David Troughton, who plays King Peladon, is the son of the second Doctor Who, Patrick Troughton. Both Troughtons had previously appeared together in the Season 6 (1969) story 'The War Games'; Patrick Troughton as The Doctor, and David Troughton in the minor part of a solider called Private Moor. Additional trivia point: David Troughton shared a flat with future (sixth) Doctor Who Colin Baker at the time of the making of 'The Curse of Peladon' (January 1972). See more...

Factual error: One of the characters in this story is called "Lord Ravensworth". Yet the story is set in 1813.and Sir Henry Liddell was not enobled and raised to the Peerage to become Lord Ravensworth until 1821 (eight years later).

Plot hole: Just after the Doctor meets the Brigade Leader, he looks at the countdown and says in a very loud voice, "only 3 hours and 22 minutes". Several minutes later, when he leaves the office after stunning Benton, the countdown still reads 3 hours and 22 minutes. Did the countdown clock stop?

Factual error: The story is set in 1943. Jean and Phyllis shouldn't readily know who Jane Russell is – she didn't become famous until her debut film 'The Outlaw' was a box-office hit after the war, three years later. [Although 'The Outlaw' originally had a limited release in the US (but NOT the UK) in 1943, it was quickly withdrawn by the censors and not released widely until 1946]. True, they could have read about this film in a newspaper or magazine, but considering the strict wartime censorship then in force, it is unlikely...

Plot hole: The Bandrils not only know of the Time Lords but are capable of connecting to them, yet the Bandril are barely capable of space travel and can't produce their own food. So, the Bandrils are not very technologically advanced it seems, so why do they have ties with the High Council of the Time Lords? And how does either party benefit from such an association?

Plot hole: Azmael doesn't recognise the regenerated Doctor (In the shape of Colin Baker) whereas on most other occasions other Time Lords do recognize each other through telepathy. This is odd behaviour by Azmael, considering that Azmael and the Doctor HAVE actually met before, and possibly more than once. (Azmael last met the Doctor in the Doctor's fourth incarnation, and was the best teacher the Doctor ever had. On that occasion, Azmael got drunk.).

Revealing: In order to save money filming the lift-off of Crayford's rocket from Oseidon, the producers decided to use stock footage of a Saturn 5 blast-off. Unfortunately, that meant the words "UNITED STATES" in large red lettering are seen on the side of the rocket...which is a little bit of a giveaway, especially as the rocket is supposed to be a BRITISH space probe.

Visible crew/equipment: When Leela runs into Toos' quarters (and finds D84 leaning over Toos), we see a low-angle shot of her entering the room. Look at the brief shots of her before and after D84's line, "Please do not throw hands at me," and you'll see the front of the camera that took that low-angle shot jutting out into the doorway behind her, before it slowly retreats out of vision.
