Trivia

Near the end of the film, Superman gives a press conference in front of a bluish mirror-glass building which is meant to be the Daily Planet skyscraper in Metropolis (which we all know is New York, sort of). The shot is framed so you can only see the bottom of the building - necessary as it is only about 3 floors high, and is in fact the railway station in Milton keynes, England, about 400 yards from where I work. Even the crowd have a vaguely British look about them - presumably passers-by were recruited and stood there in their own clothes (this would matter less now - Brits look more American than they did in the Eighties). Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Superman and the super villain are fighting on the moon, when Superman flies in and lands at the beginning of the fight, you can see the cables that are suspending him.

Mistake Continuity: Two firemen are seen away from their truck, but when the angle changes six firemen have appeared seemingly from nowhere.

Mistake Factual error: The Sun Man takes the publisher of the newspaper out into space. Humans cannot breathe in outer space. Even if they could, wouldn't she burn up in re-entry? It can't be Superman's powers are transferred to someone he's touching, otherwise in the second film he could never have crushed General Zod's hand...

Mistake Continuity: When Superman is walking with the kid towards the UN, they pass by a fire hydrant. In the immediate wide angle of the place the hydrant is gone, but reappears in the following shot a couple meters ahead of Superman.

Mistake Continuity: Nuclear Man dents the floor with his footsteps, but in a wider angle the floor is intact.

Mistake Continuity: The shape and size of the volcano is totally different between the moment when Nuclear Man enters it, to when it erupts.

Mistake Continuity: When Nuclear Man arrives on Earth, he enters a shady place which makes him loose his power and cools his body, producing some frozen-like smoke. The next two times that he enters a dark place (inside the elevator and in space) he doesn't produce the smoke. FX budget problems here?

Mistake Continuity: When the truck is carrying the missile, the officers parading in front of it pass by the same place twice.

Mistake Continuity: When Superman lands Lex on the quarry, the standing position of the prisoner behind differs between shots.

Mistake Continuity: After Superman straightens the US flag, a brief shot shows he is on a plain ground, but when he is knocked down by Nuclear Man, a big mount appears in front of him.

Mistake Revealing: Watch the moon fight between the two supermen. In one scene, Superman charges nuclearman and you can see the backdrops flutter if your monitor brightness is high.

Mistake Revealing: When NuclearMan goes to destroy the Great Wall of China, there is a brief glimpse of him wearing support wires.

Mistake Continuity: When ever there is a shot of Superman flying taken from directly in front of him, on a bluescreen (Watch out for the oh-so-visible black outline and loss of colour), it's always the exact same shot. Obviously the producers could only get one day with the blue screen, then.

Mistake Continuity: When Lacy is in outer space grabbed by Nuclear Man, she slides down dramatically and grabs on his wrist. Half a second later, the sliding effect is gone and she is now floating relaxed, grabbing the upper part of his arm.

Mistake Continuity: A couple walks behind the hot dog stand in the same direction twice in less than half a second.

Mistake Continuity: Before Superman enters the UN hall, the amount of people by the staircase changes between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Superman falls straight and unconscious off the Statue of Liberty he's facing a 9 o'clock direction. In the next angle he is facing 5, then lands facing 7.

Mistake Continuity: While the people in the village are watching the lava flow down the streets, the first shot shows them to the right of a wooden door. A frame later they are positioned several feet further, close to a big green plant.

Mistake Continuity: During the volcano eruption scene, an old man with a black hat on the right appears and disappears depending if the shot is a close-up or a wide shot. This even happens when the shot changes follow one another immediately.

Mistake Revealing: In this scene, all the SWAT cops have the same type of rifle, except for the guy that gets his melted by Nuclear Man, which is a thick rubbery prop.
