Passions (1999) - 9 corrections

Comments made in brackets are corrections from other visitors. As such, any aggressive/abusive corrections (and I get quite a few) written as if they're comments I've made myself will be ignored. To submit your own corrections for mistakes, just click "make changes" when viewing mistakes, and click "correct entry". Some entries have "duplicated entry" after them - these are entries which were already listed on the main page, but were submitted again. I occasionally leave these online for a while, just in case they were moved in error, so don't worry about pointing them out to me.

Entry It doesn't seem reasonable for all of the main characters to be Catholic. We have seen that the ancestors of the Cranes and Bennett were Puritans - early Protestant immigrants to New England. There are very few African American Catholics in the United States, and the vast majority of those few live in Louisiana, so it's incalculably more likely that the Russells would be Methodists or Baptists. Of all the central families, only the Lopez-Fitzgeralds really make sense as Catholics. [That does not make it impossible that they could all be Catholic.] Corrected by Bowling255
Entry At the end of April and the beginning of May in 2004, Luis was decoding the CDs with the Crane secrets on them. For an extended period of time, Luis left the CDs completely unattended at Hank's house. Luis told several different people that the computer was decoding the CDs and didn't need anybody there to do it. Given that Alistair is virtually omniscient in Harmony, it's ridiculous that he didn't break into Hank's apartment and take the CDs. [Well as ridiculous as it may sound, Alistair Crane is still a mere human being, and always was, despite the certainty that his oft self-promoting omniscient self would scoff at that fact. As such, this falls into the realm of a character's decision, which makes it a character mistake, although Alistair would surely never admit to that.] Corrected by Rikki
Entry How can the actress who plays Catherine Crane be the mother of Julian & Sheridan when the actress portraying Catherine seems to be almost the same age as Julian? (Julian's age appears to be about 50ish and Catherine looks about the same). [This age discrepancy has been explained on the show. Since introducing Martin and Catherine, it has been explained that they had plastic surgery so that Alistair would not find them. Yes, it's hard to believe because Catherine does appear the same age as Julian, her son. But, it is Passions, so you have to suspend disbelief at times.] Corrected by Allyson
Entry On 7/30/04, a maid enters the dining room and addresses Ethan as "Mr. Crane." Ethan's last name is Winthrop, although he lives in the Crane mansion. [Ethan was raised as a Crane until his twenties. It'd not be unusual for the maid to slip up and accidentally call him Mr. Crane if she's worked for the Cranes for any length of time.]
Entry During the 5/27/05 episode, Sam calls his son Noah's college looking for him. Even though it is well after business hours, the Dean of the college answers the phone and then proceeds to check the college's records to see if Noah is a student. Since it is doubtful that Sam has the Dean's direct line, why would the Dean of a university answer the school's telephone? [My school has a dean on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the specific pupose of helping parents who need to find their children and are having trouble getting in touch with them. It's not unthinkable that Noah's school would too.]
Entry It is revealed during the 8/4/05 episode that the coffin that carried Katherine to safety is that of her sister, Rachel. Problem is the coffin looks far too new for one that should have been buried for approximately twenty years until the tsunami unearthed it. [Rachel's corpse was moved many times since her death, c. 1980. Martin's flashbacks showed that she was originally buried beneath the gazebo in nothing but a canvas bag. When Alistair had the gazebo razed in 2004, Rachel was moved into a stone sarcophagus in a crypt, where she remained for about one year. After Alistair showed Rachel's remains to Martin and Katherine in 2005, he had her moved yet again. So the coffin only dates to earlier this year.] Corrected by DavidK93
Entry On 8/22/05, Ivy introduced herself to Chris as "Ivy Crane." However, her name has been Ivy Winthrop for several years. [On the 8/23/05 episode, Ivy said that her last name is Crane, and there are several explanations. To try to deliberately impress the reporter (Chris) for whatever conniving reason, that she was once a Crane (married to Sheridan's brother Julian, no less), or it could have been an accidental slip of the tongue because she spent so many years as a Crane. But regardless of what the reason is, this is still just a character's mistake.] Corrected by Rikki
Entry On 9/12/05, during Eve's trial, her sister Liz stood up in the courtroom and began a diatribe in which she discussed subject matter relevant to the trial. Ethan then told Eve that this had harmed her chances. Why, then, didn't Ethan ask for a mistrial? A prolonged outburst like that is a classic example of something that would precipitate a mistrial. [It is also a classic example of a character's poor decision within the storyline of a TV show - which reflects even more shameful, erroneous decisions made by real lawyers in real courtrooms in the real world, therefore not a mistake.] Corrected by Rikki
Entry On 1/24/07, Gwen smashes her *diamond* ring with a hammer. [Gwen destroyed the metallic setting, and the gem came flying out. She didn't necessarily break the diamond itself.] Corrected by DavidK93
