Question: Why do the tripods make a horn sound?

Answer: Adding a horrifying sound is also intimidating to the people they're attacking.

Answer: It is a signal to the other tripods. They coordinate their attack with the signals. For instance, a specific horn sound is heard when a tripod discovers a group of humans and other tripods come to assist.

But if it is the case, there would probably be a more efficient way to communicate. They can travel through the lightning but they can't use a walkie talkie.

We know virtually nothing about the aliens or their culture. Using the horns in this manner could be ceremonial. It's also a misconception that a society more advanced than ours must have mastered everything our society has mastered. Just because they built death machines millions of years ago doesn't necessarily mean they ever developed a walkie talkie. The Martians seem to be perplexed by the wheel. The scene with the wheel also occurs in the source novel, wherein the narrator theorizes Martians never invented the wheel, "skipping over" this crucial milestone in human advancement.

In addition, it can be used as a way to intimidate the populace of Earth, to try and make them panic into poor decisions.

LorgSkyegon

I mean, from a cinematic standpoint it definitely darkens the mood even more. A walke talkie wouldn't hold the wow factor as a loud sinister horn sound did.

Each tripod seemed fully capable of destroying anything (and enough) around it. Your idea is as good as any, but it seemed like the tripods just came out wherever they were buried and did their own thing without assistance. Besides, didn't a lot emerge from the water?

KeyZOid

Answer: The sound of the said to be *horn* could be a way of asking for assistance or giving off their location to other tripods.

Answer: I thought it happened when the tripods flushed waste. Kind of like grunting is to humans.

Answer: I "thought" (guessed) it was to blow out any dust/debris that may have accumulated while underground and/or "fire up" (energize) their weapons before shooting.

KeyZOid

Chosen answer: He gave them body cavity searches.

Question: Was the violence depicted in this film accurate to what happens in Juarez today?

Answer: The film was apparently offensive to at least the mayor of Juarez. According to him, the film is based somewhat on stereotypes of the region and the depiction of Juarez as a violent region controlled by drug cartels is outdated.

Question: At the very beginning, it says that a family got stranded in a desert. Is it referring to the Carter family from the first film?

Roman Curiel

Answer: Yes it is.

Question: To clarify, Black Widow and Hawkeye are just plain badasses? Not superheroes with powers, abilities, or enhancements like everyone else on the team?

Answer: Pretty much. Black Widow and Hawkeye do not possess physical super powers of their own, but they are well trained in combat and in the field. They can be likened to the DC hero Batman, who has no actual super powers, either, aside from being a multi-billionaire and relying on his intelligence and reflexes.

Casual Person

Question: Stupid, random question but I'll ask anyway. If there was a grate in the pipe that he escaped from, Andy would'be been screwed at that point huh?

Answer: To put it mildly. Red addresses it in his narration in the novella: "Here's a joke even funnier than the parole would have been: Andy breaks into the sewer line, crawls through five hundred yards of choking, shit-smelling darkness, and comes up against a heavy-gauge mesh screen at the end of it all. Ha, ha, very funny."

Answer: The final part of the prayer is "deliver us from evil, " so by making her say that part he is taunting her because evil is about to abduct her.

Phaneron

Chosen answer: This is not unusual in older films. Earlier costume designers were less attentive to historical accuracy and freely incorporated current fashion trends into period movies. It was just an accepted practice and movie audiences back then were often less discerning and/or unaware of inaccuracies. Today's costumers have greater access to historical information, do more research, and strive for authenticity.

We All Scream for Ice Cream - S3-E10

Question: What is the original song playing in the background as Victor enters? Some of the lyrics are "get you out of my head," "you're like a sexual high," "get out of my head".

Answer: This is according to Tunefind: The Cause by the band "27".

Alan Keddie

Question: Harkin didn't even eat the peanut butter. If so, why'd he get an attack?

Answer: People with a severe peanut allergy can be affected without consuming any. Airborne trace amounts can be inhaled and cause a reaction. In some cases, even touching peanuts is dangerous.

raywest

Answer: Severe reactions can be real, hence you see on some food packaging that the food was made in the same kitchen where they might have prepared nuts in their cooking.

Question: The twins are apparently born at the same time as Vader receiving his armor/suit - right after Vader's fight with Obi-wan. How is it that fitting armor happens to be in a medical center already?

Answer: They may have the technology to fabricate the armor and other prosthetics within the facility. There may also be a near-by armory that can quickly supply what was needed.

Question: Did Obi-Wan know Anakin and Padme are married? Since she thinks Obi-Wan could help them with Anakin seeing with the force that Padme would die giving birth after Anakin broke the Jedi code of getting married. Doesn't it seem that Obi-Wan would not help after what Anakin had done, unless he knew about it?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Chosen answer: Obi Wan didn't know they were married. He only realises Anakin is the father of Padme's child after noticing her emotional response when he asks if she knows where Anakin is. Even though Anakin has broken the Jedi code Padme still thinks Obi Wan might help them because he is their best friend. At worst Anakin would be expelled from the Jedi and the controversy would end Padme's political career but she makes it clear she doesn't care about any of that. Anakin, however does and shoots down the idea.

BaconIsMyBFF

The fact that they keep the relationship secret baffles me a bit. I mean, they live together in a city. They were obviously shown as close in AOTC.

It makes very little sense, to the point of being absurd. It is portrayed as if Obi-Wan and Anakin are best friends, but Obi-Wan never even asks where Anakin lives when he's not on duty.

BaconIsMyBFF

It's not like Obi-Wan and Anakin carpool or invite each other to dinner. They are Jedi partners, in service of the Republic and Jedi Order. Even if it were all happening on 1 planet Anakin and Padme could easily keep their marriage a secret, let alone from Jedi who travel from system to system and are extremely busy all the time.

Question: A tape recorded by John directed toward agent Perez states that her partner would soon take the life of an innocent man. How did John know that agent Strahm would kill Jeff? For all he knows, Strahm could have followed Rigg through the factory rather than Jeff. The "if you're good at anticipating the human mind, it leaves nothing to chance" excuse doesn't work here. The only reason Strahm followed Jeff was because he heard Jeff hit a ceiling light with a crowbar.

Answer: Realistically there is no way he could have known. The writers were just working backwards from the plot point on this one.

Phaneron

Question: Why did Hoffman shut down the security monitors before leaving Rigg to die? Also, how did he do it?

Answer: Because he didn't want Riggs to see who was coming, and even if he didn't shut down the monitors Riggs would still die in the end anyway. And he probably cut the wires from his hands behind it.

Question: Strapped to a chair. How does he manage to put the cotton in his ears?

Answer: His wrists and ankles are strapped to the arms and legs of the chair. He can sill move his upper body. He pulls the cotton from the chair out by his fingers, leans forward, and stuffs it in his ears.

Question: At the end, to whom does Lex Luthor refer when he tells Batman, "He is coming for us, and he is hungry"? Does this suggest that Luthor used Kryptonian technology to send a message into space, alerting someone or something? But who?

Charles Austin Miller

Chosen answer: Presumably it is Steppenwolf, who will be the main villain in "Justice League." It could also be Steppenwolf's nephew, Darkseid.

Phaneron

Question: I believe the network is called FreeFH on Cox network? But anyway, why is it that when they have a marathon From Philosopher's Stone to Deathly Hollow's part II, they always skip this film? Instead they go from Goblet of Fire and go straight to Half-Blood Prince.

Answer: I've noticed that too. Because the entire Harry Potter series takes up so much TV air time, the scheduling would be a factor so that the entire marathon can end at a reasonable hour. It may be that "Order of the Phoenix" receives the lowest viewing ratings, and therefore is skipped over in the interest of time.

Question: When Umbridge has Harry, his friends and the Slytherin students in her office, she asks Harry if he was going to warn Dumbledore. When he says he wasn't, she responds by slapping him in the face. In the background, Draco has a look of shock on his face. Considering the fact that he hates Harry, why would he react this way?

Answer: Draco is shocked because a teacher is never allowed to hit a student, not for any reason. He never expected Umbridge to behave in such a manner.

Answer: It was probably a mistake. Tom Felton may have flinched by accident.

Question: Is there ANY reason the smaller "lifeboat" ship (think they call it the Narcissus) Ripley evacuates into at the end, couldn't have been used as a lander to travel down to the planet in the beginning too (simply leave the Nostromo in orbit, with or without skeleton crew)? It seems, actually is, much less likely to be damaged in the initial landing, and, for that matter, much easier to take off afterwards (being much less massive). It also would have provided one more layer of quarantine containment for the people who stayed in the lander (who may or not be all the other four, in fact one would probably be just fine (Ripley manages the Narcissus just fine at the end), and it would have been a lot faster for the singleton to simply put on their own spacesuit if/when trouble is encountered, and in so doing, preserve their own personal uncontaminated space). The three explorers and the lander guard could simply see to trouble in Narcissus' sickbay-laboratory, without tainting the three back in the mothership, give Kane first response while taking him up to the main lab on the ship, while giving the orbit people warning to put on their suits/have some form of mobile quarantine ready for him.

dizzyd

Answer: It's not apparent whether the shuttle is capable of landing at all, much less launch itself back into space afterward even if it could.

TonyPH

Chosen answer: The small "lifeboat" ship was not equipped for the entire crew's long-term survival. As they are in deep space, there is no where close for them to land. They would just be adrift in space, as it takes years to travel from one destination to another. To survive long voyages, the crew needs to be in hibernation. The small ship would be a last resort in the hope that any survivors would be found before they died of starvation and/or lack of oxygen.

Question: In Xenoblade Chronicles, Shulk says that the Monado can't cut people. If this is true, how does the Monado damage the human fighters in Smash 4?

Answer: It is possible that it can make pain without cutting them.
