coupley. Moreso, in fact, than earlier. We were never shown any developments in Harrison and Lindsay's relationship between the two episodes.

Plot hole: How did Candace get voted Reunion Queen the first time around? She acts like a total bitch to everybody we see her in scenes with, all we ever hear about is how many people hate her and probably wouldn't mind seeing her dead, and her comments when she accepts the award ("I can sort of remember some of you.") make it clear that she hasn't kept up with anyone.

Plot hole: There is never any explanation of how the MPs find Jake at Bridget's house. He had apparently been at her old house for hours (if he went there directly from the hospital) without the MPs finding him there, so they must not have been following him. Tru managed to find out her new address, and somehow the MPs found him there, even though they didn't know anything about Jake's relationship with Bridget.

Plot hole: When Tru first arrives at the military hospital, a security guard tells her where Jake's room is, and she proceeds in that direction. Then a nurse tells her that visiting hours aren't until noon, and it's only about 9:30am. But surely the security guard would know when visiting hours are, so why wouldn't he mention that to Tru when it's obvious that she intends to visit a patient?

Continuity: When Marco brings in Jake's body, he says that Jake was given a "clean bill of health" after the removal of a bullet from his leg. However, we later find out that a bullet fragment was subsequently found in his leg and that an embolism had formed.

Plot hole: Richard tells Tru that Carl periodically comes around threatening to exact revenge on him unless he pays him off. The audience eventually finds out that Richard hired Carl to kill his first wife, so it makes sense that Carl can demand money from Richard and not face any consequences. But why does the story make sense to Tru? The way Richard told it, Carl has nothing on him, so there's no reason for him to be paying him off. Tru should ask her father why he doesn't simply get a restraining order.

Continuity: Harrison and Melissa are in a poker game. In the scene where her flush beats his pair of fives, they each have the eight of spades in their hand.

Continuity: When Tru, Jack and Davis visit the car salesman she says that she worked at the 'county', but on their jackets it says 'City Morgue'.
