Revealing: In the first scene, when Nicholson is driving to the Overlook, the shadow of a helicopter can be seen at the bottom right. This is only visible in the un-matted TV/video print.

Continuity: At the beginning when Danny is talking to his Mom and eating a sandwich, the sandwich gets about 5 bites smaller in a split second.

Continuity: When Jack is talking to Lloyd the bartender, his Jack Daniels goes from being two thirds full to nearly empty two or three times without him having drunk any.

Deliberate "mistake": One more helicopter mistake. Look at the final shot of the opening sequence (before "the Interview" title shot). At the top of the frame, you will see the helicopter blades twirling.

Continuity: As Wendy talks to the forest ranger look closely at the US Forest Service emblem above his head. It goes up about six inches on the wall throughout the scene.

Continuity: When Danny is playing alone in the corridor, with his toy cars and trucks, in the overhead shot, the little vehicles are set up on the orange and brown pattern, as the ball roles to him down the center brown path in the carpet's sextagon pattern. However, in Danny's close-up, when the ball is in front of him, all the little toy vehicles are now set up (still the same way) on the opposite side of the carpet's distinct pattern, as he also faces the opposite way. This mistake has absolutely nothing to do with the ghosts of The Outlook moving the ball.

Other: Wendy has a baseball bat in her hand and Jack is trying to get the baseball bat. When Wendy hits him over the head, the baseball bat bends.

Continuity: In the initial overhead shot of the house the hedge maze is not there though later on it is shown quite close to the house.

Continuity: Wendy comforts Jack after he has had his nightmare. His hairstyle keeps differing depending on the angle focusing on him.

Visible crew/equipment: Danny goes up to the apartment to get his fire engine and you can see the shadow of the cameraman on the front of his sweater.

Continuity: The level of the snow outside the hedge maze is at least five feet deep as the lamp posts stick up halfway through it, and all the large stones are totally covered. As soon as Danny starts running inside the hedge maze the snow is at ground level as you can see by the lights and benches that he passes along the way.

Continuity: In the beginning when Wendy is talking to the doctor, Wendy lights a cigarette, seconds later the paper has burned almost to the filter.

Continuity: When Wendy asks Mr. Ullman "when was the Overlook built?", the position of the characters has jumped almost 50 feet closer to the garage.

Visible crew/equipment: The shadow of a crew member is visible down the hall, to the right of the door, just above Wendy's knife, as she gets to the top of the stairs.

Visible crew/equipment: When Jack walks into Mr. Ullman's office if you look at the center window you can see the reflection of the crew behind him moving around in it.

Continuity: At the end of the movie there is the chase scene through the hedge maze in the dead of winter in Colorado. While Jack Nicholson runs after his son in a winter setting you cannot see their breath in what would be the cold night air.

Continuity: Danny runs into the kitchen and hides in a sliding metal cabinet after Dick Halloran pulls up in the Sno-Cat, and the clock on the wall reads 5:15. Only four minutes of uninterrupted movie time elapse yet when we see the clock again as Jack chases Danny it now reads 5:25.

Continuity: The phone doesn't work when Wendy tries to use it to call the forest rangers, and as she walks out of the office, the shadow of the cameraman can be seen on the orange/brown support column at the front desk.

Continuity: We've seen the front and the back of the Overlook Hotel from the outside several times, and there are no windows anywhere near the size of the ones we see as they walk past the grand piano in the Colorado Lounge during Mr. Ullman's tour.

Continuity: Mr. Ullman tells Jack that, “This site was chosen for its scenic beauty” and an ash tray appears between shots on the left of his desk in front of the pen holder.
