Trivia
It is a testament to the set designers (or whoever) at the BBC that the view of the car park from the lobby of the Travel Tavern looks so real when it is, in fact, a backdrop. See more...
A Room with an Alan
Visible crew/equipment: When the house salesman say he loves Alan's show, a camera can be seen on the right side of the screen.
Visible crew/equipment: When Alan speaks to Michael outside the lift at the start of the episode, the edge of a camera can be seen to Michael's right.
Visible crew/equipment: When Alan discovers the table extender, a faint shadow of a boom mic and cameraman are seen on the wall next to him.
Visible crew/equipment: When Alan asks where the petrol station is, a camera can be seen to the left of the house salesman.
Visible crew/equipment: When Alan and Tony Hayers arrive at the restaurant, a boom mic can be seen in the reflection of a picture on the wall as they walk past.
Visible crew/equipment: When Alan has just entered the living room in his house-to-be you can see the shadow of the cameraman move across screen on the floor and foreground.
Visible crew/equipment: At the end of the house section just before Alan makes an offer there's a shot of Lynn. To the left of the doorway behind her you can briefly see the shoulder of the second cameraman for the scene. Also visible are the camera cables through the door behind Lynn.
Continuity: When Alan is using his dictaphone, he lies down on the bed. In the next shot, his hand has moved onto his stomach.
Continuity: When Alan thrusts the cheese into Tony Hayers, you see a waiter come from the camera side and put a hand on him to pull him away. In the next shot of Alan, as he runs from the table, the waiter is now on the other side.
Continuity: At the start of the episode when Alan is driving, he has one hand on the wheel in one shot, then both in the next.
Alan Attraction
Continuity: When Michael tries to take Alan's big plate, Jill holds the menu in both hands. In the next shot she is holding it in just one.
Continuity: In the scene at Radio Norwich where Alan is speaking to the other DJ through the window, the Valentine's cards on the ledge keep changing position from shot to shot.
Continuity: At the start of the episode, Alan says the time and presses the button. In the next shot his arm is lowered.
Revealing: When Alan serenades Jill, near the end of the song, the guitar player removes his hand from his guitar briefly but the guitar part continues to play (it's being synthesised as part of the keyboard's rhythm track).
Continuity: When Alan and Jill are driving, the background shows they are driving in a straight line. In the next shot, the road behind them has a visible bend in it.
Factual error: Alan takes out a member of his staff on a Valentine's Day trip. When he is in the car with her, there are some outside shots of them driving along. The problem is, on or around the 14th of February, there would be no leaves on the trees.
Continuity: When Alan puts music on in the car, both him and Jill are looking down. In the next shot they are both looking forwards.
Continuity: When Alan buys the rose, he reaches into his pocket for money, then in the next shot the waiter hands the rose to Jill and Alan does not give him any money at all.
Watership Alan
