And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon (2) - S8-E2
Corrected entry: Mel is speaking to Niles at their fake engagement party & she refers to Daphne as his Cockney tart, or something similar. Saying Cockney would imply Daphne was from the South of England, more specifically, London. We know this to be untrue as it has been mentioned in numerous other episodes that Daphne is in fact from Manchester, in the Northwest of England. Daphne also has an obvious, and typical, Northern English accent. So for Mel to call her Cockney was inaccurate. On the same theme, the character Simon, Daphne's brother, has an accent that is the complete opposite to Daphne's. He could be called a Cockney and has a strong, but fake, Southern twang. Logically, if the two of them grew up together & he still lives in Manchester (which is established in an episode) there would be no way that he would suddenly pick up a Cockney accent, even if he had lived in the South for a time. Your true accent always comes out when you go home, so to be true to life, Simon should have spoke with a Northern accent. You would think that the casting execs would have seen this pretty glaring error even though it is an American show. It's probably more obvious (and annoying) for British viewers but it's still a mistake none the less.
Corrected entry: The publisher phones Frasier and Niles at KACL and tells them that Reader's Digest is interested in serializing their book. Problem is, RD doesn't serialize books, it condenses them.
Correction: "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", by William L. Shirer, "Nineteen Weeks: America, Britain, and the Fateful Summer of 1940" by Norman Moss, "Terrorism in Fact and Propaganda" by Edward Herman, "Heartstrings and Tail-Tuggers" by Penny Porter, "Deliver Us From Evil" by Thomas Dooley and many many others were condensed and serialised in Readers' Digest.
Roz, a Loan - S6-E9
Corrected entry: Marty is comforting Eddie who he says has been taunted by a blue jay. This particular bird is not found in Seattle - it is found in much of North America but not west of the Rockies. Marty, who had spent all his live in Seattle, would not make this mistake - and if he had spotted a blue jay there it would have been highly unusual and remarked on.
Correction: Living in one place for your whole life doesn't necessarily mean that you're an expert on all of the bird species that live there. I've lived in the same area of the USA for almost all of my life, and I couldn't tell you whether any particular bird (except for obviously out-of-place ones, like penguins or flamingos) is uncommon.
Dark Side of the Moon - S7-E22
Corrected entry: Frasier lives in a high rise, apparently on the 19th floor (his is 1901). When Daphne throws the other tenant's laundry off the balcony, we hear the crash of cars below within a second or two (she had earlier explained to her therapist that she caused a car accident). In real life, of course, it would have taken longer for them to reach the ground.
Flour Child - S2-E4
Corrected entry: The Get Well Card that Frasier has to steal isn't musical at the start but is musical when he tries to return it to the hospital room.
Correction: Early on in the show, in Frasier's booth, Roz shows Frasier the card and it is musical. Frasier had to replace it but we must assume it is musical as well, as it is the same card.
Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz - S6-E10
Corrected entry: In the scene in the store, Roz is looking at a yellow sweater. After she leaves, Frasier asks a clerk to find him one in another size. The clerk comes back with a sweater in exactly the same colour, but a totally different style.
Correction: Character mistake - he brought the wrong sweater. Not a film mistake.
The Good Son - S1-E1
Corrected entry: Frasier is told that his show has only 30 seconds left and then he gets cut off to go to the hourly news. Yet when he stands up you can see the clock on the wall showing 7 minutes to the hour.
Correction: If Frasier's radio show finishes 7 minutes to the hour, it would be to allow 7 minutes of news, so the next show can start on the hour, just like other programs on the radio.
Corrected entry: Frasier and Niles get stuck on the Monorail and have to go back to the previous station because of an electrical failure up ahead. Why then, does a train zoom past them going in the direction they wanted to go?
Correction: Clearly, the train that passes is on a different rail to them, and it is their rail that has the electrical problem.
Corrected entry: When Daphne and Niles are at the bait shop right at the end, they both have 2 shadows - a clear indication of studio lighting.
Correction: No, it's a clear indication of two light sources inside the shop.
Corrected entry: When the American flag appears, Daphne has her arm around her mother's shoulder. In the next shot, when Niles says "How did you do that?", Daphne's hands are in her lap.
Correction: If you look close during the wide shot, Daphne has her arm around her mother while Frasier is talking, but then takes it and places it in her lap as the flag drops. Then we cut to the close-up with her hands in her lap - no continuity error there.
Corrected entry: In Frasier's apartment Niles is apparently typing on his laptop, which when viewed from behind is off. The screen is totally black.
Correction: Niles has one of those laptops with the old LCD screen, to see what he sees, you have to be pretty much at his angle.
Good Grief - S6-E1
Corrected entry: Frasier is getting everyone together to have a shot at the pinata and we can see a little girl in a bright pink dress running on the other side of the picnic table. As Frasier says "one for the children", she is suddenly standing right in front of him. There was no time for her to get there naturally.
Correction: From the time she was gone from the frame (7.55) to where she was in front of Frasier wasn't instantaneous. In fact, it was for more than a second. Given 1 second from a running start the girl would have been able to get to her position by running a length of about 6 - 8 feet, even without the time that was cut from editing. Frasier wasn't at the side of the picnic table when he started gathering everyone, then he was when he picked up the stick and said "Now, what we have here.".
Good Grief - S6-E1
Corrected entry: Frasier is at the picnic and is holding his rolled-up poster. He calls out "if I could have your attention please" and the next shot shows the poster has disappeared.
Correction: You can see for a fraction of a second he was moving his left hand towards the table while he was looking at it. Then, on the wide shot you can see the poster on the table.
Corrected entry: Early on in the show, Martin, Niles and Frasier are in the living room talking about Daphne and Donny - Frasier is addressing a long envelope. He gets up from the table with it in his left hand and walks towards his desk. He gestures with his empty right hand as he walks. He gets to his desk and suddenly the envelope is in his right hand, with no time to have switched it.
Correction: As one shot changes to another, one can see Frasier, at the edge of the shot, changing said envelope from his LEFT hand to his RIGHT hand.
The Good Son - S1-E1
Corrected entry: When Daphne is hired, Frasier assumes she will live out. Marty wants to her live in and says she could have the room across from his. Throughout the series, Daphne's Room is down a hall behind the kitchen and Marty and Frasier's rooms are next to each other in the same hall. Even in the first show, Niles takes Marty's suitcases down the hall behind the fireplace.
Correction: People can change rooms. They may have decided to change them later on.
Corrected entry: In the season 11 episode "Maris Returns" (episode 7), Frasier complains about his Stockholm Chair and says that the instruction booklet alone would account for the high Swedish suicide rate. Sweden has one of the lowest suicide rates in Europe.
Correction: No, it doesn't. With a suicide rate of 17.7 per 100,000 people, Sweden is about middle of the deck - certainly not 'one of the lowest'. See Worldwide Suicide Rates. Besides, Niles is making a joke based on a common urban myth, so it isn't even a character mistake.
Corrected entry: About 1/3 through the episode, they are in Roz's apartment. If you watch when people enter or leave the apartment, the door has a handle lockset. It also has a lock cylinder about 1 1/2 feet above it on both sides of the door. The problem is, the side of the door has no drill hole where the latch assembly should be: it's just solid wood. The lock isn't attached to anything that would enable it to work.
Correction: This is not a mistake. Often tenants install deadbolts and vacate without leaving a key, and it is quite common for the landlord to just remove the bolt assembly and patch the edge of the door. By leaving the lock in place, the landlord avoids having to replace the door, or repair a large hole through the door with 2 finished surfaces. If Roz had actually used a key in the lock, THAT would be a mistake.
The Good Son - S1-E1
Corrected entry: In the scene when Frasier and Martin are deciding where Daphne will stay, Martin mentions the study across the hall from his bedroom. Daphne eventually does stay in the study, which becomes her bedroom. However, in later episodes, Martin's bedroom is near Frasier's down the hall with the coat rack and Daphne's is near the piano. There is no room across from Martin's.
Correction: He could have just moved rooms. When they have this discussion, Frasier says that he can't give up his study, so there may be another room down the hall to his room that he "can't give up" but does in later seasons.
Corrected entry: Daphne's brother Simon, who turns up in several of the later seasons, has no trace of a Manchester accent. It sounds like a fake Cockney, London accent. Surely the casting people could have found someone from northern England to fill the role.
Correction: My family comes from Greater Manchester & my sister moved to Gloucestershire a number of years ago & now she (& my niece) speaks with a broad Gloucester accent.
Corrected entry: When Frasier first meets Claire, they have a flirtatious exchange speaking German. This contradicts the episode in Season 2 when Frasier discovers that Maris might be having an affair with her new Bavarian fencing instructor; in that episode, he says to the caller, 'I sorry, I don't speak German', and Marthe translates for him in the conversation with the instructor.
Correction: A) For Mel to call Daphne a cockney is a character mistake on Mel's part, and she never claimed to be an expert on British dialects, so it's not so hard to believe that she screwed up there. B) The part about Simon's dialect has already been submitted and corrected. He could have lived in the south for a long time, and then decided to keep that dialect when he moved back to Manchester. To say that "Your true accent always comes out when you go home" makes no sense, it depends on how he wanted to speak, and what he considers "home".
