The title, "Ai Yori Aoshi" literally means "Bluer Than Indigo" in Japanese. The phrase came from an old Chinese proverb that say something like this: blue dye is made from indigo colored grass, yet the blue dye's color is much deeper than the color of its origin. This anime series is based on a comic first serialized in "Young Animal," a Japanese men's magazine. The anime series is considered less risque than what is found in the original comic.
