Trivia
In one scene, Jen is talking to a stranger on the phone, who at one point says, "How's your grandfather?" This prompts Jen to check on her sick grandfather. This line was a reference made by co-creator, Kevin Williamson, to the original "When a Stranger Calls." Williamson used films like "When a Stranger Calls" and "Halloween" for the basis of his film "Scream," which happens to be the beginning premise of this episode. See more...
Dawson's Creek (1998) - 51 mistakes in season 6
starring James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes (add more)
Continuity: At the beginning of the episode, Joey is shown refunding her Paris ticket. The shot is from Season 5 Finale, and her hair is tucked back behind both ears and darker. The next shot of her, the hair is suddenly much lighter, wavier and hanging in front of her ears. Obviously this was shot in Season 6.
Plot hole: When Joey walks into her class and sits down, her cell phone rings and her Professor answers it. As he listens to Audrey on the other end, he says very quickly that he got the message. But when he relays the entire message to Joey after he hangs up, the message is much longer. There is no way he could have possibly gotten that long a message in the very short time he was talking to Audrey and said 'he got it'.
Continuity: At the very end, Dawson and Joey are kissing and they lay back on her bed. The snowglobe Dawson has just given her sits on the table next to her bed, and suddenly the snow inside it is drifting vertically down as if someone has just shaken it. But Joey and Dawson are busy, and neither one has touched it. Only a strong shaking could produce that type of snowfall, not just something bumping the table.
Factual error: When Joey is talking to the Professor, he mentions that her Birthday is the next day. Dawson also helps Joey celebrate her Birthday early at Midnight that night. Clearly this is some time in early Fall, when the Semester first starts at Worthington; probably August or September. But during the Season 5 Finale, Bessie hands Joey her Passport which has Joey's Birthday listed as May 13, 1983. Also, in previous years of the show, Joey's Birthday was never shown to be in the Fall. She didn't even start learning to drive until later in Season 3.
Continuity: During the beginning intro monologue, Jen is shown seated between her parents on a couch. The two actors portraying her parents are only shown from the back, but they appear to be different people than the original actors who portrayed them. The father, especially has different hair and wears glasses.
Revealing: When Jen and CJ are talking at Boston Bay University, and CJ mentions 'The Stand'; Jen suddenly gets up to leave thinking he is referring to religion. As she turns to walk away; you can see for a brief moment the real tattoo on the lower back of Michelle Williams, in the slight gap between her shirt and pants.
Visible crew/equipment: During Joey's surprise Birthday party in her dorm room, she and Dawson start arguing and everyone else suddenly leaves. Right after that, as Joey and Dawson are standing in the room arguing, you can see the shadow of another person on the wall just behind Joey, to the left. The shadow appears to be a boom operator, with a long-handled boom mic, and you can see him moving in and out of the shot by his shadow. Dawson and Joey aren't moving at this point, so neither of them could be causing the shadow. Also, there is equipment shown in shadow as well.
Factual error: Towards the end of the episode when Joey and Dawson are arguing about their relationship, Joey makes a statement that "Dawson bought the Champagne" referring to their romantic time on the movie set earlier that evening. However, when they were having that drink on the porch of 'Dawson's House' on the movie set; Dawson explained to Joey that the Champagne was from a free gift basket, one of many given to Directors before they start production on a new film. Therefore, Dawson never bought the Champagne, he simply stole it from the gift basket.
Continuity: When Joey accesses her email address book to send an email to Dawson, she inadvertently hits the address above his, sending her email to the entire Worthington campus. Dawson's email address in Joey's address book is DawsonLeery@worthington.edu. Dawson does not go to Worthington and would not have a campus email account.
Continuity: When Joey is talking to Eddie at the doorway of her dorm room, a short brunette with her hair parted on her right side appears walking around the corner of the hallway behind Eddie. Joey and Eddie continue talking, and a short time later the same brunette again walks by in the hallway behind Eddie. She should have already walked past him in the time allotted before we see her again.
Continuity: When Jack is talking to Professor Freeman outside the book signing, there is a close-up shot of the Professor with a noticable strand of hair hanging off his right forehead. The next shot of him shows the hair smoothed, and the strand back into position. He didn't touch the hair, and his arms were down by his side the entire time.
Plot hole: When Pacey first finds Emma in the bathroom cleaning the toilet, she makes a point of mentioning that 'she has band practice in an hour'. But right after they 'strike a deal' and Pacey agrees to her terms for the party, Emma suddenly announces that 'she is off to band practice'. Only a few minutes have passed, so it seems strange Emma would suddenly be going to a band practice that doesn't actually start for another hour.
Continuity: Near the end of the episode when Audrey goes into the dorm bathroom to empty the whiskey bottle, she accidently drops it on the bathroom floor. You can see the bottle smash, with the large label lying flat on the floor and the rest of the bottle (also with a smaller red label) sliding a little to the right. But later when Joey comes in and looks over at the broken bottle on the bathroom floor, it suddenly looks different. Most of the bottle is with the second red label part, and the first part with the larger label lying flat isn't anywhere near it.
Factual error: When Harley talks Joey into calling Eddy's parent's home in Worcester, Joey picks up the old dorm phone that has a handset cord attached. This doesn't make sense, because since Joey is calling long-distance to Worcester she would be more likely to use her cell phone which probably has a pre-paid plan. The old black phones are standard land lines, that come in the dorms; but the roommates both have cells and they also have a more modern wall phone.
Plot hole: The episode starts with Joey frantically trying to get to class, and printing out a paper she obviously has to turn in for that class. But then Eddie suddenly shows up at her door, and after hearing from Audrey's Mom, Joey suddenly decides to ditch school for a few days to drive across Country to LA. This doesn't sound like something the studious Joey would do, especially with her Scholarship in jeapordy from her failing grade on the midterm. Why would she take a few days off from school, in the middle of the week with classes and further jeopardize her academic standing at a very expensive University? It wasn't Spring Break yet either, that comes in a later episode. Even though Joey would have to fly back from LA, it would still take them at least 2 or 3 days to drive from Boston to LA. Would Joey really just take off like that and ditch all her academic responsibilities considering how serious she is about her education? Doesn't seem reasonable for her character.
Continuity: At the end, Pacey carries Joey upstairs and lays her on his bed because she is drunk. In one shot of Joey, her hands are up by her face but the right shoulder of her sweater is slipped off her shoulder, revealing the strap of her shirt underneath. The next shot of Joey, her left hand is still up and her right hand is down, but the right shoulder of her sweater is back up in place. It was too fast for her to fix the sweater herself, and her left hand hasn't moved.
Audio problem: At the end of the episode when Pacey and Joey are paying for their items, Pacey launches into a philosophical speech. The cashier has asked him whether 'they found everything they were looking for' and he answers no, but they found what they needed, which was even more important. He then elaborates, explaining that 'if you found everything you needed that day, what would be the point of doing it all over again the next day'. But Joshua Jackson apparently messed up his dialogue, because the point he was making was that they didn't find everything they were looking for, not what they needed. He was making the point that they did find everything they needed, so it would be contradictory to then explain that there was no point in finding everything you need. He meant to say 'if you found everything you wanted (versus needed), what would be the point of doing it all over again the next day'. Oops.
Plot hole: When Pacey and Joey get locked in the Big K-Mart, they run to the front doors and start banging on them and yelling at the guard. The guard, who is in the parking lot turns back towards his car and faces directly towards Joey and Pacey in the front windows. They aren't that far from the guard's car, and he was looking directly towards them. There is no way the guard would not have noticed two full-grown adults standing in the front glass doors pounding their hands on the glass and yelling at him.
Revealing: When Joey and Pacey are playing Battleship, there are a few close-ups showing their game screens. Although you can see several push-pins in each screen, signifying the areas of the game they have tried; there are no actual ships visible. It looks like they are playing the game with only the push-pins, and not any actual battleships.
