Trivia
Rimmer refers to people who speak Esperanto as "Esperantinos", but they are actually called "Esperantists". Not really a mistake because he's often shown to be an idiot, but worth knowing. See more...
Red Dwarf (1988) - 35 mistakes in "The End"
starring Chloë Annett, Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Hattie Hayridge, Norman Lovett, Robert Llewellyn (add more)
The End (season 1, episode 1)
Continuity: In George's memorial service, the extras are totally different in the shots from George's point of view to the shots from the back of the room. Look for the woman with brunette hair and orange overalls - she's there in the forward shots but missing in the reverses. The chairs, tables, props, costumes and character placements are all completely discontinuous.
Continuity: When Lister and Rimmer see Cat just after Holly explains how he evolved, Rimmer runs at Cat screaming before he passes through him and we hear a crash off screen to indicate Rimmer has just run in to something. He is a hologram and is not solid, so no sound should be heard. [The original version did not have this mistake. The sound effect was added for the now defunct Remastered series.]
Continuity: At the start of the 'Welcome Back George McIntyre' reception scene, Lister, Chen and Selby are throwing things at Rimmer, then Rimmer looks around. In the next shot, Lister and Chen are looking round to their left, Selby is stabbing between his fingers, Rimmer is now looking straight forwards and Petersen has appeared from nowhere.
Continuity: When George McIntye finishes his speech, he is standing. When the camera cuts back, he is sitting down.
Continuity: When Rimmer leaves for his exam, the table in the room only has an ashtray on it. Moments later, when Lister locks the door, a magazine, a can and a mug have appeared on the table.
Continuity: When Lister says his cigarette is a chicken, he looks at Rimmer. In the next shot he is looking at the cigarette again.
Continuity: Half way through the episode, the captain's office becomes covered by a wall.
Continuity: When Rimmer makes a palm print on the exam paper, the sheet moves from overlapping the second sheet to becoming separate on the desk. The pen also moves.
Continuity: When Lister asks for his door to lock, the position of his bedsheets changes between shot. If you look closely, the yellow line vanishes.
Revealing: When Lister passes his hand through Rimmer, you can see Lister's hand disappear when it is just above Rimmer's shoulder.
Continuity: After Rimmer makes his palm print on the exam paper, he stands up to salute. In the next shot, the hand print on the sheet has vanished and both pages are blank.
Continuity: When Petersen is trying to knock the coin from his head, the next shot shows Rimmer studying his arm. In the background, Petersen is seen with his right arm on the table, whereas in the wide shot it was behind his head.
Revealing: When Rimmer runs at the Cat and passes through him, the Cat fades as well.
Continuity: In the drive room when Lister says Rimmer is still a smeg head, one of his locks is over his right shoulder, then in the next shot, it has vanished.
Revealing: When Rimmer leans onto the table in the drive room, watch his tie. It should disappear with his arm but it remains visible.
Continuity: Just before Lister pours the milk for the Cat, there are two coats on the pipe by the bed. When the shot changes one of them has vanished.
Continuity: When Lister pours the milk for his cat, he looks at the cupboard where the cat is, yet in the next shot he is looking down at the floor.
Continuity: When Lister goes into stasis, Todd Hunter turns the wheel on the door to lock Lister in. In the next scene when Lister awakes from stasis, he just pushes the door open without turning the wheel to unlock it. Even if we are to assume that Holly would automatically open the door, the wheel should still turn to unlock the mechanism.
Visible crew/equipment: When Lister asks Todhunter if stasis will hurt, on the very far right of the screen you can see the reflection of what appears to be a camera being moved away from the shot.
